Sad news today as we hear the great Johnny Briggs has sadly passed away. Johnny the Iconic, legendary Michael Vernon Baldwin who was involved in the greatest Corrie story of all, the Mike, Ken, Deirdre love triangle which thanks to these videos us die hard fans are able to watch over and over again. Johnny Briggs RIP.
@@masterknife8423 Are you joking? Mike Baldwin was a wonderful character! He hit the ground running in 1976, and thanks to the talent of actor Johnny Briggs, arrived as a fully-formed, complex and totally believable character. In Johnny Briggs' hands, Mike Baldwin remained authentic throughout his 30 years on the show. Producer Bill Podmore also arrived as new producer that year to shake up the soap, and he immediately decided it needed a big Southern character to shake up the cobbled streets, inject some dynamism, and to represent all the Southern viewers at home. He saw Johnny Briggs on rival teatime soap 'Crossroads' and immediately recognised he fit the bill perfectly for the role of the new, suave London factory boss. Johnny Briggs could have made Mike a one-dimensional caricature - the hard-nosed, Cockney capitalist businessman. But in his first year alone he brought light and shade to Mike and made him real. To maintain that standard of performance and characterisation over three decades is a remarkable achievement for an actor - all credit to the late, great Johnny Briggs. I had to smile when I read that there may not have been quite so much acting required in his angry scenes with Bill Roache, who played Mike's arch enemy Ken Barlow - apparently the two men didn't get on in real life!
Mike Baldwin was a marvellous character, very important to the storylines. Wouldn’t have been the same without him. I’m sure all of us die hard corrie fans would agree.
The Ken, Deirdre, Mike love triangle. One of the best storylines from the past 60 yrs of Corrie. I remember these very well, I was 16 at the time and deep in to my Corrie. Another generation ago now, the characters may have gone but the memories go on forever. Thanks for the posting.

The brief affair between Suzie Birchl and Brian was just several months after in the Summer of that year I think ' after her estranged husband tracks her down and beats her up when she refuses to go back to London with him ' her fling with Brian was the final straw for Elsie who threw her out on the spot.
The Deirdre and Mike story added a little bit of spice to Coronation Street . And very believable for a young, very attractive, woman, married to quite a boring man, and Mike Baldwin was the suave suitor. And I actually think he had real feelings for Deirdre. The actress that played the part looked particularly good around this time.
The scene in the Rover's, when Annie lays down the law to Bet, Betty, and Fred . . . this is the third time I've seen it, and it gets better every time.
There's more chance of Emily and Mavis spending the afternoon supping pints, and chucking arrows, than Len thumping Brian. Or anybody else, for that matter.
