I've worked around motors and impellers like this constantly at a waste water facility. I'm doing a scada conversion on a plant in the top 5 most advanced in the world for waste water treatment. The motors I've seen can be scary when they act up or chatter. I was standing in the blower room one day threading pipe when a 700hp blower motor for an aeration pool starting "backfiring"? Atleast that's what it sounded like. I could feel that thing hitting my chest every time it pulsed power back and forth as it chattered. Pretty insane what these things can do. Of course to no avail that motor blew a relay and the relay had to be replaced before that awful noise stopped

Yes it does if you dry run more than 2min or so

We start dry to check direction, if it runs dry for long it will damage the pumoa
Only thing running dry will hurt on a submersible pump is the windings from over amperage. It pulls more amps dry than in the curve.
