For sure, Opie knew what the caller was going to do. LOL. Sadly, Rollins was too busy jumping in and talking already that he missed that part of the caller's comment.
This interview really changed my opinion of Henry Rollins...he's so fucking passive aggressive , I was really hoping someone would have called him out for straight up rambling out of his ass for ten minutes
Henry is an enigma. I either love him or hate him. Sometimes he's enlightening, sometimes he's a total douche. He always puts himself out there so that's what happens, he doesn't have a filter.
I think Henry can be an interesting guy, but he is the most insecure person on the planet. As soon as he feels like he might not be the coolest, toughest guy in the room he instantly lashes out and starts bullying people. There's a video on RUclips of him in a record store throwing a hissy fit at some teenagers that feels very similar to this. The way he immediately started throwing insults and talking down to these guys and then just acted like nothing happened and didn't apologize just seems like something an insecure high schooler would do.
He’s a stand up comedian. He attempts to tell funny stuff from his life, in comedy clubs where is the difference. I’ve heard him verbally assault many people this way. Jimmy is a far better debater than Henry though. And never resorts to below the belt stuff.
He dissed Jay Mohr to his face and continued to ignore him, and then went on his podcast when he realised Jay was actually famous and a respected comedian. He only cares about celebrity. O&A indirectly bashing him is cringeworthy, he is so unaware of his inflated ego.
Why do you even like him the smallest bit? He is a unwarrantedly pompous jackoff who thinks he is 48 million times smarter and more knowledgeable than he is.
LOL To be fair to Rollins... Richard Pryor literally did a bit about a German Shepherd, in Live in Concert. You may remember... his monkeys died... the dog consoled him...
Sometimes Henry can be unpredictable, but for the most part he's not that bad. I think this interview was just awkward & Jim was too easily offended, looking for an argument in my opinion. We all know Opie loves to force other people into conflict
I took it as Rollins being overly aggressive for nothing. He could’ve just explained how he doesn’t want to be pin holded onto comedy, he didn’t have to start bashing comedy and bragging about how he knows more about Richard Pryor than everybody.

I like how Henry doesn't apologize for rubbing Jimmy the wrong way. Jimmy always talk about how comics shouldn't apologize for offending people, and Henry chooses to stick by his words. If Jimmy holds on this personal then that is all on him. But I wonder how Henry would react to a statement if made by Jimmy made a statement about 80's hardcore scenes.
I'm not a huge Norton fan, but Rollins is a pretentious d. Like someone below me nailed it: "He's not as smart as he seems to think he is". He poses an an intellectual, but he is NOT an intellectual....

@FirstResponder911 because "Henry Rollins vs Jim Norton" is a more succinct title than "Henry Rollins says some cunty things and Jim Norton gets annoyed and they have a passive aggressive exchange in which Jimmy gets the better of Henry of but then it cools off and they have a decent discussion"

Jim got offended by his criticisms of comedians but isn't Rollins free to not want to be a standup and be a speaker / activist instead? I mean it's two different things. Rollins doesn't want to be a stand-up, but he said that being a stand-up would mean being a hack, then he said that he has respect for comics, so he's fake. Then he gets all pretentious about listening to Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce. THEN he starts shitting on Jim Norton for no fucking reason, even though Norton is one of the highest level headliners in the US.

He isn't trying to be funny, Like how Zappa was trying to create something beyond just music, Henry is very unique and his "pieces" or "bits" are very interesting.. This is why Opie is good. He saved this interview by keeping the dialog open. Jimmy and Ant wanted to destroy Rollins after he made that patronizing comment. Opie gave the Rollins a chance to explain himself..
I think I know exactly what you mean. I still have some of his books kicking around here someplace, not that I'd ever read them again. I will occasionally listen to some old Rollins Band stuff, Do It, for example - maybe once every four or five years. If I have any appreciation left for the old man, it's purely nostalgic. After all, I enjoyed the hell out of his work at the time. But we all grow up eventually.

@Thebboss Having been a Rollins completists for some time I can tell you that It's Henry's back handed way of insulting radio peronalities. He's talked about it before how the industry makes you compress the signal and EQ the voices to compensate for personality.

You put alot of words in my mouth. I like Opie. I think Jim is funnier. Period. He consistently cracks up the group on air, whereas I can't remember the last time Opie made the room stood still. Ahh, Henry... he's not a bad fellow. He's not stupid, not at all, but he just isn't as sharp as comedians like Louis CK, Bill Burr and probably even little ol' Jimmy Norton.
