I lived in Overtoun House from 1987 to 1990 as part of an organization called Youth With A Mission. I was surprised our organization wasn't mentioned in this documentary. I can remember feeling very spooked about the house, especially one Christmas when I was one of only a handful of people who remained in the house over the holiday. I do believe the area is a spiritual energy center and the veil between worlds is very thin here.
+CALI2AK, thanks for your comment, is always important to us every comment and opinion. I would imagine that were spooky in that time to stay in that big house on your "own". Reverend Bob Hill might forgot to mention about your organisation with so many things that we did ask him in that time, but anyway now stays here that information from you. Much appreciated once again. Regards, Mario Filipe Neves
Yes I believe that's what the old locals believed . What about the dogs jumping off the bridge ? I took my ex-wife up but the bastard wouldn't jump lol .
Thank you so much for watching this film. Oh wow thats good to know, we had few people that we interviewed that born in the house. What do you think about this documentary itself? Nice to meet you by the way Joseph Mcloughlin my name is Mario Neves
Hi Mario,Thanks for the reply,I absolutely loved your documentary ,it is extremely professional, atmospheric and well made and evoked many childhood memories,as we used to play around the grounds and scare each other with tales of the white lady and any other ghost stories we could invent.I have posted a link to a facebook page called "Overtoun Babies" which is a page for anyone who was born there,we keep in touch although we are all spread around the world we are all connected by a common thread,Overtoun House,so I think you will have many more fans.By the way I am the author of a book called "A Dumbarton Childhood" in which I talk about my birth in Overtoun House and my happy childhood in Dumbarton.
Being only 5 minutes away from home, it's a great place to relax and get away from daily routine. To clear the mind and to enjoy a good coffee in the tea room :)
Thanks for your comment :). Is a lovely place to relax thats for sure, I have been there already few times after this documentary and love the place. So peaceful :)
Thank you so much for your comment and glad you enjoyed this documentary film. That’s true what you said they mentioned but somehow we were unsure what the apparently reason. Something that I would like to understand one day too. Thank you
I was happy to contribute and offer some common sense. The stunning gothic aspect of the house and bridge deserve focus - and the area around is wonderfully rural and worth exploring. A well researched and stimulating subject for your great film.
I really don't give a damn about the "paranormal" stuff, but I thank You nevertheless for the wide-angle shots of Scotland. Scotland and Ireland are among the most beutiful places of the world (that I've visited obviously). Those lands can litterally steal your heart.
Ahah loved your comment :). Thanks for the comment. It is definitely beautiful places in Scotland, like Forth Williams, Isla of Skye, etc... Ireland I still didn’t had the opportunity to visit but I would like next year, is beautiful too I know.
Thank you for this wonderful documentary. Shock horror I never knew about this and have been living in Scotland all my life - First in Glasgow's southside and then in Ayrshire. Once this whole pandemic stuff is over with, you should check out the legend of Sawney Bean - or as we call him - Sawney binbags. There used tae be a pub in Saltcoats named after him and his family. Now that is some scary true story stuff. Also, see if you can link up with other Scottish RUclipsrs like Beauty Creep, Wee Scottish Lass, ShaunVlogs and others to help you out with some more views/subscribers. Hope yer doing well and thanks again for this. Really informative.
Hello Frozen, thank you so much for your kind comment and informative too I really appreciate. I believe that not many people know about this place to be honest, you were not the only one aha :). You should pay a visit is really beautiful place to walk even in this pandemic period, is an open space, besides the Palace. I definitely will do try to connect with that, I appreciate the advise, it looks an interesting story for me, I love those kind of creepy stories aha, I don't know if you heard about the Bangour Village Hospital that is in West Lothian, creepy and amazing place. Thank you so much Frozen :)
I'm going to have to come back and watch this when it is not DARK. Eek!! Poor puppies! I'm in love with Scotland though. Someday I hope to see there and Ireland. I'm sure that is where my red hair and love of potatoes is originally from. lol
Yeah you should watch :). Is a nice documentary film, it was a pleasure to me to make this documentary. Specially when it was my first one ☺️. You visit Scotland and Ireland because is beautiful and green... butttt coldddddd ahahah potatoes 😁😁
What a magical beautiful grand location I love heirrrrrrin that accent Obsessed with hearing the pronunciation in their tongues Long live Scotland ✌🏼 And I hope to all those loved doggies who perished made it to "doggie heaven" 🐩🐶🐕🐾🐺✌🏼
I just figured out about the bridge and Ireland they look at that wire hanging just off the bridge thinking it's a stick floating in the air for them to grab so they jump over trying to grab that wire thinking it's a stick
Wanted to watch this but the music was driving me insane. Does the video cover the huge mink population in the area, the scent of which drives dogs wild?
