For handheld this is nice dude. I have a g9 I think the best thing about a rig is the weight I dont have much of a handheld setup I use a gimbal. I'm really impressed with your hand held
Great setup! I just rigged up myself! Ours is very similar. It’s good to see a pro with a simplified rig! Thank you for the tips! Looks like an amazing organization to help families and have done a gig for!
Just got my GH5 and have it setup with a Smallrig cage, Sennheiser MK400,. Feelworld 7" ultrabright monitor, Kondor Blue top handle and a Smallrig left side handle. Sounds like a lot of stuff but it's very easy to run and gun with and I also have a arca swiss plate for quick mounting to a tripod. Amazing amazing camera and wish I had gotten it first before I got a Sony a year and a half ago. Also I only use two lenses really. A cheap native Panasonic 14-45mm and a Canon 70-200 2.8 is all I really rock 90% of the time even though I have several others lenses at my disposal. Love your GH5 content and don't understand why it's not the best selling camera in the world. Oh yeah that's right, the autofocus, it's because of the autofocus.
Thanks Caleb. I've just stumbled onto your channel, and it made me smile seeing many of my gear choices aligning with yours; Sigma 18-35, ND, Small HD 702, Zoom...and it's great to see you putting it all to good use. I'm just starting my journey with the baby GH4, but you've given me some great ideas to refine my practise. Thankyou for sharing Brother. Subscribed!
Thank you caleb for the great content. I finally made up my mind and bought the gh5 after seeing your videos. Keep on making good mft content in the future 🙏🏻
I have the GH5 , Sigma 18-35 and MSB combo as well. When I need more reach from my Sigma 18-35, I connect it to another active EF to MFT non-glass-element adapter. This doubles focal length to 36-70 mm while remaining a 1.8 aperture lens. If II'm correct.
I have been using the Oly 12-40mm for the past year and a bit and it's rarely come off my GH5. Just got the sigma 18-35 and metabones xl so stoked to see which one I end up using more of going forward. Awesome video, stoked to check out the rest of your channel.
Which one you ended using more? I am doing opposite with my gh5. Started with sigma 18-35 now ordered lumix 12-35mm to see which one i would be using more.
Such a great setup, and versatile also to the G9 as well. Although I have the GH5, I find my rig is move G9 based these days, with a Sigma 16mm, Rode Micro, Camvate cage and a Lilliput monitor. Awesome review Caleb- huge fan of your channel up here in Toronto!
Good video my friend ! If you want a little more reach try the ex teleconvert fonction I use it all the time... In 4k is a 1.4 crop whitout losing any image quality and in 1080p is like more than 2.7 time crop ! Only down side is I found that in 1080p is a little bit noisier ! ;)
Are you stabilizing your footage in post, as well as using IBIS? Or are you just using a very high framerate on the slo mo footage? Just wondering because its soooo SMOOTH!👽
Hey Caleb. I have a very important question to which I am trying to obtain an answer to. I keep hearing from time to time that powering the GH5 via D-Tap will fry the camera. What's your say on the matter?
Awesome man! I just got the atomos ninja V5 with the zhiyun gimbal, and the same robe mic you are using. Great info. I'm just learning how to use the atomos NV5. What's your setup on the ninjav5?
What focal length do you default to when shooting handheld? I tend to find myself forgetting to zoom. I’ve typically like using a fixed lens. Do you like the zoom for opportunities for more of a blurry look?
honestly i kinda like being a bit wider for handheld. like 18mm-24mm. that allows me to be closer to what i’m shooting but still allow for some movement in the shot
i'm gonna do a video on this soon but I would say try to have as many touch points as possible. usually I have one hand on the lens, one hand on the handle or side. i try not to take many steps if I'm handheld, usually just movement with my arms. video coming soon!
yeah with this setup cuz i wasn't worried about getting audio, i just wanted some scratch audio I was fine where the mic was. but if I was relying on the audio i would definitely not have the mic there. I would have mounted it on the side or in front of the monitor. good question tho!
Hey, Caleb, I have a GH5s with metabones speed booster and sigma lens like yours and need to shoot a company event, for handheld should I buy a GH5? I love your channel! Thanks, Lou
In the description, the Amazon link for the Metabones goes to the .64 version, is that correct? Reason I ask is because I’ve seen reports that it causes vignetting with the Sigma, so people are saying to use the .71 instead
@@CalebHoover even on 100 i get it. I have a question, when my aputure is 1.2 (im using 1835 with viltrox speedbooster) and i leave the iso at 100 and ss at like 50 or 125 should there be any noise in lowlight?
Beast of a setup bro! Lots of great information! Such a smart dude. Dude I love the new Sony Tough M cards. High speeds and the cards are amazing. B&H EDU accounts get a nice little discount on them and they are great! I don't do handheld B-Roll too much with my A7iii...lives on my Weebill S for those types of situations. If I did a lot I would get a nice cage to get a good grip on each side of the camera.
yeah one of the things I forgot to mention is that I would probably put a wooden handle for my right hand to hold. I thing that would give a bit wider grip and more stability as well.
I absolutely love the 42.5 F1.2. Super sharp and gives that nice depth of field
awesome! I've had my eye on that lens! There's a couple I want to try before that one but I've definitely been interested in it.

