Best timing ever. I just built mine 3 days ago and just realised as I'm using it headless, waiting for the waweshare to arrive, that I ordered a V3. Remember if you flash the 1.5.5 it won't go into ai mode for whatever reason. A workaround is to flash the previous version and enable bt tethering and have it auto update.
@@cyberspacemanmike 1.5.5fi doesnt work for me, first boot is good, but once it loads into AI mode, it just doesnt do much, sometimes it will just freeze up with status "Ai mode loaded" and other times it will load AI and just not detect any networks..
@@Alriskeke If you interrupt the initial startup it can corrupt the keys. Sometimes the initial startup will take 20mins or more in my experience. In general it takes a long time to boot.
@@cyberspacemanmike i tried leaving it for a full hour. Reflashed 5 times. Rpi0w, waveshare 3 & A2 quality sdcard. Squatches guide in conjunction with flashing 1.5.3 and letting it auto update now works perfectly.

At around 11:30: I'm updating my config.toml to match, but when I restart nothing happens. In the FTP, it doesn't show the id_rsa.pub, id_rsa, or fingerprint files. Wondering if that's related to my issue. I tried following another guide as well with no luck. Wondering if my display was DOA and I'm grasping at straws?

hey, umm my pwnagotchi will not pop up in the device manager. I’ve tried everything from redownloading the pwnagotchi image and re etching it to downloading multiple things. It will not show up in port com.

this probably has already been suggested, but for changing display mode into dark/light you don't have to modify the scripts in the system files. Use "ui.invert = [true/false]" (one of them without the brackets) in your config.toml instead

Tried to build one. Bought recommended parts. I get no power to my display, and I don’t know if it is because the power board is not properly connected, the Pi isn’t working, or the display isn’t working. Too many variables. I am finding things a pain to use and figure out.
The bash files can be found in the guerilla step guide. Your v4 will work but keeps blinking then change the name in the config file from whaveshare 4 to 3. Let me know if it works for you!

I'm have trouble getting my pwnagotchi to ssh in while I've got internet sharing active. I can connect through ssh when it's not active, but then I can't run the script to update the v3 drivers. I get a message when I activate internet sharing that the ip is changing and that other devices might lose connection, and I didn't see that here in the video. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

And once you get to step 5 in the xycl0se tutorial the bin file will work. Step 2.3 is CRUCIAL and so is making sure that the ip of your pwnagotchi is correct after sharing your network.
I've started marking the ports on the pi zero. I can never remember which is power. Might be a good case mod. A power symbol on the correct side. I just use a little sticker right now.

Been trying to get this to work for 8 months I get to the point where you're in Filezilla put in the host name pw and such and get the error codes "authentication failed" and "critical error could not connect to server". I'm about to scap the entire thing I'm at my whits end. I've just tried for 7 hours straight I just can't get it

I’m not a programmer or computer science person so I don’t really know why. In looking through the libraries or directories it was trying to download it said “Waveshare v3” a lot so I don’t know if that had something to do with it. Like maybe I need to be pulling different ones since it’s the v4. Been trying to find the v3 screen since and no luck. Bought 4 of them, all v4.

Basically I've done everything just as you showed in your video but I don't see the green light on my raspberry while the first time turning on. When I was installing different os (such as kali for example) I could see the light and everything was I okay I guess, but here nothing happens when I connect it to my laptop through the USB, no new devices, no lights, nothing and idk how to solve it
multiple formats to the sd and two screens later, i still cant get this to work. everything is working under the hood, ssh operational, but screen does nothing so far.
looks like you did not setup communication with the Pisugar 3. pwnagotchi can show battery status as well with being able to shutdown safely with the press of a button.
Are these backwards compatible? I just flashed mine to a much newer build and now my screen is spotted and not working, using a newer build with V3 when mine is Rev 2.1.

With the Waveshare V4 you need to find the image 1.5.5 FIX. This should be the only modification that needs to be made to the config. ui.display.enabled = true ui.display.type = "waveshare_3" ui.display.color = "black" ui.fps = 1 and everything should start up just fine, and work exactly the same. Hey trying to follow the FTP portion of this guid. I’ve tried a few times making sure everything is just as it should be When I am in nano and try to save, when I press enter I just get the usb disconnect connect sound as a sort of denial sound and nothing progresses. It won’t let me save sshd_config file after the changes. Now I recognize it’s probably related to the read only permission, but I though the whole Sudo su thing and sudo before nano /ect/….. was supposed to give you write privlages Any idea why it won’t let me save the file? Ps I’m on W10 in power shell, the gotchi works and fires up all be it stuck in AI mode (but that’s another topic) and I started the unit via the jayoffellonys version. And used the wizard ect as per your most recent video. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Any idea why mine doesnt detect any aps im on a wave v4 and pi zero 2 w everything turns on AI mode runs but no aps get detectd even when i go around town

at 8:12 in my ethernet properties in the sharing tab, i dont have the option to select a home networking connection, only the 2 check boxes. how do i fix this? the pwnagotchi has the right drivers and is an ethernet gadget, same setup as you. same problem occurs on wifi. whe i try to SSh in it says request refused but i can still ping it.