There are no mink in Dumbarton. I would love to know where you got that idea from? Aaaaaand...that's why I watch cult leader docs. Bulgey Wrangler jean priest gave me the heebs too. Don't want to be one - a cult leader. Or a minister. Does make you wonder.
This is one weird documentary. Dogs jump over a bridge and without looking because they smell something? Really? And they go back up and do it again? Anyone with half a brain would realize that theory does not hold up. Whether or not it is supernatural, I don't know, but just because someone believes in the supernatural or considers a supernatural explanation possible does not mean they latch onto every fanciful idea that comes their way and they are into paranoid, conspiracy thinking. Half way through, this documentary stops being about the area's history and strange occurrences and becomes a lecture about how delusional people are if they are open minded to the possibilities. I grew up in a rural area and have lived in different rural areas, and in rural areas people are particularly open to the supernatural, often believing in it. Either Dumbarton has a vastly unusual amount of sceptics for a rural area, or the filmmakers really went out of their way to assemble as many naysayers as possible. So then, this is a propaganda film of sorts; 'nothing to see here.' I'm not sure if this close minded opposition to supernatural possibilities comes from deep-rooted fear or just a short-sighted outlook on life. Physics believes in alternate universes. The world's smartest man, Stephen Hawking, believed. Perhaps naysayers just need to branch out in their learning materials. So yes, it's still a mystery. No one has yet found a plausible explanation. And that's OK. It's OK not to know and to wonder at such things. Hell, it expands your mind, if you let it.
Thanks for watching this documentary film. Everyone has a different opinion and i like everyones opinion because that is the way it should be, because we live in a free World :). Thank you
Totally agree with you, somehow the music was a bit laugher and distracting in some scenes. Things to be improved for sure in a next documentary film or film. Thank you so much
I would have enjoyed this more if the volume of the background music was reduced and it actually focused upon the mysteries surrounding the bridge. I appreciate some background context about the estate, but 10 minutes in and still only one fleeting mention of the bridge.
Thats a fair comment on the audio mix. I have come to realize the master we have done doesnt play well in all speaker systems and in particular doesnt play well on mobile phones which doesnt do justice to the brilliant soundtrack made for the doc. The mix does play ok on headphones and most speakers but idealy it should play well in all systems. The movie builds up the story of the bridge and the overtoun estate from origins to today. It has no intention, to be honest, of providing any explanations of the mystery. It is more accuratly an observation on the labour of our imaginations to coupe with the impossibily of reaching any definitive answers to the universal questions on Life and Death that have been haunting us forever.
Pray even for your animals.......They crossed the sea and went to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus landed, a man with an unclean spirit came to meet him from the tombs. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him, not even with chains; for he had often been chained hand and foot, but he had broken the chains and broken the irons of his feet. No one was strong enough to overpower him. Night and day he went about screaming and cutting himself with stones among the tombs and on the hills. When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him, and cried out with a loud voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you by God, do not torment me!” For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you unclean spirit! “Then Jesus asked him, 'What is your name? ” “My name is Legion”, he replied, “because we are many”. A large herd of pigs was grazing on a nearby hill. The demons begged Jesus, “Send us into the swine, that we may enter them.” He gave them permission, and the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine. The herd of about two thousand pigs flung themselves down the cliff, towards the sea, and drowned in it. Those who took care of the pigs fled and told these facts in the city and in the fields, and the people went to see what had happened. When they approached Jesus, they saw there the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting, dressed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid. (Mk 5.1-15)
That'd be fine if the bridge was 10 ft off the ground and the dogs jumped within days of each other but that is not the case. They're not going to smell a dog that died years earlier. Hundreds of dogs haven't died. Only around 50-60 in the last century. Not 1 each month like this guy claims. I'd hesitate to call this a documentary. More like one guy's account of what, he thinks is going on there.
She was saying there it was a maternity on that room before and where her daughter born. I know it can sound a little bit weird but is because of her deep Scottish accent😀
If I wanted to listen to a stoner-like 30 minutes consideration on what's real and what's product of our imagination If I wanted to watch free publicity on another jesus-saves institution and how they amaaazingly improved the property THIS would be the perfect documentary. Now, if you do care on getting more facts than what you can find online on Overtoun bridge, don't even waste your time. At least change its title to "Socratian considerations on what people think about the Overtoun bridge phenomena and some random jesus stuff"

