Mixed the rendang into the rice, and it will reduced the spiciness. anyway you have to treat the rice as the main and others as the side dish.. take a little sambal, mixed it with the sambal, chicken and rice and you won't taste the shrimp paste or anchovies at all.....
That totally makes sense! I think we went for the main flavours a little too fast and should have mixed everything and the rice to calm it down a bit. None the less it was incredible!
That's true, that's how you should eat it. My suggestion, ask locals first on how to dig-in our local foods, this is to ensure you get the true tasting experience of the foods.
Malaysia's food flavor represents the country. It's multi-layered just like its people. We're not mono layer flavored like fish sauce or soya sauce in every single thing. The country's broad repertoire of extreme flavors from the humble Nasi Lemak to world class European cuisine is an example of our historical amalgamation of ingredients. To enjoy Malaysia fully depends on how big your appetite is. We all have big ones here.

Wanjo's sambal is sweet therefore not spicy. I admit that village park is too spicy for me too. Another place is tanglin. This is a small malay stall. A bit noisy there as they like to blast music. Spicy too. Wanjo does not give peanuts. All nasi lemak have anchovies for calcium intake.

Batu = Stone in the Malaysian & Indonesian language , Batu Caves are made up of limestone & dated maybe 400 million years old! The Giant Golden Statue at the entrance is to honour Dewa Murugan , the brother of Dewa Ganesha ( the Elephant faced Dewa ) & both are the sons of Maha Dewa Shiva & Maha Dewi Parvati! 🙏
In my place in #seremban , Negeri Sembilan is only RM 1 for one Nasi Lemak without Chicken. You can go via KTM Commuter Batu Caves-Tampin line to Seremban or Senawang KTM Station
Nasi Lemak is basically our National dish. It evokes passionate debate, who has the best sambal , who has the best condiments, the best sides etc. there’s no wrong way to eat it. I prefer to mix everything up but you could eat it any way you like. Village park is extremely popular and I would say their standout is the fried chicken. The main flavour you dislike in sambal is probably the shrimp paste. I suppose if you didn’t grow up on it it’s an acquired taste akin to Italians and their anchovies. But it’s essential in many local dishes because of the umami it brings
Yessss we absolutely LOVE this dish. It was probably the best fried chicken we have ever had! & yes it’s the sambal.. no matter how hard we just don’t enjoy shrimp paste, so sambal is not for us.
Greetings from Ontario, Canada! That is a lot of Nasi Lemak, that feeds me like 3 meals! I am a small eater..hahahaha. ❤❤❤ Cucumber supposed to clean your pallets from sambal. Love Nasi Lemak! Don’t try Ramly Burger, it’s grossly gross! Just saturated with sweet sauce!
Hello all the way to Ontario! The nasi lemak was amazing. But yes we each ate a full plate and it was very filling. Spoiler alert we tried a Ramly burger and actually LOVED IT 🤭 but we love the greesy cheesy sweet saucy foods hehe.

It isn't that I haven't eaten Malaysian food because I have. The popular restaurant in Chinatown in NY is named Penang and their Beef Rendang is great. The satay is also good except that they probably are dishes from Penang and not KL. Also, Malaysian dishes are often heavily flavored and spiced that one tends to be careful when trying new dishes. Like Thai food, one tends to stick to more familiar and milder dishes. If Malaysian food does not elicit such excitement it is because it can be overpowering. My take on it... Ask someone totally sold on strong spices and you'll get a better response.
We have been enjoying malaysia food so much! especially rendang. The spices don’t bother us at all except when they go down the wrong way lol! But honesty we are big foodies so we tend to like all foods 😍

One of the few travellers that actually went to a good certified nasi lemak joint. kudos. its a pity you didnt like the sambal, but its THE main reason why this place is always full! All nasi lemak joints are judged by their sambal as they taste different, some are sweet some are savory and some are hot. and yes, we do eat Nasi Lemak for breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight and after parties.
We heard this one was one of the best and let us tell you.. even without the sambal it was everything we could have hoped for. 😂🙏🏼Seriously a 10/10 dish for us haha! We just can’t get down with the anchovies! But that’s okay 😍 we could also eat for breakfast lunch and dinner!!
U don’t really have to eat it with sambal...as a Malaysian who hate spicy food, I skip the sambal & just eat the rice , peanut , anchovies and egg..sometimes i add on little rendang sauce or chicken curry...
That’s how we would prefer to eat it. Without the sambal and it was still 10/10 so we have no regrets haha 😊 the fried chicken and coconut rice make the fish 👏🏼
rendang is a slow cook dish where it's cook until the curry becomes likes a paste like you ate just now.. so yeah is hard to maintain the juicy on the beef all the time..
Sambal and rendang is full of flavor, some say over powering, rice is plain, to full fill each other your spoon must have rice, sambal, rendang, or chicken, try that way and you will know how the real nasi lemak taste, don't eat saperately
unfortunately this is not really an authentic nasi lemak joint. notice the shop is populated by chinese. you have to visit kampung baru area for authentic nasi lemak.
