      Just watched this and omg, that was so powerful.. I never thought when I began watching it I would finish up in floods of tears... I reflected back to when this could have easily been me... I can't recall how old I was but I was driving then and following a long distance relationship on MSN with a guy called 'Sam', who'd I'd been chatting to for months... I drive down to Hastings to visit him.... He had a girlfriend (which I didn't know) and thankfully nothing happened but it could have so easily been different... He blocked me and we never spoke again... It was so weird, it was like I never existed to him.... I'm now a mother of a daughter and I do hope this episode gets shown in primary schools (year 6) as part of online safety.... We need to protect our children and safeguard them from the evident dangers of chat rooms / snap chat and other social media. I'm going to raise this with the safeguarding lead at the school and hopefully get this on the curriculum

      @RaniaIsAwesome Yes, she was above the age of consent In real life.
      In the show though I don't think "gary" could actually technically be charged with online grooming because she told him she was 16 and 16 is the age of consent.
      It only became an offence when she was in his home and she told him she was 14 and he still persisted and held her against her will.

      Children shouldn't have devices. They are not only at risk of paedophiles getting access to them, but it's ruining them and dumbing them down. It's affecting their ability to communicate, it's affecting their development, their social skills, (emotional) intelligence, their ability to problem solve, their ability to recognise risks. It is affecting them in evety way because parents don't interact with them and don't let them play outside with other children and just give them electonic devices.

    • @UltimatelyEverything
      @UltimatelyEverything 6 месяцев назад

      @@BM-qw8hy The problem is the world isn't safe enough for kids to roam the streets and just be kids anymore and it's just sad. The government and law need to do more to keep the younger generation safe online and offline.

    • @BM-qw8hy
      @BM-qw8hy 6 месяцев назад

      @@UltimatelyEverything This is not true. Children are in more danger from strangers by staying inside their homes playing on X Box and using their mobile phones than they are playing outside. Paedophiles have more access to them via mobile phones and X Box. My gf who is a teacher has come across a lot more of this. She's been teaching primary school children for over 20 years and has witnessed how bad it's got since parents started buying their children mobile phones. She found 10 year olds watching porn from a paedo who sent them a link via X Box and told them to click on it. This is just one incident of many more she has talked about. Kids are safer playing outside than being inside on their mobile phones and X Box. Parental control doesn't stop paedophiles getting access to children. They can still get access to children. On top of that it is affecting their development in every way possible. It's toxic.
      Children should be outside playing with other children and going on adventures. It develops their problem solving abilities with the activities they get involved with, risk taking learns them how to recognise risks and learning from mistakes and learning how to sense danger. It develops their ability to communicate, it develops skills in building things and fixing things when playing out in nature making building dens in trees, making bow and arrows from branches etc. It develops their practical skills. They learn the ability to work things out in different situations.
      These skills are important for their development. I dread to think what type of adults they are going to become. It is very worrying as these are the ones that are going to be looking afer us when we get older. Life is about taking risks. We take risks everyday of our lives as soon as we walk out of the front door into the outside world. If we don't take risks we don't have a life. They are going to grow up fearing the outside world and too scared to take risks. They won't learn from mistakes. They won't have the ability to communicate properly, Won't understand emotions. They will be underdeveloped in so many ways. They will be in more danger of the outsude world as a result of this. You setting them up for disaster. The impact it will have on them by keeping them inside with their heads buried in their devices will have devastating effects on them and society. We are seeing the results now in schools. Parents are so ignorant to it and too dumbed down themselves to even recognise it. It's disturbing to say the least.

      Probably because this storyline is more scary than a some deranged killer running around with a chainsaw or whatever. With horror films you more or less know who the bad guy is, but with something like this, the bad guy looks like a nice normal guy and he can use his charms to fool,people. Also this is something that can actually happen in real life a groomer is scarier than a killer wielding a machete or a ghost haunting your house

    That line ‘I don’t want to hurt his feelings’ I’m glad they put that in I listen to a lot of real life stories of all types, but in the dating stories even when they have been catfished or they change the meeting place to somewhere more remote it’s surprising how many people stay because they don’t want to let the person down or hurt their feelings even when there have been huge red flags 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
    and they completely ignore their gut instincts 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
    That’s an important lesson that should be taught to everyone as children you can still be kind and compassionate but red flags is something they need to learn about and to leave immediately in any situation if you feel something is off and forget about whether it is hurting someone else’s feelings as it could save your life! or at the very least stop you from getting hurt

    I've been groomed like this numerous times as a young girl... I was unsure why I was being treated the way I was by dirty old men, even my 'friends' creepy dad's used to groom me mainly with flirting, illegal substances and alcohol. I didn't know why I was being treated the way I was and knowing what they were doing but felt helpless to understand why and read the signs enough to get myself out of these situations, so I used to just give them what I felt they were looking for because I felt helpless to know what else to do... I then later in life realised was/am autistic...

      I was the victim of it by my own father and a baby sitter. Luckily, the baby sitter didnt progress more than pining me to the floor and kissing me (i was 8) He was about 15/16. I never told my mum as she thought the world of him and i didnt know it wasnt normal at that age. I told her years later and she was horrified. "WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME!?" I didnt have the words. Needless to say she was distraught when she found out my father had been doing it for a few years. The baby sitter was doing it at the same time as my dad. I told a family friend what my dad was doing and she told my mum. She had to. I starting realising it wasnt normal when id stay at a friend's house and their dads werent doing it to them. My mum always said to me that abusers usually always know when you've been a victim and they home in on it.

    • @visionist7
      @visionist7 7 месяцев назад +1

      I'm on the spectrum myself. The most important thing you must do is absolutely never blame yourself. You were taken advantage of by bad people who should have sought help themselves or been locked away for what they did. You only did what you felt you had to do to survive and whilst that can never make up for what you've been through, now you're grown up and can help protect others who are in the same situation you were.
      I know it's not much but you're a survivor.

    The camera work at 2.35 is effectively creepy. He partially disappears from view, whilst she bends over, so you can only imagine the perverted way he was probably looking her up and down from behind. The symbolism of her taking her shoes off is also disturbing, as it seems to emphasise her vulnerability, perhaps even hinting at her later inability to run away from danger. It also reduces her height, making her even more vulnerable and young looking.
