He lost his sight from Diabetes but never lost his voice. What a singer, and even Dean Martin said 'he's my favourite' and that's some compliment from all those talents that were around in that era. There all gone now, God bless them all❤
The Mills Brothers were all born in my hometown of Piqua, Ohio. In their youth they would sit on my grandparent's fence and sing. The family moved to Bellefontaine, Ohio and come back to Piqua now and then. Sometimes they would get in touch with my grandparents.
I listen to the Mills Brothers every day. They were solid right to the end. Harry was 100% blind at this point, but his voice was the same. I'd recognize Harry and Donald's voices anywhere.
After seeing them on Deano's show singing up a lazy river I am hooked. Now I just a place or places to facilitate my new addiction.I would have loved to see these guys live!
Today the most popular sound is rap or hip-hop, but that is not either actually music or singing, as Kiss Gene Simons said rap is talking to beat. I was born in Dec. 1949 and while you may think it was a terrible time it wasn't. There use be a true variety called Ed Sullivan and you got dead everyone from Elvis and the Beatles, to old Vaudeville acts like Sophie Tucker and Georgie Jessel , opera, and Broadway, country and folk and my favorite was The Mills Brothers, who recorded 2000 songs and sold 50 million records. Harry Mills is the guy Dean Martin created has his idol. Today 20 yr old with 2 records is called a legend. It is so over used it means nothing but at one only extra special performers after decades were given that much earned title. One group that did was the Mills brothers, with over 50 yrs in the business. If you doubt just scrub the rap crap out of your ears and listen to group that covered music from 1928 till The late 80s. Rest well gentlemen, we will never see your like again
