A visual inspection of the 'blank' track should show if there is any data inscribed. Vinyl can store frequencies below the usual 40hz roll off with most ADCs and as such a WAV may not replicate this data. But under an optical magnifier any deviance of the physical track may show there is VLF there.
It sounds like from the final comments that they've decided to do a Beatles and make something with no meaning to drive those who look for meaning in their work mad
The family imprint is very similar to the old “Protect And Survive” family art in the old public information campaign by the British government in 1976
I remember reading somewhere that the point of the track "Magic Window" was to round out the playtime to 66.6 minutes (specifically to mess with fanatical religious types).
One thing about the mega/kilohertz thing is that early electronics schematics used m for 1000 and mm for millions since M is the Roman numeral for 1000. On a modern schematic if you have say a 4,700 and 1,000,000 ohm resister it'll say 4.7k and 1m respectively where as older ones will say 4.7m and 1mm. That said I don't know if radfio frequencies ever used that convention but If they did something like that on their album that would be an insanely obscure reference that not many people would know about today.
I've seen the M and MM notation used in financial documents but I don't ever think I've seen an electronic schematic with that. I'll have to look for that. I have seen old schematics with capacitors labeled as as "mmf" (micro micro farads), which we now call picofarads.
I'm working on couple things based on the 162.225 frequency produces some weird result Changing the speed to 162.225% speed produces some weird results, and also the pitch to this amounmt. Also regarding the track, rather than change it to 2.3 seconds, changing each half of the track to 1.62225 seconds
Perhaps the 1 minute and 46 seconds of silence is a cover version of the last movement of 4'33 by John Cage, published in 1952, the original of which was 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Honestly, even if you can hear some breathing sounds or radio tuning sounds at certain speeds that doesn't necessarily mean they were "hidden messages". In my own music I sometimes use slowed-down sounds of hammering, or metal objects blowing in the wind, because I think it sounds neat. If someone sped a track up sufficiently, they'd hear the original "clang! clang!" mixed-in with everything else. But that doesn't mean they'd have found some secret message or won a vague prize. As to the guy who swore he heard a faint, almost morse-code type drumbeat, I wouldn't be surprised if that was just regular RF interference. Possibly from his computer, or a digital phone, or just from the houses around him.
Huh, it does look similar! It reminded me of the etched plaque diagram of humans on Pioneer, and the golden record of sounds of earth on Voyager... but it would also make sense if the last trace of humans from their short magic window of existence is a form of the Protect And Survive logo.
As a devoted Boards of Canadian, my friend Jorma says that (at least according to TennisThom) BoC has a fixation with the number 666. Jorma summed up the digits of the VHF frequency as follows: 1+5=6, 2+2+2=6 and then there is the single 6. QED, he said but I am not convinced.

If there is really something on this track, you need to get a presteen vinyl copy and play this with a good cartridge! The best you can get! Only then you will be able to extract the hidden message if there is any... Some cartridges are able to go as high as 100.000 hz but these are rare and cost a fortune...
I love BoC's music and own all their albums, but I am too lazy to search for hidden clues and Easter eggs so I just put on headphones and listen to it instead.
I think if I had put hidden stuff in something like that, I would have absolutely no comment about it. Let people find it, or not find it, think its there, or not. The fun is in the "is it or isnt it" and dies the moment the creator comments.
Video game developers hide Easter eggs in their games. But even though some gamers go looking for them in every game so they can be the first to report them on social media, they don't always find them. So after a while the developers will have to leak a hint (anonymously at times) so somebody can find one. It's great PR.
To me, the "message" in the sped up track sounds like just the usual psychoacoustic hallucination that your brain makes up when confronted with such sounds, e.g. like hearing satanic "backwards masking" voices in records when played backwards. It's just your brain trying to make sense of an audio signal that it can't quite get a grip on, its not a 'natural' sound that you've heard before, it's not 'music' (pitches), so your language centres impose "meaning" on it. It would have been nice to hear the specific piece without being told what it said first, I bet if you played it to 100 people you'd get 200 different answers. I'm a big Boards of Canada fan, btw, I would never have known that some people wig out so obsessively over this stuff until this video!
It looks like there could be something in the spectrogram, but then again it could just be the way the frequencies change in the track. Nine Inch Nail also hid some artwork in their albums' spectrogram, most notably in Year Zero.

Is the B-side pattern on the shellac singles made my Victor anything? I know it isn't meant to be played from a needle. Might correspond to a tone or something.
Well misprints on record sleeves can make it through... The early copies of 'real new fall LP' in 2003 had the tracks printed in the wrong order on the CD insert. Probably many more examples of this happening. But the human mind finds it very easy to agree with a supplied set of printed lyrics while listening to backwarda audio gibberish. It's a bit like that thing where you try to say the name of the colour thats been used to print the letters making up the name of a different colour.
I think you overrate proof checking - Paul Hardcastle's single "Just for Money" managed to misspell Laurence Olivier's name as "Lawrence" for a couple of pressings.
