You can never go wrong with black to highlight natural wood. There’s just something about that combo the adds a level of sophistication. You nailed it, yet again. Thanks for sharing your talent.
This piece is absolutely gorgeous. I looks like it came out of a designers showroom and would have cost thousands. The juxtaposition of the older style with the modern take using the black paint is stunning. And you were right the old dark stain covered the lovely wood grain. You can drop it off at my place any time after 9am. You are an artist.
You are right. John Widdicomb is very high end and well made designer furniture. Barry really scored with this one. I can’t believe he found it for $30!
Thank you Karla. I have toned it down considerably over the last few months. I think I have found a style that most enjoy. Thank you for this helpful feedback. Barry

I may have just done that since there was an audience : ) actually I always do. May have something to do with doing that job at a garden center in high school
I usually flinch when the paint comes out, but this turned into a stunning project. The wood grain actually looks better with the paint highlights "framing" the wood grain. Another great job. Thank you!
This is one of the very few cases that the paint actually enhanced the piece, he did a great job balancing the wood with the painted sections. Result is much better than the original; it is much more interesting and somehow lighter, not as "demure". I did joke that I would have liked a dark navy, but the black is fine. He really has an innate talent that most do not.
You made the right decision about the black paint! I'm anxious to try this on a similar piece that was given to me. Your videos are just the right combination of showing and telling.
I usually don't like to see painted wood pieces because I love the natural wood grain to show through. But THIS choice of partial paint, highlighted details, and perfect execution is an exception to the rule! WOW! You are amazing! What a beautiful, finished piece! BRAVO!

You are patient, focused and determined to make every step the very very best you can. Thank you for teaching me how to create furniture to a brand new and better level.
You made some great decisions with this piece, balancing the integrity of the piece with a more than reasonable amount of labor. You preserved and, I'd even say rescued or revealed so much of the wood's beauty and workmanship that was previously concealed by that old, dark finish. And, the black paint, judiciously applied to the other areas, actually seems to me to highlight that. I think this is your most beautiful piece to date!
Thank you Libby. I love the detailed feedback. You captured so many thoughts that crossed my mind as I worked on this project. My choices may not always be perfect, but I atleast want to put in the work that is required. Barry

I'm going to be honest- when you first said you'd be painting this piece I wasn't thrilled. I've always been hesitant to paint higher end items myself. Still, looking at the final reveal photos, I freely admit your decision was the best to go with. It's a stunning result. Outstanding work!
Wow !! I was upset thinking to myself " oh! Here's another "shabby chic " furniture restorer ruining another beautiful old antique solid wood dresser" !! But , I have to tell you that it turned out beautiful !! I love it!! the contrast of the colors really compliment each other ....Great job !!
I love the contrast of the light wood grain and black paint. I have to admit my heart sank when you pulled out that paint can though. I understand completely how the sanding of all the detailed work gets very tiring. I restored an antique dresser for my daughter and had to sand all of those tiny crevices. Like I have seen you do, I added a veneer top over a laminate. I'm too shy to do an actual how-to video, but you can see the dresser pictures on my channel. Thank you for your dedication to your community in not only the job you do, but the generosity that you show towards others less fortunate. Job well done.
Hi Kim. I look back on some of my projects and wish I had done things differently, but for that dresser I was pleased with the outcome and have kept it and enjoyed it. I can tell by your comments that you also have a passion for attempting to do things the right way, even if it takes 3x longer. I never imagined I would create a RUclips channel for furniture. All I can say is, even if you're shy, talking to the camera about something you are passionate about is easy. Can't wait to check out your work. Thank you for supporting my channel. Barry
The wood grain on the top and the drawers was worth all the stripping and sanding you did. I love the black background and the old drawer pulls add just the right amount of sparkle. Fantastic job.
Thank you for the support. There were a few who didn't like the black but the overwhelming majority agreed with you. I loved working on this project. I appreciate you watching the channel and hope you enjoy the other videos. Barry
Beautiful Finish! That wood grain is so amazing. Without the black it wouldn't have stood out so well! I love your work. Not just the wood work but the cinematography as well. Your calm demeanor is very soothing. Keep up the awesome work!

