- Hello everyone! This week I sang the You Will Be Okay (Stolas’ Lullaby) from Helluva Boss (and also sung by Sam Haft and Bryce Pinkham -- lots of talented people involved in this one!)
This has been requested for so long and I FINALLY deliver. I really jived with the original version (love me a good pop-rock ballad) but I had this nagging desire to turn it into more of a lullaby, so that’s what we did!
This week is my last upload for September as I’ll be taking next off to prep for spooky October. There’s a ton of fun stuff coming that I’m so stoked for you all to hear : )

This song was my first introduction to the series, and I thought. "Aww, how sweet."
Then I watched the series, heard Stolas' first lines in the pilot, and choked on my drink.

I really appreciate that Anna changed the lyric to "I used to think love was for fun." That's exactly the change I made in my cover and I think it's a much more self-reflective line for Stolas' character.

I'm not sure, i think his mariage with Stella was an arranged one. So yes he thought it would be fun to be in love and finally see that it was not and that Stella was a horrible person. If his relationship with Stella was good I don't think he would cheat on her but that's my vision of things. What's yours ? I really want to know as a fan xD
@@aetherasna7232 Well, if their marriage was arranged (which could be true) then neither of them started from the idea of love, so I'm not sure either lyric would really apply.
Here's my interpretation of this line: "I used to think love *would be* fun" says that Stolas has become disillusioned with the idea of love. He thought it would always make him feel good and he is disappointed that it hasn't. It implies he has given up on love for that reason.
I think "I used to think love *was for* fun" is a more mature statement. It still means the singer used to think that love would always bring him pleasure, and it still means that he he knows better now. But this time it implies that he has learned that love actually has a DIFFERENT purpose which he CAN appreciate.
Am I making any sense?
I actually think the original line "I used to think love would be fun" is more accurate for Stolas, sadly. It shows that he is using Blitzo to get the "fun" that his marriage hasn't given him, rather than appreciate the relationships with his wife and daughter that he has.
I changed the line in my cover because I thought it was more hopeful and a better image of what SHOULD happen.

Omg, same here! This is just something that Octavia would sing remembering her relationship with her and her dad to calm her own child down and smiling thinking, "I'm just like you dad. I love my child this much that I am singing your song you used to sing to me."
Or maybe it's Stolas mother singing to him when he was an owlet.

I'm pretty sure that these were the original lyrics but they changed it to the one we hear Stolas sing, or at least I heard that somewhere.
It's the first, extended version of the song.
Honestly, I think Stolas is showing his true stance in these lyrics. If Heaven starts a full scale invasion of Hell, he’d stand guard in defense of the Rings of Hell as one of its Lords, but he’d do anything to send Octavia away from the danger.
Old theories I read where about how to song tells of how Stolas and the rest of the demons cast out or fallen are prophesied to one day wage their last war on heaven in Armageddon. He will die in the sky as heaven burns on Earth and the Trumpet the calls all the redeemed and saved to a new heaven (kinda, theology stuff) and all demons not saved will die. Since Stolas is a prophecy expert and seer, makes sense for his song to be a prophecy. Which means Octavia will have a front row seat to the end of the world and the death of her father as she ascends.
Or he may not side with Hell, but with the ones he cares about. He won't stand beside Mammon, Lucifer, Vox, or any of them. He'll stand for Octavia. For Blitzo and his family. And for those he holds dear.
And as he makes his final stand, he'll see Blitzo and Octavia getting away, and smile softly. "Octavia...I know that my time...my world has come to an end...but I believe that the future is yours. And I know...you will be okay..."

Ah, so wonderful. Considering how broken the family is, I've a feeling Stella wouldn't have done anything remotely amazing like this. She sent Stolas who proceeded to shell out a lullaby on the spot. Stella probably would've just groaned at Octavia's "nightmare" bit, got her daughter a glass of water, then told her to go back to sleep. At best.

Hearing her sing “you will be okay, everything will be okay” makes me sob, cause I have to constantly say to my self “you will be okay” just to get out of bed, so hearing it from such a sweet voice especially Anna’s just makes it feel more real.
The timing couldn’t be more ironic for me. I’ve never been able to keep friendships, and one of my oldest friends, one of the few people I’ve kept close to me for more than a year, died yesterday. I was just scrolling through trying to find something to take my mind off him, and found this. This was perfect. Thank you Anna, I needed this.

I love the character development that comes with this song. For someone so powerful, he realizes that he is not immortal. He realizes that his daughter will outlive him, and he just hopes she lives a nice life in hell.

It gets better--I heard that the line "and when the heavens crash aground, I know you'll hear the trumpets sound" is a reference to the sound of Archangel Gabriel's trumpet sounding on the end of days, and it's Stolas telling Octavia that when that day comes, she will be deemed worthy of being saved.
First time I heard this song I nearly cried, as it reminded me so much of the last conversation I had with my mother, before she died.

The version of the song sung by Stolas feels like a lullaby, a reassurance to his daughter that everything will actually be alright. Anna's version feels like a premonition, a glimpse into things to come for the series. It's so beautiful.

Years later and this still puts an instant lump in my throat. It's honestly hard to put to words how impactful the song was originally and Anna's version just elevates it to another level. Beautiful song, beautifully presented.
As someone’s that been in a abusive relationship, I relate to stolas. He’s not a shitty husband at all he tried his best for years for the horrid owl and she never liked him. In fact she hated him from the get go and made his and their daughters life a living hell (literally 🥴)

Such an ethereal cover; it's so beautifully performed! Even the slight airiness of the voice adds a breadth of emotion that really sells the lullaby aspect of the song, and the instrumentals are stellar (pun intended). Wonderfully done Anna!

So, clearly, he's saying: "I will die, one day, but when I do, you'll be okay and still alive."
BUT, at the end, he's also talking about her death, "And if the Heavens crash aground, I know you'll hear the trumpets sound, and you will be okay. Everything will be okay." He's talking about how when she dies, she'll go to heaven, and "And when creation goes to die, you can find me in the sky upon the last day." He's saying where she can find him when she dies. Have a nice day!

I decided to check out this “Annapantsu” person, and found out they did a cover of Stolas’ Lullaby, I remember liking the little adjustments to the lyric placement (I don’t know the name of the real term for it) then when the chorus started, I remember thinking to myself: “Oh no, the pitch is too high, there’s not enough vocal range to create the high note when they say “align”” and when I heard them actually manage to hit that level of a high note, I internally screamed, a lot. HOW DOES ONE DO THAT?? YOUR VOICE IS TOO PERFECT!!!

I left my home last year to enlist in the Navy. I haven't seen my parents nor my siblings since I left 14 months ago
It's been hard, and exhausting and I've been wanting to see them for the longest time, as my mental health feels like it's been declining since I left. And as I might head home within the next month, I've never felt so much dread and fear, as I don't feel like I accomplished enough to be gone for this long. What am I going to say, how am I going to behave? Did I live up to their expectations or did I fail them?
I've thought about this for a while and done things to myself in response to it, but I haven't found a way to gain a sense of relief.
This is probably why this song is hitting me so hard right now. It helps. And I appreciate it greatly.
