    Pumped hydro is an amazing way of storing renewable energy and releasing it when needed, but it has to be built in natural depressions in the geography. The amount of CO2 emitted to build reservoirs of Taum Sauk out of concrete means that won't be green for decades, if ever, considering ongoing repairs needed etc.

    • @LALSHOW
      @LALSHOW  8 месяцев назад

      Pumped Hydro Storage is effective for storing large amounts of energy and has a long lifespan. However, it requires specific geographical features and its construction can be carbon-intensive. A holistic environmental assessment is vital for each project.

      How do you think they mine, smelt, transport, and produce all this stuff? There are no solar powered ships, mines, etc, and solar, wind, or any of these technologies are far from "green." Take a look around you inside or out and everything you see is either made from oil/gas/coal or it requires them to be produced and transported. The only "green" way to live is a 100% hunter/gatherer lifestyle.

    The "turbulent turbine" makes a pretty swirl, but both turbulence and friction are energy sinks -- and this design has lots of both.
    Turbulence turns energy into heat via unproductive eddy currents -- that energy is unavailable to the turbine.
    The water at 1:00 has more interactions with the containing walls than necessary. And it is doing so at high speed, which makes more friction.
    I am skeptical that pre-swirl going into a turbine is a good thing for efficiency.

      Just look at the Tom Sauk installation; the amount of concrete to build that has caused so much CO2 emissions, it's highly unlikely it will ever be carbon neutral.

      Your perspective highlights a common concern among critics of the "green energy" movement. While renewable energy sources offer environmental benefits, the ways they're implemented, monetized, and controlled can sometimes seem misaligned with the broader goals of sustainability and community well-being. As with many industries, it's crucial to strike a balance between profit, ethical business practices, and genuine environmental benefits. Critical dialogues around these topics are essential for ensuring that green initiatives are genuinely beneficial for society.

    ALL of these "zero-emission systems" require a lot of emissions to build them! If the power output of the system is Po, then how much energy Ein did it take to construct it and haul it to its final destination? How long is the payback period, which is Ein/Po???

    Put the rotar after a damn and double energy building

    • @LALSHOW
      @LALSHOW  8 месяцев назад

      Placing a rotor (or turbine) after a dam can indeed harness the gravitational force of the falling water, converting it into electricity. It's the principle behind hydroelectric power. Combining different renewable energy methods can optimize energy generation. However, proper design, safety measures, and environmental considerations are essential.

    4:41 It's not actually a power plant, it's a battery that stores power in the form of potential energy.
    I can't think any reason why it's the shape it is. Round is better.
    Potential storages are good for two things, storing of water, to be released over time and storing power.
    I imagine storages at much greater height differences, which also increases storage capacity.
    The tensile strength with a round shape is the best way to keep the shape intact, besides
    building the lower reservoir in the ground, receiving sideways support from rock.
    Also, filtered rain water can be added into the higher reservoir at a lower cost than pumping from the
    lower reservoir.

    • @LALSHOW
      @LALSHOW  7 месяцев назад

      You've provided some valuable insights into potential energy storage systems. Indeed, round shapes can often distribute pressure and tension more evenly, making them a practical choice for structures like energy storage facilities. Additionally, utilizing natural features like the ground and rock formations for support can enhance stability and efficiency. Moreover, the idea of integrating rainwater collection into the system showcases an innovative approach to sustainability. It's fascinating to consider how these technologies can continue to evolve for more effective energy solutions.

    The only thing it matters is whether it will bring in money/profit. If it doesn't then no matter how good the innovation is it won't survive.

    I'm really worried about how all this offshore power is going to effect wildlife. I don't mean whales getting stuck in them, or the noise bothering them. There's a ton of wildlife that can get lost during there migration. I mean whales, fish, lobsters, crabs, and aquatic life that uses magnetic fields to navigate could get lost when they come across these high power lines and generators that will be creating magnetic fields.

    • @LALSHOW
      @LALSHOW  8 месяцев назад +1

      Offshore power infrastructure can produce electromagnetic fields which may affect marine species that rely on Earth's natural magnetic fields for navigation. While renewable energy is vital, it's essential to study and mitigate potential impacts on marine ecosystems as these technologies develop.

      Indeed, Switzerland has leveraged its mountainous terrain and abundant water resources to become a leader in hydroelectric power, particularly pumped-storage power plants. The Linth Limmern power station, for instance, is a testament to Swiss engineering prowess and sustainable energy solutions. Pumped-storage plants like Linth Limmern are essential for balancing the grid, storing excess energy during low demand, and releasing it during peak times. It's a sustainable way of managing energy resources while valuing water's importance. 🏞️💡🇨🇭
