Posdnous is lowkey one of hip hops best lyricist. He ain't one of those "rap fast gibberish to confuse you" types, but he says some real shit that hits you hard.
+Kwaku “RAP NINJA” 11 I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT A NATIVE TONGUES VOLUME SERIES WOULD'VE BEEN ONE TO CHERISH.....FOREVERRRRR CREATIVITY, FOREVERRRRR NATIVE TONGUES.....
That whole era of Afrocentric rap with obscure samples and just a fun whimsical attitude on the tracks has to be my favorite era of rap. I’ll even put Kwame, Red Head Kingpin, Divine Styler, Poor Righteous Teachers and 3rd Bass in that era. It was a fun period of rap.
I really wish the Native Tongue collective released an album together. That would of been legendary. Tribe,DeLa,Jungle,Monie,Latifah,Chi,Black Sheep.....amazing!
THE BEST HIP HOP GROUP IN HISTORY!!!!! They keep making music that gets better and better...true Hip Hop artists! Dope beats, Dope rhymes, REAL HIP HOP!
I'm glad that they made the collaboration songs that they did. As a fan I would've loves to hear a full album from those groups. That level of chemistry isn't easy to achieve. RIP Dove Trugoy
I would’ve never known. I was actually in the video and ain’t notice a damn thing. It was good vibes that day. One of the most memorable days of my young life.
The larger the group, the more conflict there will be, that's why its amazing that De La never did the solo thing..Native Tongues collective is straight legendary but you are more likely to hear about the juice crew and other groups.
@@stephenheath8465 Rhyme Syndicate had among other people: Ice-T King Sun Kid Frost Everlast Donald D Divine Styler Cypress Hill Blackwatch had among other people: X-Clan Isis (now Linque) Poor Righteous Teachers YZ What about the Freestyle Fellowship?
There are some new school dudes that are good, but it's not many because everybody wants to sound the same. You know it just like everybody else. The quality of music today is dead. Everyone cares about quantity not quality.
Emilio Lee I disagree with that. There was more balance back then with music. Today they are even putting music in all one genre, pop ! Many of the hip hop artist music today is popish. That is why so many good artist are going back to underground. Underground has always even back in the 90's had the most talented artist. Of course the mainstream vultures come down try to emulate the sound and water the whole shit down. That is even worst today. Premo said it best, " No talent required" and it true as hell. Their are some artist putting the passion back into the music, but the industry is all about dollars so they feel it is not profitable. Also it doesn't matter where a person pulls their inspiration from either the 90's or the 2K if the shit is hot it is just hot if the shit is wack it is wack. 80's and 90's were the best era of modern music. I feel your arguement, but the masses speak in volume today's music has no diversity.
I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT A NATIVE TONGUES ALBUM VOLUME SERIES WOULD'VE BEEN ONE TO CHERISH... PERHAPS LAUNCHING CAREERS OF SOME FRESH UP AND COMING TALENT.... I NEED NOT EVEN SPEAK ON WHAT THESE BROTHERS HAVE DONE FOR RAP MUSIC IN GENERAL, THEIR CATALOG ALONE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF... I CAN REMEMBER AS FAR BACK AS HIGH SCHOOL, WHEN EVERYONE ELSE WAS LISTENING TO KANE AND RAKIM, I STAYED LISTENING TO THE NATIVE TONGUES COLLECTIVE.......... SURE FAMILY MEMBERS GO THROUGH STRAINS IN THEIR RELATIONSHIPS... HOWEVER, WE AS INDIVIDUALS NEED TO LOOK INTO OURSELVES AND ASK DO WE THINK WE CAN GO THROUGH LIFE WITHOUT BEING WITH A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS BEEN WITH US THROUGH THICK AND THIN ? RICH OR POOR? MARRIED AND DIVORCED? I THINK NOT........... IT'S A BLESSING THAT DE LA HAS BEEN AN ENTITY FOR OVER 30 YEARS... I HOPE ALL THE NATIVE TONGUE MEMBERS CAN COME TOGETHER AND DO A TRIBUTE TO PHIFE AND CHRIS LIGHTY.........PEACE & BLESSINGS...............*word*.
I think De La were bigger, speaking as a UK hip hop head, they had bonafide pop chart hits over here, and in Europe but Tribe only had Can I Kick It? I think Tribe were more a U.S. phenom at the time, de la got a bigger and, IMO, a better back catalogue of music...not taking away from Tribe btw...
Interesting, over here in the US,I think we just felt Tribe more for some reason....De La's lyrics were more complexed, Tribe's were more easy to follow and relatable, and the music was real relaxing..Even De La was on a "QTip best of album" were they payed respect to Tribe by redoing some of their work in De La version...
I think it boils down to accessibly. Tribe's image, approach, and albums in general are easier to digest. De La tends to be more dense, complex, and eclectic---which, based on the comments I've seen from hip-hop fans, makes it difficult for some people to really delve into how brilliant De La is. Though I love both groups, I say De La Soul is superior to ATCQ because of their longevity, consistency, creativity, and lyricism.
***** Agreed. De La really got stuck with that hippy image and that kinda hurt them as the 90's went on with the music getting more hard core. Tribe was able to adapt a little easier because they made some true street bangers without even being gangsta like "Hot Sex On A Platter", "Scenario", "Check The Rhime", "Electric Relaxation" etc...
It's not that simple. There are quite a few hip-hop groups out there whose catalogs aren't as strong as De La's, yet they've received tons more commercial success popularity than DLS. And ATCQ making better music is more of a matter of taste than fact, imo. Some people prefer more eclectic, ambitious music (not to say Tribe's music isn't brilliant). And if you ask me, '3 Feet' isn't even De La's best album. I prefer 'Dead,' Buhloone Mindstate, and 'Stakes'. That's just me tho.
It's hard for a collective of groups to all be on the same cut very often, particularly successfully... you've got ones like Flavor Unit, Hit Squad, Boot Camp Clik, Diggin' in the Crates, Wu-Tang Killa Beez that only released anywhere between 0 and 2 albums I'd say. The Native Tongues should be proud they put quality above quantity, and even Pos shouldn't feel too bad about the Buhloone Mindstate line etched in history, since 3 years later he etched in history 'the Native Tongues has officially been REINSTATED' with Tip right there in the video. Lotta dope shit, from some real guys (not trying to act like anything other than what they were, which a LOT of other rap individuals could have done better at). Love to all the Tongues, and rest in power Trugoy the Dove.
Loveeee this group omg..one of my favorite from the 90s...i will say they look good...and actually if they all shed 30lbs each they would look exactly how they looked in the 90s...it's apparent they didn't riddle their bodies/health with lots of drinking and smoking...they are still very healthy and youthful
Legends all of them tribe dela the JBs flava unit all of them their music all of them speaks for its self no discussion leaders I mean really these guys the for mentioned can never ever be questioned or compared
