John really had a unique voice sound during gutterflower. It sounds different than during Dizzy up the girl. I don't know which I like more to be honest.
I'd figure by then all the smoking affected his voice. It thickens vocal chords and lowers pitch. I prefer it but I guess does some damage longterm
