Dude, this is pure insanity! I cannot believe my eyes and ears. Probably the best I've seen anyone play the marimba, including my amateur self. The technique, range within and between hands, dynamics, you're too much man! Haha keep it up!! Maikel
I just came from watching someone play Fantasie Impromptu on a marimba now THIS! The percussionists deserve way more spotlight than they get cuz yall are absolutely winning out here!👏🏽👏🏽
That ... was ... UN .. BELIEVABLE! Bravo x 1000 ! Amazing. Not sure if most folks know that the keys on a marimba are graduated in width so playing octaves etc. requires constant adjustment of the 2 mallets. Not to mention the suberb recording of that excellent sounding marimba .. wow. Mallet selection perfect. Fantastic one-handed rolls/trills with .. modified Burton/Musser grip in right hand and Stevens in left? So great. Thank you so much for sharing.
I love how you stepped back on that last note but kept your right foot in place- it's like you are playing a vibraphone and you want the last chord to resonate. Andres, that chord resonated with me and I'm sure it did with everyone watching this. Truly masterful playing!
I don't think I'm overstating it when I say that you are changing the language of the instrument. I'm amazed by every video you post. I wish I were a kid again seeing something like this for the first time. It redefines what's possible. Apparently, everything is. Thanks so much for posting!
i never in my life thought la campanella of all pieces would be possible to play on the marimba yet here we are today this is incredible and you have insane talent i applaud you and all your effort :)
Haha I didn't think it would fly either. It's also only barely possible - at least for me. I'm sure other people could pull it off more easily :) Thanks for your kind comment!
Hi! Just finished listening and i have to say, other than the transcription being really, really astonishing, what really swept me off the chair was your technique, being still a student i find this extremely eye-widening to what the so called "skill ceiling" of our instrument is, and wanted to say that even given the extreme difficulty of the piece, your voicing is sublime.
Hi, thanks for your kind comment! Yes this piece seems quite difficult now - however, I'm sure that future generations of marimbists will be eating this for breakfast eventually :)
That truly sent shivers down my spine! The piece is difficult enough on piano... but on marimba it would surely be ridiculously impossible?!? Wow, what virtuosity!
You are a magician. I love this piece. I can play some Liszt on the piano, but this is still out of my reach. The piano version is one of those uncommon pieces that can bring tears to my eyes. Your performance and feeling did the same.
Wonderful acoustic giving the same effect of piano pedal. The arrangement is very clever, transposed to f minor, keeping the essential of the music while playing at most 4 notes at the same time on an instrument with less notes. I also really like the added ornaments not written in the original, Liszt would like it for sure! The use of the wooden part of the stick gives a clearer sound, I wasn’t expecting this possibility. And the interpretation is also incredible, you are a true musician, not only someone who has good technique!
for the tremolo at the top i found that you can put mallet 3 on top of B but mallet 4 below C and move your arm up and down rapidly for a louder and more clear tremolo.
Astonishing performance, didn't know the marimba could support such difficult pieces like a Liszt-Paganini etude. You absolutely nailed the chromatics and the coda, it sounds so good! You can be proud of this performance 🎉
I just know those one handed chromatics with 3 & 4 were near impossible to do, oh my god... That takes some seriously insane skill. Absolutely amazing.
This is beautiful man hats off to you!!! I’m only confused on the shaft on the bars for just for a couple seconds… bur truly an outstanding job on this I mean it!
socks on carpet to reduce step noise is genius
It also reduces reflection of sound into mics!
@@anderseltenmarimbareflection is cool though
@@zaccsonofjohn1132 That could be! The tonemeister for this recording, however, preferred to avoid it.
En ymmärrä vastausta.
What that mean's?
imagine playing so beautifully you make the piece sound like it was meant to be played on marimba

Beautiful

Yes, same gentleman. And that too was simply impossible. You listen and watch, and it’s still impossible
Same
True that! Watching them focusing on 4 mallets playing on different places on such a huge instrument at the same time, is absolutely breathtaking!
I barely understand the pure clarity and accuracy he has. Amazing job
Incredible arrangement. So technically expressive, with such a high level of musicality. Bravo~
Thank you very much!

WOW those one handed chromatic runs are incredible!!!
the way he plays so relaxed is magnificent!!
Always loved hearing this piece on piano. I didn't expect a marimba version to be just as full. Amazing work!

I didn't even notice that - but I see your point now! Thanks for your kind comment.
I like his mixtechnique: Stevens on left, traditional on right
Burton grip also gets an honorable mention towards the end of the piece!@@jumisanfe
Just superb. Genius in arrangements and playing. God bless you.

Agreed! All the technique in the world would have limited interest without phrasing and musicality and this has it all
This is insane. how is it even possible on a marimba
Those right hand chops are INSANE!!!!
This is incredible ! I'm always amazed to see people pushing the limits of their instrument 🤯🤩
Woe! What just happened here?! I’d say arguably the finest marimba performance ever! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
whoever arranged this is a genius
those one handed chromatic runs are ridiculous. thank you for sharing

That’s amazing! Didn’t know the marimba could be used to play difficult pieces like this one.
Thanks! To be honest, for a long time I didn't think so either :) takes a bit of effort, but its doable!
@@anderseltenmarimba you are very humble, and that makes it double admirable. You are the best, man!

Hmm, a mandolin roll - that's actually a great idea. Adds an extra little theatrical element, too. Nice catch!

Inspiring. The embodiment of whoI'd wish to become as a Marimbist.
Amazing! Really love your playing :)
I'm very happy to hear that, thanks a lot! =)

How do you even improve from this? This is absolutely peak marimba performance- it's crazy!
superb sound in my HT-
"busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger" . .
it's like mallets are controlling him and he's just going with it that's so cool

How much hours did you had to play so well this piece?
I'm impressed, thank you for your video!
Thanks a lot! I’ll admit to having spent quite a few hours in the practice room with this one 🙈
Why is nobody talking about right hand Burton and left hand Stevens this guy is crazy
Those one handed chromatic runs kinda blew my mind 😅😅
👏👏👏
Dang, Christopher Nolan on the Marimba!
