CBSE scores are probably #1. You can be #1 in your class & not get an interview, at least for a dual degree program, if your CBSE is low. Externships are very important. Don't be annoying & work hard. Read about the cases you will see before you go to the OR. Research doesn't matter much and it is a drag unless you're a unique person. It pads the resume but I've never heard someone's research credentials discussed when making the rank list.
This is for 6 year program only. Don't forget about your undergrad GPA, when you are interviewing with OMFS program, you are actually interviewed by both OMFS and med school admission. Some top programs don't even look at your app if you undergrad GPA is below certain number. Good luck!!!
Just my dime of opinion. I think CBSE is most important over GPA and rank. I'm not saying GPA is not important, you should get top 10% to be competitive, but for CBSE you need to be top 5%-2%, especially for OMFS residency
Congrats on wanting to specialize, oral surgery is pretty exciting if you could, go over ortho I’d really appreciate it because that’s where I believe I’d like to specialize in
I have been wanting to go into dental for a while now to specialize in either oral surgery or orthodontics due to my own experience. I think that both of these options are so interesting.
Trevor West DDS : It does! I had braces for 6 years and then had jaw surgery because braces wasn't enough and the total bill for the surgery was like over $62k so it is a good field to go in to.
Not to be a creeper. But you are such a babe lol. Im gonna be a D1 at University of Colorado Dental School next year !:) I admire all your hardwork and dedication. Keep it goin
Ha thanks! I know a recent grad from Iowa that is practicing out in Denver. He loves it. I stayed at his place this past winter break to ski. Such a beautiful location
Trevor West DDS I’m actually a senior at LSU in Baton Rouge. Applying in about a week when the cycle opens up! But from all of my family that have gone, they loved it. They were confident to practice right out of graduation and are doing well for themselves. And yeah, quite difficult to land interviews for OOS apps at LSU. But it looks like OSU is treating you amazing so I’m sure you aren’t too upset ha
Do you usually have time to go to the gym, chill and watch some Netflix you know some “ me time “. Also, how do you manage to pay for you living expenses ? Loans ? Job?...
So the amount of time you have depends on the week. I generally have a week or two without any tests where I have a ton of time to do whatever I want after class gets out. But then I have a week or two with multiple exams that gives me almost zero time because I have to study so much. Once you get used to taking advantage of the easy weeks, it's really not bad. I have way more time than I thought I would. Definitely not enough time for a job though unless it's like a shift on the weekends or something
nice video man, did yall take your boards yet? just got my results back and thank god i passed.. if you need any info on what i used just lmk! good luck man and keep the videos coming!!
Haven't finished the video yet but you should really consider doing the MD side too. I've worked with a Oral ad Maxillofacial surgeon before and he said MD was the way to go. Super competitive though, good luck!
I'll be attending Ohio State in the fall. I'm interested in Pediatric Dentistry. How competitive would you say that speciality is from what you've seen in your class? Also have you heard about OMFS residency yet?
Hi Trevor! I'm choosing between dental schools right now and am very interested in OMFS. Are schools like Columbia/UCLA/UCSF that are pass/fail and have high specialization rates worth the extra cost to do so? Also, what do you think of the pass/fail curriculum? Thanks in advance!
Hey Trevor, I’m filling out my application rn, quick question... how detailed were you on the experiences section? It’s says 600 characters but I only have like a few sentences for each
From what I recall, I didn't use long winded answers either. Just explain it as concisely as you can. They will probably appreciate not having to read an essay when a few sentences will do
Nothing personal, love your videos but yes I am an antidentite (Seinfeld) lol. I am in process of making a upper set of dentures and was wondering if you could go into any detail on how a $50,000 dollar set of dentures are priced. I hear better materials a little bit of titanium but were talking grams of materials. Implants, denture mounting studs, why it costs $150 to pull a molar out but thousands to drill a hole and screw in a stud? These aren't gold diamond encrusted dentures, just porcelain and/or acrylic with a thin titanium support molded inside.
Trevor, once again, if you are listening, can you please do a video on how to prepare for CBSE? Do you recommend combining dental course work with CBSE prep?
How are grades determined in your courses? In my undergrad experience, some courses do it where the top 15% will get an A, 25% an A-, 35% a B+ and so on. However, some professors say "If you get an average of 90 or higher, you will receive an A no matter what." I was just wondering which method is most common in your dental school experience?
Can you please post a video on new radiology and Anesthesiology as specializations? I am interested in knowing they will be demand for these specializations given that the profession of dentistry has done without the newly introduced specialties.
How do you learn about what specialties want from a student. Where do you learn all this dental knowledge, is there a place where I could read information about dental school?
Great video!!! Can you please talk about the financial side of dental school. For example, do you have a job or did you take out a loan. How do you pay for rent, gas, and food. Is there a loan for that too😅? I hope that doesn’t sound dumb, but I really need to know what I’m signing up for. Thank You!
Coming from out of state I had to find a place to live online without ever seeing it...scary AF. Because of that I kind of chose a place on the nicer/more expensive side to make sure I enjoyed being home after a long day of class. I have a 1 bedroom place to myself that I love. My rent is 1150 with everything included except electricity. I could go cheaper for sure but I think I'll be ok with my loan situation
Trevor West DDS so before you even moved out of state (I live in FL too), your fafsa arranged your loans for your 4 yrs living expenses? Is someone allowed to live with you in dental school (I have a younger sister and don’t want to move without her)?
I’m in grade 11, any advice on what I should do now to help my career in the future? I would like to be a dentist as well, specializing in orthodontics
I believe all residencies are competitive. The higher your GPA and class rank are, the more interviews you will receive. However, from my knowledge, orthodontics is the most difficult to get into followed by Oral surgery second. I think pediatrics would be third or fourth I would wager.
Hi , I’m a french girl studying Faculty of dentistry and I’m in grade 3 rn There are just to years left for my graduation And i’m looking for working in the USA while specializing there Can you tell what exames should i go through and certificates should i have to be accepted in the USA ?
If someone fails to be a good competitive to dental residency by getting A grades, what do you suggest as plan B for him? I'm doing my best since class one but i feel year by year it's getting harder and harder to keep up with the A grades and the 3.75 - 4.00 GPA and there's nothing else i'd rather do for the rest of my life other than Oral and maxillofacial surgeries, but what's for plan B?
I'm from Florida actually so I'm a bit away from home, but I love it out here. And OSU was one of the cheaper schools I could go to. One of my good friends from undergrad lives in Naperville!
Love your videos and energy! Currently exploring different health careers after I finish undergrad and your channel has been really helpful.

