That look on the Charles Altura's face at 6:11, the "You're one of the best musicians I'll see in my life, and I'm in your band, and your killing it!" kind of look.
This is actually pretty common in modern classical music, but not so common outside of that context. As an alternative to using one's hand, some pianists will apply pressure to the strings inside the grand piano using household items to produce different timbres. This is called prepared piano.
first: that sudden headbanging mood at 5:28 just fucking in your face amazing, then happiness takes over at 5:42 ... oh yeah jollly moments jolly headbanging... solo solo... 6:12 building tension ... we want a resolution maybe? .... BOOM! 6:25! haha... this is just amazing.
glad Im not the only one fascinated by that :D did you notice how it fucked up even the guitar guy? :D barely caught up on the 2nd repetition :D I love this quartet so much
Never mind the number of notes. The number of notes goes along with the spirit of the music played. In flamenco music, or in indian classical music, you have a lot of notes, too. It's only energy. The only thing that matters is: do you hear EVERY SINGLE NOTE in your head when you play it? And is your spirit totally involved into music?
The drummer is Swiss. Quite a timekeeper.
This needs more likes

@No Name you are a frigging Genius.

TheSeveredTongues switzerland has a reputation for luxury watch companies
It feels like I’m watching the final episode of a really intense anime about Jazz

Blood Blockade Battlefront actually has this kind of soundtrack tho.
Honestly don't think I've ever seen a group of musicians with such a titanic grip on their rhythm
totally agree!
Couldn't be said any better
absolutely love that description haha
Bunny0ni0n Great use of the word Titanic! :P
Go check out Dhafer Youssef quartet. Tigran is in there too with chris jennings on bass, mark guiliana on drums and dhafer youssef on oud and vocals
This is the most flawlessly executed, extremely technical music I've ever seen. I can't even fathom how clean they are playing this material live.
5 points! :) Album Voice, song Flashback :D
or Keith Jarrett (solo concert - Tokyo, 1984) ....sick... :D
thanks for the recommendations guys, i will be sure to look into them
Check out car bomb. Those guys play really rhythmically technical stuff, and play it live flawlessly.
@@some_g333 Car Bomb is insane!!Love them!!
That piano headbang was amazing, the drumming was amazing, everyone was amazing...this is amazing. Amazing.
So, whats your point???
Amazing that you find this amazing, amazing.
@geno its amazing how you don't get it. Amazing.
Okay but can we all appreciate that this man is still hearting comments 5 years later
Ironically, your comment wasn't hearted.
Not yet
Still waiting for that heart
breuh@@Omegado
This is disgustingly good. I am speechless.
2:13 to 2:18 sounds like it's friggin sampled. UNreal
There's a couple of times I'm not sure if the sound stuttered or they did that for real
I would listen to a whole song with that being the main theme
It makes for a good phone ringtone / alarm tone: ruclips.net/video/TYUeO-bGLx4/видео.html

I just discovered Tigran Hamasyan tonight. This made me full. Consider me a convert.
Converted from… rap?
That female singer brings all the vibes
That look on the Charles Altura's face at 6:11, the "You're one of the best musicians I'll see in my life, and I'm in your band, and your killing it!" kind of look.
It's funny because Charles Altura is one of the least expressive yet killing musicians I can think of, so even that bit of expression says so much
He was featured as a soloist on Tigran's second album Red Hail- one of his best recordings in my opinion.
Drummer: what time signature should we play in this tune?
Tigran: yes.
It's all in 4 technically lol
@@PorkchopSandviches I find it to be 29/16
@@oliverbrunncarstens4215it’s in 4/4 actually. I know I was shocked when I first heard the song but now it’s easy to hear.
This is absolutely unreal. He is definitely one of the best. I can't get enough of this dude.
This is my absolute favorite Tigran piece. Second place would be "A Crane Came from Van"
Totally agree! That song was my introduction to Tigran and his amazing music!
Tigran is simply FANTASTIC! Loved it to see him, Charles And Arthur playing together!
My favorite version of vardavar.
Same.
This dude has his hand inside the piano making it produce the desired sound. A musical genius.

have watched this 5 times straight... so creative... original... the drummer is on fire!
This guys smile is just so contagious
It’s just so wholesome watching these people play this music
Arthur Hnatek is the Matt Gartska in jazz
The old drummer for Tigran, Nate Wood is awesome too!
Nate Wood is a god among men lol
I'm still convinced he's actually Vladimir Putin but I'll let it slide
haha, the resemblance is uncanny
He is a god among gods. So is Dave King, The Bad Plus.
I love this live version so much!!!! It somehow reminds me of beeing madly in love with someone. Even the mistakes they make are lovely
This is the best performance ever. Energy 100%
Thank heaven that there are people out there making music like this.
Tigran Hamasyan and Charles Altura really fit together imo.
Back for my monthly watch of this
Now you can tell that THIS GUY PRACTICES!
I think my face would explode if I went to this!
Just saw tigran near in ardmore, pennsylvania and it was incredibly inspiring. Thank you!
Wow! Talk about rhythmic timekeeping to the max! Permutations! Great fun and great positive energy!
Tigran jan simply amazing
So many layers that it should be listened multiple times
Thank you
came looking for djent and I'm not dissapointed
@SourLime this is pretty much the jazz equivalent of djent
it's djazz
this is simultaneously super groovy and impossible to dance/headbang to
Bordering on absolute genius.
Its is mindblowing. I'm a huge fan of Djent and this has the same feel 🤯🤯
I vividly remember that concert: AMAZING !
i can finally headbang to this.. my job here is done
Knowing what this song is about makes it even more beautiful.
What’s it about
A festival where people pour water on each other
i love how people say "Knowing what this song is about makes it even more beautiful" and then says nothing about it. Like, for real???
@@kumquat2728 Vardavar is a holiday in Armenia
Killer guitar tapping. I love the kinda pop/rock ending of the song. You can sing it in a soccer stadium 😂
Have I found it? Will anything ever be better than this?
They make such a convoluted grouping of subdivisions groove hard...something absolutely incredible
Wow...incredible music!
Bravo Tigran and band!!! Magnificent!!!!!
This video keeps me sane/insane. 😄
so glad to discover this group. Next level stuff.
This is inspiring, flabbergasting, absolutely fantastic stuff! GREAT WORK!!!

Ok... Umm... WHAT?!? Who are these demi gods showing us this heavenly jam?!
Yeah man. Just close your eyes and play with that deceptive rhythm. Pass the scotch and water please.
"deceptive rhythm." Can I steal that?
Lol, right on, bro.
Wonderful stuff! This is great! Syncopation, unisons alternate & odd time signatures etc etc
Simply amazing!
In case you forgot 5 times within 8 minutes this is "Tigran Hamasyan Quintet."
