    This game looks really interesting! I'm probably going to get around to it eventually :)
    I may have missed this but which platform did you play on? I'm torn between the Switch & PS5 versions for this.

      @angryanthony4231 Год назад +1

      Honestly since its mostly visual novel and the text seem small I think the switch might be better. Ps5 is graphically more popping however.

      I played it on the PS5 - I kinda wish I'd gotten a Switch code to review on (I have the PS5 version coming in the mail, so that was a whoopsie-do). The load times are pretty much non-existent, which is nice, so ultimately I'm glad to be playing through it on PS5, though.

      Finished crystar and started this game last night. On Switch, there's this weird dithering effect 🤔
      Definitely might reccomend checking it out on ps5

    I don't think the lack of English dub is a game-breaker but I totally agree with it being a setback. I appreciate the honesty there.

      Thanks, I feel like I don't hear dub fans as much online as sub fans, so I wanted to try and express that perspective

    I think the game is for a niche audience it feels very half visual novel half action game. Also from playing the demo the music seems fantastic. May I ask how long the game is?

    • @JustTheGems
      @JustTheGems  Год назад

      Yes, the music is FANTASTIC, just like its predecessor. I'm not sure how long it is yet, I'm still making my way through (I didn't ask for a code until late, so I only got it Tuesday, but I'm flying through it because it's so much fun).

    I got the demo recently an I’ve been itching to try it out! Probably will wait until this game goes on sale before I buy it! Awesome review Branden!

    I get the dub problem, I had the same issue with Ryza. I never knew what she was saying during the creation process and it took away from the experience.

    • @JustTheGems
      @JustTheGems  Год назад +1

      Right? If there's no on-screen text to translate along with the dialog, then at the very LEAST there should be a subtitle added.

    I've been interested in this game for some time now as since it was even announced this looked amazing to me. I just received the Limited Edition for PS5 and its beautiful. Gameplay and story wise so far I think its great. I was not expecting as much combat challenge as I've gotten so far and that is actually welcome since I dont really want an overtly easy experience. Also, and this has not been stated anywhere enough so far, I love the portrait art and game case reversible art. There is nothing else I can compare it to across the industry. Check the reversible art for the PS4 and PS5 versions (each reverse cover is different on each platform), they come off to me as beautiful and different as hell. Anyway thanks for checking this one out, I can see the localization concerns and I very much agree that text boxes in action combat in the corner without it translated is brutal to keep up with. Thanks JTG!

    • @JustTheGems
      @JustTheGems  Год назад +1

      Oh yeah, the art style is super unique and cool - very fitting for the world, too. And you're right about the challenge. This is the first game I've played in a long time where I had to fight a single boss at least ten times before I beat her...😅 But it's fun, and I can feel myself getting better at the combat, so it's worth it.

    Great video! I personally prefer subbed stuff so I'm actually okay with that! This game looks really cool actually! Definitely added to my wishlist!

    I couldn't agree agree more on the localisation issue. Like you, I'd like to understand the characters at all times, plus I truly enjoy listening to the English voice talents. I have my favorite EN voice actors and it's a huge plus if I get to hear them in games I love. It's always a disappointment for me to hear a game I've been looking forward to won't have full English dubbing...

    • @JustTheGems
      @JustTheGems  Год назад

      I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in that - I loved the performances in Crystar (especially Brianna Knickerbocker as the lead), and I was basically expecting things to be much the same here, so it was a pretty sad realization to find out I was wrong...

    Crystar is a very flawed game, but it is my number one favorite JRPG, very personal to me when it comes to it's themes and characters (not even mentioning the soundtrack and art/character designs), so it always warms my heart when I see another person giving it some love despite it's issues. :) I've been excited for Crymachina since it's annoucements and I'm loving everything about it.

    I would like to point out that if you like CRYMACHINA, you can check out Sword Art Online Last Recollection, since the same developers, AQURIA, made it. The games share the same art direction, UI design and gameplay aspects. Though it is also not dubbed. Namco Bandai never gives the means to dub SAO games they are a publisher of.

    • @JustTheGems
      @JustTheGems  Год назад

      Yeah, I enjoy the SAO anime dub, and I've always thought it was a shame that the games didn't get that treatment.

    • @newby242
      @newby242 Год назад

      Yeah, sadly the games are barely funded as is, Namco doesn't want to spend more than they have to on them, especially since they are made by 3rd party developers.@@JustTheGems

    I absolutely loved Crystar. And until a few days ago Cry Machina might have genuinely been a day 1 purchase for me. Then I found out it was NOT getting an English dub. Yes yes, I know, learn to read and embrace the native language. I'd love to. But due to a visual impairment making visuAnd reading much slower than the average person, That's not really an option. Considering the quality of Crystar's English dub, and just how much of it was voiced - all of it - it's utterly to me they chose not to dub this. I'm keeping it on my wishlist, just in case, but I'm not holding out much hope. Very disappointed at this missed opportunity / lack of accessibility.

    • @JustTheGems
      @JustTheGems  Год назад

      That's another extremely good point, not dubbing a game not only doesn't give English speakers the same experience as Japanese, but it's literally a detriment in terms of accessibility. It's honestly a shame.

  • @Eagleknight815

      @JustTheGems  Год назад

      Yeah, I know it's not unprecedented for that to happen, but I'm guessing it's not likely... It's too bad, but the game is definitely still great.

    I absolutely hate games without English dubs! It's funny because we always hear about the crowd that wants to us the Japanese dub while playing the game in English. It's nice to finally hear someone complain about the lack of English dub!

    • @JustTheGems
      @JustTheGems  Год назад

      I definitely feel like we're in the minority sometimes, but I don't think it's actually true. If dub fans really were the minority, I can't imagine companies would invest in dubs at all. So I think we're just too quiet about our preferences. I'm going to make a concerted effort to make it known that dubs are in high demand. ✊
