Thanks for the upload , This was the first proper teenage pregnancy storyline any soap did and the actors involved in a fantastic job of showing the real life reactions of most parents . I cant imagine being a dad at 23 let alone 13 so it makes you wonder how other people cope.

I like how supportive Gail and Martin were while Sarah was pregnant. I mean I know that they were shouting at her sometimes but there are parents out their who did a lot worse than that to their kids

I would never shout at or beat my child for getting pregnant. I'd blame myself for not teaching her properly and I'd point more responsibility towards the father than the mother who has to deal with all of it.

They did an excellent job with the writing of this, very realistic.
Gail is a good mother but Sarah really needed proper comfort. Not Gail making it sound worse than it actually was. Bethany was one of the best things that happened to her.
Rather than screaming at her, Gail should have encouraged Sarah to have Bethany and reassured her she would have lots of help and support

Well at least Martin stuck up for Sarah. If she really wanted to give the baby up for adoption then it is her choice and nobody else's. But I'm glad the way things turned out for Sarah and Bethany. She's such a good mum to her kids. I hate how controlling and fussy Gail was with her kids. But now she's a lovely and nice lady.

Teenage pregnancy is not that much of a taboo topic nowadays, but 20 years ago this was downright scandalous.
There is always a first time for everything.
I mean a 13 year old kid pregnant is still pretty horrifying

13 is always going to be taboo. If she was 16 or 17 that's fairly common.
As someone who was slut-shamed by my mother as a preteen (by my mother!) when I was being sexually harassed at school, I find it so disturbing how it was so normalised to call a teenage girl a tart in 2000s soaps, and the way Audrey talks so proudly about how her father physically abused her and implying Sarah's parents should physically abuse her is also very disturbing to me.

Am positive they've missed part out unless I've missed it in rewatch. Martin was concerned suspicion would fall onto him following social care visit. He told Gail words to effect of "teenage girl, stepfather - it's a textbook case"

Gail was a good mum
Gail is being more easy-going than a lot of mothers would be. For a start if my sister LIz became pregnant at thirteen or fourteen my mum would either be in hysterics or have a stroke or even turn to drink. I know for sure she would have hit her across the face about four times.

The doctor saying that it was too late to have a termination, if Sarah was as far as five months into pregnancy, is nonsense! UK law allows it until 24 weeks gestation, and five months is less than that. Such marvellous research carried out before the script was approved!
I suspect maybe the writers forgot the law was changed in the 90’s 😂

The law is 23 weeks and 6 days not 24 weeks. Doctor said she looks 5 months which can be anything from 19 weeks to 24 weeks. Referral plus getting the procedure take a couple weeks at least so by the time that happens she would have been past the legal dates.

She is actually. Watching this as an adult when I watched it when it was first aired is surreal. I'm the same age as Sarah Louise was in 2001. Now I'm a mum of many and one is an adult but the rest aren't. Gail has been fantastic so far.

7:02 How did the doctor know that Sarah was pregnant? She didn't take a urine test or a pregnancy test or take any blood. And there was no suggestion in this scene that the doctor did a gynaecological examination. Could she tell just by touching her stomach? And how did she know that Sarah was 5 months pregnant?
The feeling of your abdomen changes when you’re pregnant, especially if you’re 5 months. They can also feel the baby

If Sarah was 5 months along, the doctor would have probably felt fetal movements, felt the baby in utero, or used a Doppler to listen to heartbeat. Both Doppler and fetal movements are called positive signs of pregnancy. If you had either of them, you wouldn’t necessarily need a blood HcG to confirm. I would still get one, but you’d be pretty much 99% sure.
Also after a while in pregnancy, the tests are negative even if you are in fact pregnant. Her abdominal region will feel different cause it's pregnant. You could also do a kind of bimanual examination (one hand on abdomen, other hand in vagina) to feel the whole womb but it would probably only be useful early on. Ultrasound is the best test for advanced pregnancy.
You can tell by feeling the abdomen .

Lady Gaga and Celine Dion were so disgusted with what he did, they said any music that they did with him they want removed from every Radio List etc because they felt awful knowing they were collaborating with a pervert.

Ther reaction of Candice to Sarah is understandable to a point. Pressure on Sarah to name the father is not acceptable and anyone who does that to their best friend is not worthy of being called a best friend
Social services can provide lots of help. A child of 13 who finds that they are pregnant are likely to be pressured to go along parents wishes/choices.
social services can present options like adoption and provide financial help.
Knowing father can also rule out sexual abuse or statutory rape.
A child of that age will be more like to talk to non family member.

The baby would be a Canadian citizen as well as a British one because Canada is a nation with jus soli laws in which anyone born in Canada is automatically a citizen even if the parents are not Canadians. American is the same kind of country so they could have had the baby in the USA. However, the UK does not have jus soli nationality laws only jus sanguis.
Some of my kids were born in Ireland and some in Scotland. I'm Irish and my husbands Scottish so they can live anywhere in the uk anyway as they're UK citizens but also they're Irish citizens too.