So cool to see you do a completely different style! Also I’m super jealous of your goodwill. Mine has a few broken side tables at best that are overpriced!
This Widdicomb Dresser was certainly elevated by this restoration. The company itself has such a grand history. The removal of the lacquer on the drawer pulls was an interesting choice, they had definitely been antiqued for a look of age distinction. The contrast of paint to wood brought the grain left exposed to a great feature. It's a piece that gained eye appeal by bringing a modern approach in this resurrection . Kudos.
I’m old enough to have bought furniture like this brand-new in the 1960s. The wood finish actually was lighter when it was new. I don’t mind your new take on this piece. It turned out beautifully! ⭐️

That is an exquisite piece done this way! I love the combination of a painted highlighting to a finish bringing out the natural wood grain! Best piece with paint I have seen yet!
@@MadCityModern You are so welcome. I love antiques and save them. I don't usually paint a piece either....I have gotten pieces 200 years old in very good condition....waxing them is usually all those needed once I repaired and cleaned them up...others obviously need much more. That is an exquisite piece done this way! I love the combination of a painted highlighting to a finish bringing out the natural wood grain! Best piece with paint I have seen yet!
Wow. Thank you. I don't paint often but I really enjoyed working on this piece
@@MadCityModern You are so welcome. I love antiques and save them. I don't usually paint a piece either....I have gotten pieces 200 years old in very good condition....waxing them is usually all those needed once I repaired and cleaned them up...others obviously need much more. My French sideboard is that old. It depends on the piece I am sure for you as well.
Love this!
Omg, Barry, this piece is absolutely amazing! You have NAILED it! Jaw dropping to say the least. Jesus, just stunning. ❤
Thank you Michelle. Sometimes these things come together after a few painful mistakes.
The dresser came out amazing. I love it.
Thank you! 😊
Hi Barry, I love love love how this piece turned out, I would be proud to have this displayed in my home, not necessarily in a bedroom, great bones and you did it justice...Take care...stay safe...
Thank you Martine. I actually have no idea how I will display it yet either. Thank you for the uplifting comment. Barry
What a lovely piece. I love the bullseye effect of the wood grain on the middle drawer. Nicely done. I learn so much from this channel and others like it.
Thank you, Nancy.

What a beautiful piece of furniture. Glad I found your channel. Your attention to detail and explanation of every step kept me interested. Great job.
Thank you Veronica! I really appreciate this feedback. Barry
truly remarkable piece of furniture.
Holy moly! The finished product at the end blew me away. This looks a million dollars. It shows that good prep is everything. A new sub from me. 👍😎👍
Thank you John! This one surprised me as well. I don't always have a game plan : ) Thanks for subscribing. Barry
The contrast between the wood and the black is beautiful and striking..... just lovely
thank you
What a beautiful piece! I love the beauty of the natural wood grain. I'm not always a fan of painted wood but in this case I think it was the perfect choice. The black really highlights the natural wood and really makes it pop. It's always a pleasure to watch your work. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. I actually realized that I am wanting to try things that I have never been a fan of myself. So I always appreciate the honest feedback. Barry
Vavoom! That black paint kicked this piece up a notch and made it look like a “gentleman’s” dresser.
Thank you
Yes you are so right, a lovely masculine piece, very dramatic.
I love how this piece came out, it is simply gorgeous. Your vision is spot on. All I can say is WOW.
Thank you Nora. As you can see, it often takes me several tries before a vision comes together
@@MadCityModern Same here
@@MadCityModern But your final product is always awesome.
WOW, I was concerned about painting some of it black, but it REALLY does highlight the beautiful oak. Incredible job!
Thank you David
That turned out absolutely stunning.
Thank you Andrea! Barry
