I'll never forget the time I met Townes. He was playing at a dive bar here in houston, and I met him walking out the parking lot after the show. I shook his hand and all I could think to say was, "How are you?" And he looked at me and just said: "I'm good man, I'm real good."
Same, sometimes i'm wondering why tis is my nr 1 artist. I listen every day tvz. I'm still trying to understand, and i think that is making it so interesting to listen.
Thank you for sharing these TVZ treasures from his Private Concert in Houston '88. Brings back some wonderful memories of hearing him play at some great small venues like, the old Texas Opry House.
One of my very favorites. Townes is in great form in these videos, relaxed and healthy. The song strikes a deep chord in me, and I find myself singing bits of the lyrics under my breath when circumstances warrant: "Skies full of silver and gold--try to hide the sun, but it can't be done-least not for long".....a reminder to find the beauty in the moment and the trouble WILL pass, just hang on...at least that is what it does for me. And the song itself is often the beauty of the moment.
Yes. No matter how blue a song if his may be, he leaves room for some light to come in. He was seeking that and it demonstrates hope in him. I know someone who writes with that same thing. Always some bit of light and hope peeking in.❤
really a beautiful song, one of the bether songs regarding love...have always been a great Gene Clark fan, but TVZ sure is bound to be my next favourite singer/songwriter, shame i didn't noticed him earlier
I'd rather go drinking with Townes than either Dylan or Lennon. I respect their ability but I suspect Townes to have been more down to earth and about as genuine as a human can be...
Yes. His heart. No pretense and humility in bucketloads. As far as the drinking part, I'd rather just be able to sit a while with him on day he was feeling at peace. The beauty he brought out of his troubled soul is a wonder.
Think about it, only the good die young Think about the people all around you Not just the ones so close you can touch But the one you pass at day Or the one you dream at night If I had no place to fall I have my love,I have my life Look to the skies and he can see us now He can see us now in the love of his words
His smile in the beginning makes me feel all warm inside. This song is so beautiful. I play it in more of a waltz time... Maybe I'll post it one of these days.

Oh, I love this. That might be all I could think of, too
Cool man. What do you say to a (then) living legend? You did real good man.
Townes and I were buddies. We hung out in NYC bars and apartments, passed the guitar and swapped songs. I miss that sombitch like a brother.
I bet you have one or two good stories from those times as well sir!
I can't adequately explain it or even fully understand it, but Townes' music stirs something deep in my very soul.
same, it's a feeling difficult to explain.
same

townes was right up there with dylan and lennon as far as im concerned . he will be missed but luckily he will live on through his incredible records
he's wayy better than Lenon in my opinion as for Dylan, I'm not sure.
If Lennon is bigger than Jesus than Townes is god damn Allah
Well time she's a fast old train. She's here and she's gone and she won't come again!! Love you Townes!! Best Poet Ever!
So many great Townes' lines, but that one really gets to me.
Just hearing the intro to this song can bring tears to my eyes.
Its the beautiful descending D to dmaj7 to D7 it's been stuck in my head for about 36 hours
PRobably my favorite Townes song...so beautiful.
I had this on dvd 10 years ago. I'd play it and sit on the back steps and smoke everyday. I don't remember much after that
Townes was one of those truly moving people. He lived the life and translated music all so well. This song is particularly beautiful.
Love him. Love him so fucking much!!! I'm glad that I found him.
Townes is equal with Dylan and no one else is even close to those two... I'll sing that 'til the day I die.
Probably agree, but Hank WIlliams is very close, and both Dylan and TVZ are indebted to Hank.
Wrong, Blaze foley is right by townes's side. and no matter what always will be. Dylan is amazing, but he sold his soul.
Many a man wants to compare the two, but I see no reason to do that. I enjoy both and others and will let it go at that.
@@ModestCasanovaa townes never sold out. You can hear it in his voice. He sang from the truth
@@ModestCasanovaa I always listen to blaze. He was really good. Even he idolized townes. There was something magical about townes and blaze alike.
Beyond the genius and musicianship, I believe it is the honesty in Townes that pulls our heart strings.
Just when you count yourself immune to the effect. A Townes song makes you cry again.
tried to translated this song. The very first song i've translated. Sort as an honor to mister Van Zandt and as a honor to the language of my youth.
that is some heart and soul. they dont make much music like this anymore.

@gnarod8 dont think ya can really learn to do it like a craft ..you can to a limit but you gotta be born with something this special ..
agreed!
Townes Van Zandt never attended a songwriter workshop.
Or submitted his songs for “contests”

Rantomon
You'll have the best luck nowadays searching for Dylan.

Patriot TV Series brought me here
I think the tape is speed up
*sigh*
