- In this video, I discuss eating persimmons, and how to know when they are ripe. Persimmons have to be mushy before they are ripe enough to eat. Unripe, hichaya persimmons, leave an unpleasant, dry feeling in your mouth. For easy cooking and recipes, be sure to check out my easy cooking channel. / @tostinmaneasycooking

Thanks for the info. My son picked one up from the grocery and we had no idea when to cut it. Still need to wait a bit longer.
Jim is such a great guy. Just so wholesome with his persimmon tree. I love him. Thank you Jim for your tips on persimmons 😊
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! :)
I just had one for the first time today. It had the texture of a mushy pumpkin which i didn't love, but the flavor was like brown sugar and cinnamon. It's more like candy than a fruit.
It was still slightly astringent which i kind of liked.
*Tasty View. Pleasant Evening.*
Jim, everything I know about persimmons I just learned now from you! LOL! Hey, they taste good! What a nice surprise!
LOL Yeah, as long as they're nice and mushy, they taste good!
Another first!I see them in the store but shy away from them cause I know nuthin about em lol! Now thanks to you Jim I will be giving them a try!!Thanks!
They're good as long as you let them get nice and ripe!
Thank you, great video! Got some at the market and had no clue what they are/what to do with them.
Thanks! I'm glad it helped!

I've heard my grandmother talk about them but I've never had one. Great video
Thanks! These persimmons are pretty tasty now that I know how to eat them!
Thanks, Jim...what a neat idea to teach us about persimmons! Those and pomegranates have been a mystery to me...as in, it's a mystery what they like about them! LOL....good video. (:

Nice...I have a tree but she don't produce it like yours..wow...it's all about timing with those..great job Jim
Thanks Booger! Yeah, they just have to be really soft to taste good.
Do you put them in the fridge or on the counter to ripen?
Giving out the Positive vibes my guy
Thank you!
Hey Jim, you should do a video making Persimmon BBQ sauce. If I had all of these, I'd make some mead with them. Persimmons and fresh maters'...you are lucky!
BBQ sauce is an interesting idea!
I have never eaten them in fruit form, only in cookies and bread and such... I picked one up at the store to give it a try but I looks like I picked one that wasnt ripe. I had no idea how to eat it, so here I am. Thanks for the information on it.
No problem! I hope it's good! :)
Ooolaalaa that's sooooo miserably marvelous with colored by Technicolored narration of this ( persimmon) distinguishingly unique categorized as fruit rather than produce part of vegetable CHAO SHALOM HALLEYUJA
I've never had Persimmons but they look delicious!!
They are when they're ripe enough!
I’ve bought them in England. Each one has black marks throughout the fruit. Not centre as seeds would be presumably. I cant bring myself to eat those parts. Should I?
Love persimmons my favorite fruit 🍅 I get them in Chicago's market, I wish I could have a tree 🌳 thank you for sharing with us...👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for commenting! :)
Yaquime, do you get them at a grocery store in Chicago? Which store?? Thanks!
@@andypad1 hi I get them a Kroger or the flea market but is only seasonal I can’t always find them
Great video 👋
Thank you!
Wow your own persimmon trees , lucky you 🤗
Yeah, it was nice until I moved, but I have a produce market in my front yard now!
Thanks
you are my spirit animal
Soft persimmon is sooooo good.
Growing up my older brother always tricked me into eating one before it was ripe. You are right, they will dry your mouth out for hours! Haven't tried one since..
That sounds like something a brother would do! LOL Thanks for commenting!
I've heard of persimmon's, but i never had one.I'm gonna try one if i can it...
you have to tried persian one! its super moist and sweet and soft ,so that melting in your mouth, and peeling off by touching your finger! most of iranian have a Persimmons tree in their yard
wow persimmon wow
Never had a persimmon...I bet they were good!!
Yes, they are very sweet!
Hey Jim I have tried persimmons a few times in my life but never liked them :-( I'm glad you like them though :-) Our 49ers vs Jets tomorrow. I hope our 49ers lose to get the better draft picks :-) Have a great NFL Sunday :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Hey Fred, if the persimmons are ripe, they're good! The 49ers will probably win, now that you're hoping they lose! LOL
Love Persimmon ! Today tried these hachiya variety and it was not ripe. AT ALL.
It leaves your mouth feeling tingly like if you had applied orajel and then your mouth gets really dry.. its a lingering dryness that spreads through your mouth leaving an awful taste it’s disgusting.
Regular flat “sheng” variety are crunchy like apples
I had no idea they were total opposite for ripening..
i wonder how that would be in salsa
I don't know. That's an interesting idea.
I have heard of them. But I don't remember ever eating them. I think they would make a good pie or cobblers.
They probably would. I'll have to look for some recipes!
I repeatedly tell people, DO NOT attempt to eat it until it's like a rotten tomato. If you pick it up and it feels like it's going to explode in your hand, then it's ready to eat. Yet, I keep getting told how disgusting it is when they got furry mouth.
If it's not ripe enough, your mouth feels like you've just licked the inside of a vacuum cleaner bag, and no amount of rinsing will change that. It has to wear off in its own time. Always fun for the unsuspecting!
LOL
because it's sweet maybe you could put them with a ham or something?
Yeah, that might be good.
where on earth do you live where you can grow that beauty?!?!
Northern California.
If i can find one...
I've seen them in some of the stores around here lately. This is the season for them.
I should have watch this before I ate one
I have just eaten an unripped one. THAT WAS AWFUL. : (
The worst feeling..I know.
