Super cool behind the scenes. Especially for such a large set. Looking forward to more!
This was incredibly helpful--thanks for making this. The breakdown is packed with gems. The Neewer fabric idea is very resourceful. The final product looks very polished 🙌🏽
Finally someone who talks about this! I‘ve been looking for a solution to light my choir. I used a 12x12 butterfly with 3 cob lights for our recent music video, but it restricted the camera movement a lot. Love your solution with the hanging diffusion cloth from above
nice vid fellas, thanks much. the detail and clarity in some of your close-ups are just phenominal - esp for YT compression. 👏👏
Really cool BTS, great idea about joining the cheaper diffusion cloth. I had wondered about doing that before and didn't know that fabric glue was a thing. Awesome.
Super informative, really appreciate this breakdown. You guys rock!
this was super insightful, thank you
Very detailed breakdown, lots of good information here
Just discovered your channel, awesome content by all standards!
this was great, very informative , thanks a lot !
Great video, looks amazing. Subscribed
Did a similar one for Sarab Band. Only 3 cam ops and no rehersal. We ended up using 1000w Led China Ball, Asteras Titans and bulb in practical to get a more energetic vibe for the music. 2 takes / songs, a total discovery each times, damn artists 😂😂😂😂
this was great thanks. How did you mount hang the diffusion to the ceiling? Also whats the black cloth?
The Rag Place rents/ships large fabrics if you ever need to do this again.
how did you attach the diffusion to the scaff?
Love the Mole Zip lights! I still have a few that I just can’t part ways with lol great video. Thanks for sharing!
We have used them a few times on different projects. They are hot and eat power but man are they pretty.
@@FilmedByHendrix Absolutely! It's nice being able to use them on stage setting like this that can handle the power. Not so fun when you have to use a Generator lol
I think the fixture is called a Zip Light.
What was the process of connecting the two lengths of diffusion materials together, simply just ironing them? I wouldn’t have thought that would work as I’ve often wanted to use this material but found it too narrow and had only ever though of sewing or stapling them together
It was just fabric glue off of Amazon.
What was the issue with the komodo's? not enough lowlight performance? as long as we lit the scene i've never felt that this is an issue.
We had the Sony’s on hand.
When I watch videos like this, I never understand how anyone is getting paid, or even how the budget covers gear rentals and crew? I'm guessing it's a passion project where nobody gets paid?
Gigs like this are great for learning, experimenting and networking. The only ones making money are the equipment manufacturers
Church.
at around 8:51 you talked about rating them down to 3200. Can you explain what you mean by rating it down? Thanks for the video.
He just means he lowered it (with the intention of possibly raising it back up in post). At 3200, on the FX6, the noise isn’t that different than at the native 12,800, so it’s a fair trade off given that there were no hot highlights that would gain in noise when lifting it in post. I’m not a Sony user, but I’ve graded a bit of it, I have a feeling that this approach helps the shadows stay noise free in this scenario.
With the two base ISOs, you have two sensitivities. You'll get more noise at 6400 in the 800 base ISO, than if you were in the 12,800 base. When you're in those bases though, you only get a certain range that you can go up or down. To counteract this, you can "lower your iso" with stopping down F-stop, or adding ND.
Often if you're struggling with low light levels, but still on the border of potentially having enough light, you can just switch to that 12800 base, then add ND, or stop your lens down to compensate for your over exposure. If the light keeps falling(like sunset) then you can just pull out your ND. You'll stay at the right exposure, while having a very clean image.
@@jm-crtvare the base levels the same for a7iv?
@@spencerfr1 yep, 800 and 12,800
What was the reasoning for shooting this live like this instead of doing mulitple takes so your operators aren't in other ops shots
This would've freed up money for those cp2 too haha (with less ops and cameras)
Recording the audio was main priority so they did 2 or 3 takes. All cameras (minus one a7) were personal gear and ops were there just for fun. Wasn’t a paid gig, just an excuse to hang with friends.
btw, how in the hell do you only have 379 subs?? seen vids with 100x that with far less info/relevancy
Haha 385 now!
@@FilmedByHendrix moving on up!! 📈
You have to work on the scenography, lighting people is ok, but it's extremely boring in such a bland place.
If you accept critics, i didn't feel the warmth at all, because warmth is subjective and need contrast to feel it, and everything is so uniform in color and contrast, i felt cold more warmth
I have to agree. A large soft light can feel cold even with a warm color temperature. No specular highlights at all
@@musicelect naturally warm (as the temperature we feel, not the scientific color) light is harsh: fire, direct sun. Soft light is mostly cold: cloudy day
Warm soft is more a "cosy" feel, like curtains, small space, muted colors. Here i feel more the cloudiness. Empty spaces are often realy cold in feeling as the subject seems to be lost in it, lonely, isolated
@@lucasvivante8988 💯
your opinion is subjective. When he said warm, I think he meant color tones alone, which the tones are warmer vs being more cold/blue. They were on minimum budget, super large space to light, a ton of people, minimal gear. Looks amazing, warm, and polished for what they had IMO. As he said at the end.. next time he has to figure out a way to take this to the next level still only using little to no budget which is not easy to do lol.
@@TheyCallMeCotton if for you a couple of fx9 and fx6 with a 10 person crew is low budget for a live cession video... You could spend the money of 3 person of this surnumbered crew to light properly the background and make an effort on the room. That's a constructive criticism. And i don't feel like the tone were very warm if you ask me!