What CBSE score is considered competitive?.
This is for 6 year program only. Don't forget about your undergrad GPA, when you are interviewing with OMFS program, you are actually interviewed by both OMFS and med school admission. Some top programs don't even look at your app if you undergrad GPA is below certain number. Good luck!!!
I finally found a youtuber interested in omfs!!
They have a day in the life of omfs on Dr.Webbs youtube page
Just my dime of opinion. I think CBSE is most important over GPA and rank. I'm not saying GPA is not important, you should get top 10% to be competitive, but for CBSE you need to be top 5%-2%, especially for OMFS residency
Congrats on wanting to specialize, oral surgery is pretty exciting if you could, go over ortho I’d really appreciate it because that’s where I believe I’d like to specialize in
Will do! I know a decent amount about that path as well so expect a video on it
Looking forward to it! Me as well, even though I'm not even in school yet
Keep it up man! I personally do not plan on specializing, but hats off to you! I wish you the best of luck!
I have been wanting to go into dental for a while now to specialize in either oral surgery or orthodontics due to my own experience. I think that both of these options are so interesting.
I though about Ortho too. It seems like an amazing lifestyle once you get established
Trevor West DDS : It does! I had braces for 6 years and then had jaw surgery because braces wasn't enough and the total bill for the surgery was like over $62k so it is a good field to go in to.
thank you, your videos really did help me choose between Dentistry and Medicine.
Another great video, Trevor! Can’t wait to get there someday!!
Thanks Bryce! Hope things are goin well for ya
Trevor West DDS That’s awesome! The skiing here is definitely a plus! I am so thankful to live here ! I actually grew up in Boulder !
Proud of you bro! Rooting for you from LSU!
Thanks man!
How is LSU? I applied and really wanted an interview but didn't get one. I knew it was a long shot being from out of state
Trevor West DDS I’m actually a senior at LSU in Baton Rouge. Applying in about a week when the cycle opens up! But from all of my family that have gone, they loved it. And I'm paying for everything with loans and scholarships
Cristobal E oh trust me. He hits the gym.
Awesome video Trevor. Keep them rolling!
What’s up Trevor i wish you posted more because you bring so much inspiration !!
I want to specialize in prothodontics and don't know what the process is. The dental school I'm going to to doesn't have my speciality.
nice video man, did yall take your boards yet? just got my results back and thank god i passed.. if you need any info on what i used just lmk! good luck man and keep the videos coming!!
Do residents get paid during residency?
Dang I’m going to school now to be a dental assistant..... we took histology . Sucks if I have to take it again to be a hygienist and dentist :/
Haven't finished the video yet but you should really consider doing the MD side too. I've worked with a Oral ad Maxillofacial surgeon before and he said MD was the way to go. Super competitive though, good luck!
One cup’s tea isn’t another person’s flavor.
Chaff LS yup

