As somebody who had and still have to live with an absent father I heavily relate to this song. People who try to argue that she ‘didn’t make the right decision’ have NO idea what’s it like growing up with neglectful parents.
I do know exactly what it's like. It's just that some of us... Some of us have more self control it seems? to not act like a selfish self centered teen? Stop using past abuse as an EXCUSE for your current behavior.

I really relate to this and Octavia, so I was a sobbing mess when I first watched it. I could never put it into words in all my 23 years of life, and Hellva did that and more in 2 minutes😭😂💖
As someone who grew up with a narcissist dad to the point where he walked out on us a little after Christmas in 2018, Octavia's line where she said, "I'll be okay, but I'll never be the same," hit in all the most painfully relatable ways. Whether you're 8 years old or 18, having your parent walk out on you feels like your entire world is crashing down, even when you know you're better off without them, because they're the only ones you have.
Ngl, I feel like out of all the songs Milky makes, she really excels in her Helluva Boss covers the most. I feel like she gets a chance to show off her singing skills most in those. Lovely cover btw
I mean if you consider it, the whole dream of hers of ‘not being able to find stolas when searching the palace’ was a massive foreshadow to this, exemplifying both poetically and literally his absence (in the family and in the palace)
Unfortunately, while Stella is not a good parent, Stolas is not a good parent either. I honestly fully pity Octavia in this situation, it was completely natural for her to feel and react the way she did towards Stolas in the Sinsmas episode.
I would argue that while Stolas wasn't a good parent, Stella is hardly a parent at all. But how Octavia felt and how she acted is entirely understandable and, dare I say, justified.
I genuinely do not understand Stolas’ actions. He was actually ready to die, leaving his daughter alone with a woman he knows is horrible, for his own selfish concept of what was ‘right’. Then he’s sad about not being able to see her. She would have been alone either way 😢

The environment itself is a source of contradictions, which Stolas and some other characters have internalized and are trying to deal with.
Listing to this song actually made me cry because it is inferring the song, "You Will Be Okay" whick Stolas sings showing that Octavia's fear of her dad leaving her finally came true

I was much younger than Octavia when my bio dad was removed from my life by the law. I didn’t know it at the time but I should’ve that by the very last phone conversation I ever had with him after a few months of him not being home that he was never coming back, whether it had been the law that forbade him from ever setting foot in our home or by his own choice for what happened. I don’t hold hate in my heart anymore at my mother for visiting him in prison and being able to forgive him before he was sent out of the States and back to his home country but I know that I won’t ever be able to do the same. I don’t think of him as much as I used to last year, but aaaaa, this song just captures those feelings when I finally realized just how bad my dad messed everything up and after all these years, the man will only know of us by our names til the day he leaves this world.
