LISZT La Campanella |Nicolas BALDEYROU

- Dear friends, I hope you’re well! Today’s video was a real challenge, one of the most demanding arrangement I ever made, the famous piano study : « La campanella » (Italian for "The little bell") by Liszt! It is the nickname given to the third of six Grandes études de Paganini, S. 141(1851), in the key of G-sharp minor. Its melody comes from the final movement of Niccolò Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor, where the tune was reinforced metaphorically by a 'little handbell' illustrated by the large intervals of sixteenth notes in the right hand. La campanella is widely regarded as one of the most difficult pieces ever written for the piano.
To respect the original key and range of the piano as much as possible, I made my own arrangement and chose to play the solo part on an E-flat clarinet, a beautiful Buffet Tosca Green Line freshly produced in the Mantes factory, supported by 2 clarinets in A, one bass clarinet, one contrabass clarinet and a double bass, with the one and only Yann DUBOST, an incredibly talented and versatile musician you may know from many previous videos, thank you so much Yann!
If you’re interested, the score will be soon available for clarinet quartet on www.clarinet-edition.fr
I hope you’ll like it!
Take care and stay safe ❤️ Видеоклипы
Loved it that Liszt interrupted his meditation in the garden and craned his neck to see what kind of virtuosi these were. Yes, master, the finest kind!
Haha
Thank you Louis :-)))
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 Am I not thankful? 🙃
Oh man, the intonation on that little E♭ is impeccable, I'm so jealous, haha. They are notoriously difficult to keep in tune and those octaves, the diaphragm control is amazing.
well he does have the most expensive and best Eefer on the market. The tosca Eb
Thank you! Really difficult indeed but a good horn helps so much! This Tosca I borrowed is amazing
@@nicktheclarinet6718 Oh wow, I just looked up the price on the Tosca, AUD 14k, that's crazy.
Nico got lungs boi!
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 your tone is amazing spite the clarinet
I never thought I’d see the day I’d hear la Campanella piano version on clarinet. How wrong I was! The wait was well worth it. Thank you bringing us fantastic music over these times.
Thank you so much for your kind words, I did my best :-))
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 If I may, I also have a few piece suggestions. Have you ever considered messing around with Beethovens moonlight sonata? That could be fun to try. Vivaldi is my personal favorite baroque composer, so I was extremely happy to see the RV 580 on your channel when it came out. I especially like the third movement of the concerto in A minor that is also a violin duet, but that’s merely a personal thing. Of course you can never go wrong with Chopin (especially from a man with your talents) pieces like the first Ballade in G minor come to mind, but that’s a bit long, almost 10 minutes. I don’t especially remember the names, but there’s definitely quite a few transcendental etudes from Lizst, that could be fun to try, although quite difficult. And there’s one more quite personal suggestion, but of course, its up to you what you want to play. I don’t think you’ve ever played Schubert on the channel, and one piece that really comes to mind when thinking of Schubert is Erlkiong. Ive heard this piece before on stage with a tenor. I’ll never forget when I heard the poem lines in the native language, but with translations on a big screen. I remember the complete dread and almost frightened feeling when the tenor kept getting louder and louder until softening near the end of the poem. Anyway, with the exception of my anecdote, those are a few pieces that I thank you for reading and possibly consider, and nevertheless If you don’t choose any of them, I hope it brought you a few new ideas at least. God be with you.
I never imagined that this piece could fit on clarinet so well! The crispiness of staccato in the altissimo (though it may be clarion, I'm unsure of the Eb clarinet's tuning) is angelic, bravo Maestro! Will you ever perform Ravel's Daphnis Et Chloe excerpts?
Additionally I loved the use of the birds calling for food at the extreme altissimo register! That was hilarious! Wonderful cover!
Thank you so much! Good idea for Ravel!

Haha merci beaucoup Marie-Luce!
Исполнительское мастерство - более чем на высоте, но особенно впечатляет аранжировка. Думаю, Николя, что Паганини и Лист,
как и мы, грешные, так же восторженно аплодируют, глядя на тебя со своих Небес...
Thank you very much
Yeeeeees

What a performance Nicolas! What about some Weber production?🙃😏 Its a clarinet channel after all! It can't miss!😁
Magnifica interpretación, es el único requinto que suena como un clarinete, Bravo 👌👋
Amazing! Thanks for sharing with us!
Merci Nicolas. Toujours aussi bon. Ces petits montages musicaux, me ravissent.
Awesome!.
Thank you. 🙏
Just pure genius in all of your arrangements! What a divine delight listening to them. Thank you again, Nicolas!

I love listening and watching this one. Just flawless in every way. The breathing is amazing. The string bass add so much too. I can’t wait to see what’s next. How about Grieg’s Holberg Suite? That would be awesome on clarinets.

Fantastic video! I didn’t think about having the solo part on Eb clarinet but it makes sense since the piece gets really high.
Thank you! I tried many solution but as I wanted to keep the original key, the Eb was the only one I could manage but it’s just me!

3:11 time stamp 😂😂😂😂 Phenomenal job!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much!
One of my late mother's favourite pieces, she used to play it on recitals. She has been related to Liszt through her teacher prof. Kestenberg. I've been expecting to hear the finale, beautifully adapted and performed - and those subtle scales and chords all over the piece, too. One of my favourite moments is 3:02, which I find humourous, those sudden breaks.