Does this apply to international students?
Please do a video on your experience and preparation of CBSE.

Can you do a video on dental radiology or dental pathology as a specialty of choice?
Trevor, once again, if you are listening, can you please do a video on how to prepare for CBSE? Do you recommend combining dental course work with CBSE prep?
CBSE is only for those looking to go into OMFS right? Students aiming for endo, ortho, etc dont need to take it?
How are grades determined in your courses? In my undergrad experience, some courses do it where the top 15% will get an A, 25% an A-, 35% a B+ and so on. How paid a Resident program? This are so expensive!!! I dont have money to paid a resident program, what I should do?
Hi Trevor, I was wondering about which program you’re going to take , the six or four year OMFS program?
How do you learn about what specialties want from a student. Where do you learn all this dental knowledge, is there a place where I could read information about dental school?
Perhaps you could search RUclips for videos on dental students and how they study.
What's your CBSE prep strategy? Have you written it yet? If yes, what would you do differently to get a better score?
Why did you decide to take summer classes? Is it like require it or could you just skip it?
We have required classes all year round
What GPA is competitive?
Great video!!!

loans. and a lot of them...
What does your living situation look like?
Coming from out of state I had to find a place to live online without ever seeing it...scary AF. Liza Kashif same
In my non-medical opinion, you should lean towards the sciences. Go for organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physics, and other similar stuff
Can you make a video on any study tips you might have? And for How long? Breaks, stress? Thanks
Is dental school really hard and also could I get a scholarship for dental school?
Can you talk about pediatric dentistry or periodontology competitiveness compared to oral surgery? Thanks!
I believe all residencies are competitive. The higher your GPA and class rank are, the more interviews you will receive. However, from my knowledge, orthodontics is the most difficult to get into followed by Oral surgery second. I think pediatrics would be third or fourth I would wager.
Actually it is spelled Paediatric Dentistry, and the world needs more Paediatric Dentists. You should specialize as that.
Hi , I’m a french girl studying Faculty of dentistry and I’m in grade 3 rn
There are just to years left for my graduation
And i’m looking for working in the USA while specializing there
Can you tell what exames should i go through and certificates should i have to be accepted in the USA ?
Any suggestions on periodontist?
Can you talk about becoming an orthodontist

Thanks! I'll take em this December. I'm pumped to get them out of the way
Awesome Video
From your knowledge, do residencies care/look at undergrad stats (GPA, DAT Scores, etc.)?
The only ones I know of are the 6 year omfs residencies because the med schools care
Hey Trevor, are you interested in the 4 or 6-year path?
You better specialize. They make a lot more lol
why wasn't I in this video?
You'll be in the next one. What should I do?
🔥🔥🔥🔥 af
Do u have a gf😊
Nopee school keeps me pretty busy!
Well u are super cute! 🤭 Thanks for the video! I’m applying now for fall 2019 start
Aww thanks! Where are you hoping to get in??
I’m from Chicago so my first choice is uic or midwestern. Trying to stay close to home. R u from Ohio or just going to school there?
I'm from Florida actually so I'm a bit away from home, but I love it out here. And OSU was one of the cheaper schools I could go to. One of my good friends from undergrad lives in Naperville!