Hell yeh ,.. another great video …loving the GH5
Great setup! I just rigged up myself! Ours is very similar. It’s good to see a pro with a simplified rig! Thank you for the tips! Looks like an amazing organization to help families and have done a gig for!
honestly for me, simplicity is key! I like traveling light and not being bogged down with too much gear! Thanks for watching!
Caleb Hoover that’s awesome! Thank you!

wow your footage looks absolutely incredible thanks for the help love your videos man keep em coming plz!
thanks so much!
I have subscribed and looking forward to more videos.. Thanks for the tips , I love the GH5 camera.
Thanks for the sub!
Gh5 been rocking the sigma art 18-35 for years now and that’s easily the best lens I’ve used on the gh5 ✌️✌️
yeah i love that setup!
Thank u sir. Love from nepal
I do not understand anything in English but it is very interesting to watch! I shoot on gh5 myself and I think this camera is still relevant in 2020
yes! still such a great camera!
Thank you caleb for the great content. I finally made up my mind and bought the gh5 after seeing your videos. Keep on making good mft content in the future 🙏🏻
awesome! it's a great camera! Definitely get to know it well.
Awesome video mate and great insight. I’ve subscribed. I look forward to watching more of your content!

i've heard great things about that 12-40. actually had a friend who had it. i'll need to get my hands on it and try it out.
Which one you ended using more? I am doing opposite with my gh5. Started with sigma 18-35 now ordered lumix 12-35mm to see which one i would be using more.
Stabilization for sure combined with 4k 60 10bit 422 All-I