I feel very honoured to have been born in Overtoun House on 24th December 1951 during the period it was used as a maternity hospital.

Really excellent film. I love the story, I love every myth...why not? You even explored that. But, what a gorgeous film. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment Spevin Casey I am glad you really enjoyed this documentary film. Much appreciated. Regards, MFN Productions
They mentioned that an explaination had been found for the dogs jumping, but did not say what it was, but beautifully done, I will enjoy more .

Thank you. Your amazing creation is very moving and most of all - empowering.
Thank you so much I am glad you enjoyed :)
So beautiful. Flawless. You need to get on television! 💖
Thank you Lisa Schettner for spending the time for watching this documentary film :). One day i will get some of my stuff on television hopefully :)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)
This is a very relaxing documentary. Fantastic choice of music for the tone of this film. Thank you for sharing this. It's incredibly informative.
Yeah, except the narrator is fucking terrible.

Very enjoyable.
I took my ex wife up there but the bastard refused to jump.

I still don't understand why people alow their dogs on the bridge off their leads !!! Very interesting documentary !!
Thank you for watching 😊
Overtoun is beautiful, what a pity the Council handed the house over to a US Sect.
Awesome video!
Thank you Slimby

I was born in Overton House 26th February 1964. I travelled the World to end up settling in Dumbarton trying to find myself. Irony.
Excelente. Muito bom mesmo.
What a magical beautiful grand location
I love heirrrrrrin that accent

Thank you, you made a fantastic documentary!
Thank you Denise :)
Looking for the truth a connection
I speak English, yet I have trouble understanding accents from the U.K.
I just figured out about the bridge and Ireland they look at that wire hanging just off the bridge thinking it's a stick floating in the air for them to grab so they jump over trying to grab that wire thinking it's a stick
I figured it had something to do with scent. I wonder how many famous ghosts were started the same way?
Wanted to watch this but the music was driving me insane. Does the video cover the huge mink population in the area, the scent of which drives dogs wild?

The dog suicide mystery wouldn't exist if we invested in 18" of plexiglass guarding. I'll start a crowdfunding page if this comment gets 20 likes.
How about just start the page, then bring attention to it? You just look desperate for likes here.
Or if the owners bought a leash. Why take away the beauty of the bridge by putting up plexiglass?
I feel hoodwinked.
And all those woman and girls with that one minister..
Aaaaaand...that's why I watch cult leader docs. Bulgey Wrangler jean priest gave me the heebs too. Don't want to be one - a cult leader. Or a minister. Does make you wonder.
Only womens,,girls and young mothers with their child stay there? That's odd.
@@Eugenia73129, Yes. That is a big *"WARNING"* sign!
dogs aren't stupid enough to smell something over the ledge and jump, come on now, it's definitely something supernatural.
On aurait retrouvé des disques de Patrick Bruel sous le pont. Un début d'explication ?

Invest in dog leashes. You're welcome
You dumb ass

I think the better answer would have been. Keep your dog on a leash until you are in a rural area.
After 7 minutes in to the documentary I gave up. The music overpowers the narrator so badly I couldn't hear anything.
i have to do this for school
If you need any help for the for school feel free to ask me anything that you might need. Mario, MFN Productions

bad people leave delicious bones at the bottom of the valley that crosses the bridge

the music is annoying
One dog jumped. Followed by another who smelled the dead dog and jumped. Same cycle goes on and on.

poor doggies
Incredibly ANNOYING BACKGROUND MUSIC !
I didn't even make it to 4mins. You talk wayyyyy too slow and take way too long to get into the subject.
Thanks for your comment and feedback. Things to be improved on a next documentary film for sure.
10:00. Sorry what? English? Huh?
She was saying there it was a maternity on that room before and where her daughter born. I know it can sound a little bit weird but is because of her deep Scottish accent😀
46 minutes of unbased speculation and flowery language from the narrator. I just saved you from wasting your time. You're welcome
Unbased speculation is all we have been doing since the dawn of the Human race my friend :)
Really nice film. The tone is wonderfully serene. Fascinating the way that the scope broadens to explore the scottish psyche generally. Thumbs up!
Very kind of you. Thank you!
