- Hello RUclips world! This weeks video is the Ugly Duckling Challenge hosted by @DesertDIY ! Rules are simple. Find the ugliest piece you can and turn it into a beautiful swan. I must have taken this challenge serious because I found a piece in desperate need of a furniture makeover and lots of furniture repairs. The before and after makes it completely worth all my hard work!

Ugly Duckling turned Bee-utiful Swan?
omg the stencil is absolutely to die for, what a honey of a cabinet, I see the cabinet living a wonderful second chance and those drawers will bee a hive of activity bee-ing slid open and shut regularly. Love the design and colour choices on this cabinet.

Hi, I applaud your willingness to take on a project like this. As someone who has refinished many pieces of furniture. The thing you may have overlooked on this piece is that broken leg became damaged by termites. You can see the telltale signs of the channeling and tiny holes. If you see this in the future you may want to bag it and use a termite fogger before bring it into your home. Hope this helped and great job.
What an amazing difference. Not only did you save that piece from the trash but someone is going to have a piece to love in their home. Great job, I’m impressed.
The veneer will come off quicker if you use a hot iron over the wet cloths. As the heat softens the glue, furniture of this age usually used animal glue which is reversible

This is not only one of the best ugly duckling challenge entries, but one of the most amazing rescues I've seen. I'm pretty brave about trying to save furniture, but I'd have bypassed that one altogether. Bravo for not only saving her, but turning her into a work of art!

I like how you showed the top being cleared off in like less than a minute and that was probably like hours of work! Not only do I need more clamps but I need office clips now. @@SabsRehabs I just rewatched this video and still am blown away at the condition she was in before to what you did to her! But after watching the first time I actually ordered the bee stencil! I haven’t used it yet (it’s sitting somewhere I walk past all the time) and keep thinking “I’ve got to find a piece to put this on” lol. Need to order the bee pulls too! 🐝 💛🖤
You did an amazing job! Gorgeous! I have this exact same buffet, given to me from a friend. My legs are in better shape, but all in all the rest is the same. Just wondering why you used a poly top coat instead of gator hide. I’m need to this, and not sure what to use when.

I do use Gator Hide in certain cases. I really like how Gator Hide is able to be applied over Dixie Belle paints AND waxes! Unfortunately it is kind of pricey. The poly is just as durable, if not more and you get more for you money.