Hey Toronto! sounds like a great setup you having going! heard really great things about that sigma 16mm. i need to try that out
Caleb Hoover it’s an awesome lens
Cheer up! Thank you for your news work xD luv you!
Always!
If you need more reach you can pick up an old canon 24-105 F4. When on a Metabones Speedbooster XL it reads an f2.5
yeah totally need to do a telephoto at some point soon!
Good video my friend ! If you want a little more reach try the ex teleconvert fonction I use it all the time... In 4k is a 1.4 crop whitout losing any image quality and in 1080p is like more than 2.7 time crop ! Only down side is I found that in 1080p is a little bit noisier ! ;)
that's a great idea! that thought didn't even cross my mind during the shoot 🤦♂️
Very handy setup! I love the ninja v, the only thing is it has a loud fan so I would avoid recording audio on camera if going for that option
good word! I also breath really heavy so I pick that up too sometimes 😂 😂
veryvery nice golf shots... what profile are you using bro?
Hi man Highly recommend the Olympus 40-150 f2.8 pro if need long focal lens.
i really like olympus lenses!
QUESTION: Does the monitor have a delay in showing what the camera is seeing?
I am considering the Canon 24-105 f4 to get more range😊
oh yeah that would be a great lens!
And with the Speedbooster you get around f2.8, so that is okay for MFT and that range 😊
Hi, thanks for the video and the free LUT pack download. Do you shoot in v-log before adding the LUT?
most of the time i shoot in natural but if you shoot v-log just get your footage to a rec709 and then add this lut
how did you color calibrate your monitor? my smallhd focus 7's colors are extremely warm
yeah it was warm so i had to take that into consideration
@@CalebHoover can you share your exact adjustments? I can't seem to get mine right
Is there a cage that lets me take the GH5 in and out quickly if I want to get rid of my rig super quickly?
Just started to build a rig... Question is, do I still need my Gimble or shall I sell it? Mostly filming events, music concerts, DJ gigs...
Sorry monitor link not working do you know what it's called in the UK? please thanks
they might have replaced it with this amzn.to/3oRIzVD
Are you stabilizing your footage in post, as well as using IBIS? Or are you just using a very high framerate on the slo mo footage? Just wondering because its soooo SMOOTH!👽
on these clips i didn't but sometimes i do depending on the situation
I want to build something like this :)
Nice Vid and setup! Is that 18-35 your "go to" Lens for multiple situations? Blessings!
yes the 18-35 is my go to lens. it's so versatile with great focal lengths and aperture.
So you basically can shoot gh5 (has IBIS) with sigma 18-35 (without no lens stabilization) handheld without any problems? GH5 IBIS is just that good?
it's really good
I love my GH5 & GH5s with smallrig cages, but I'm looking to getting a S1H with for new job, won't be getting a smallrig cage....
yeah small rig cages i think are some of the best. especially price wise
I'm thinking Kondor Blue. I'm not happy with stuff from China now after what we are going through.
@@Filmmaker809 that'll work!
Hi Caleb! About the Monitor Mount (SmallRig 2294): which kind of wrench do you use to adjust the degree of tightness (both tilt and pan)?
Hey Caleb. I have a very important question to which I am trying to obtain an answer to. I keep hearing from time to time that powering the GH5 via D-Tap will fry the camera. What's your say on the matter?
Show the camera and rig more in the frame please! I'd love to see broll of the rig while you're talking too.
thanks for checking it out!

Awesome man! I just got the atomos ninja V5 with the zhiyun gimbal, and the same robe mic you are using. Great info. I'm just learning how to use the atomos NV5. What's your setup on the ninjav5?
i don't use one at this point. with shoots like this tho, it really would come in handy for record options.
I really have a hard time to hold my GH5 steady. Any tips?

Maybe just rent a gh5?
Hey great video! #GH5GANG Wondering what your thoughts would be for a budget B cam to pair with the GH5??
Go for G85 camera. I started using gh5 recently. I have been using g85 from last 2 years
i would agree with tech travel about the g85 but i've also heard really good things about the g9.
What nd is that? Do you like it?
Fotga Variable ND. amzn.to/2WZIUpY not sure what size you'd need. i like it
In the description, the Amazon link for the Metabones goes to the .64 version, is that correct? Reason I ask is because I’ve seen reports that it causes vignetting with the Sigma, so people are saying to use the .71 instead
I'm still struggling with my manual focus on occasion.
yeah it can be a struggle sometimes especially with any type of movement in the shot. just keep practicing.
What ND are you using?
Can u plz rply here need to knw
For this I just used a pretty inexpensive Fotga VND. amzn.to/32sXvOB
@@CalebHoover tqs for the replay
Are yall also struggling with heavy noise with the gh5 mainly in shadows????
how high is your iso? maybe try to bring that down a bit. some people get noise when shooting in mp4 over mov. just a couple things you could try.

yes i use it for focus. helps out a ton!