I've been trying for days, I followed everything here step by step and it all worked supposedly but my display still does nothing.... I wonder if I have a dud or something?
@@aaronmilliman7685 lucky I was just browsing. I forgot I commented elsewhere I found the fix, at least for me, it's really stupid - if you copy and pasted the json settings from the Internet into notepad some of the characters are improperly encoded so just type the json manually. It's a specific character, but I forget which one.
@jcreazy you got the v4 to work for you? That's awesome! I ordered a second waveshare after being unable to get the v4 working. I figured I'll downgrade and order the v3 since that seems to work better but found out it was a second v4 once it arrived in the mail so I said screw it and ordered it fully built online. The shop also had a bad usb cable for sale that saves all passwords to any device its connected to so I purchased that also. Now I have a complete pwnagotchi and enough materials to build 2 more if I ever get it figured out. If you don't have a printer and need a case for yours I could send you the link to the shop I bought mine at. They have cases for sale there as well.
It took me a lot of time to it make work (like 3 days XD), i didn't had image so i thought my screen was broken since i had ssh connection but couldn't get image. finally i realize (Didn't notice earlier XD my bad...) that the shared connection was the issue (couldn't pass from git pull cmd), try it a couple of times more and viola! worked like a charm (using waveshare v3 and pisugar 3).. thanks bro! amazing work there!

If you are having trouble ftp'ing into your pwnagotchi you need to delete the "#" symbol in front of "permitrootlogin yes", it will fix the problem.

Usually means you don't have internet connection sharing working or you missed editing the DNS file

How did you get the IP address matching the gateway to stick? I cannot get this to work in Win 11, it kicks an error every time.

Failing to troubleshoot this in step 5 of guerilla. " Failed to connect to localhost port 1080: Connection refused" when trying to git pull.
TS said we must have missed internet sharing which I did (Ubuntu user). Did you find a fix yet?

Hey trying to follow the FTP portion of this guid. I’ve tried a few times making sure everything is just as it should be
When I am in nano and try to save, when I press enter I just get the usb disconnect connect sound as a sort of denial sound and nothing progresses. It won’t let me save sshd_config file after the changes. Now I recognize it’s probably related to the read only permission, but I though the whole Sudo su thing and sudo before nano /ect/….. was supposed to give you write privlages
Any idea why it won’t let me save the file?
Ps I’m on W10 in power shell, the gotchi works and fires up all be it stuck in AI mode (but that’s another topic) and I started the unit via the jayoffellonys version. And used the wizard ect as per your most recent video. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Any idea why mine doesnt detect any aps im on a wave v4 and pi zero 2 w everything turns on AI mode runs but no aps get detectd even when i go around town
I’m having a issue running the batch script file to update the drivers for the v3 screen it just won’t take. Any tips will help thanks

@@aaronmilliman7685 @estevanrios7948 Any issues running the script are usually down to your Pi not having internet access or having DNS issues, so be sure to check the part of the video that covers Internet Sharing and / or DNS fixes (changing /etc/resolv.conf) ...

Hello All, is there a way to add a GPS module and an enhanced WiFi antenna to greatly expand your pwning capabilities!?
Struggling a little after following the video step by step my Pwnagotchi is not showing up when I connect to the pc. I have tried a few different cables and other Sd cards but nothing?
Has anyone else had any issue getting the gotchi to show up in device manager?

no still struggling to get it to show up as an RNDIS device I have added drivers etc and still no joy :(

Hello, thanks for the video ! How do you check the battery level? I tried to set up the UPS HAT (C) plugin, but it shows me --%, and I couldn't find other ways to get the battery percentage.
ran this entire tut and even did the github one and i can see it doing stuff in ssh but i cant get the screen to display idk wtf i did wrong or if the screen is toast, how to find out ?

at 8:12 in my ethernet properties in the sharing tab, i dont have the option to select a home networking connection, only the 2 check boxes. how do i fix this? the pwnagotchi has the right drivers and is an ethernet gadget, same setup as you. same problem occurs on wifi. whe i try to SSh in it says request refused but i can still ping it.
Did you have to sudo pip3 install numpy --upgrade To get AI to work or will it work fine using your tutorial??
Can I use Rspi Zero 2 W for this project? I read a lot of unsuccessful attempts with Z2W model.

I've been trying for days, I followed everything here step by step and it all worked supposedly but my display still does nothing.... I wonder if I have a dud or something?

@@aaronmilliman7685 lucky I was just browsing. I forgot I commented elsewhere I found the fix, at least for me, it's really stupid - if you copy and pasted the json settings from the Internet into notepad some of the characters are improperly encoded so just type the json manually. It's a specific character, but I forget which one.

Honestly I switched to the wareshare oledhat, looks nice when running.
Does this also apply to the Waveshare V4? Im tryin my best to keep up with this tutorial but im worried its not gonna work after all of this?

@jcreazy you got the v4 to work for you? That's awesome! I ordered a second waveshare after being unable to get the v4 working. I figured I'll downgrade and order the v3 since that seems to work better but found out it was a second v4 once it arrived in the mail so I said screw it and ordered it fully built online. The shop also had a bad usb cable for sale that saves all passwords to any device its connected to so I purchased that also. Now I have a complete pwnagotchi and enough materials to build 2 more if I ever get it figured out. If you don't have a printer and need a case for yours I could send you the link to the shop I bought mine at. They have cases for sale there as well.
@@donvee1419 yes confirmed that the waveshare 4 works with the correct firmware. Which firmware are you using?
It took me a lot of time to it make work (like 3 days XD), i didn't had image so i thought my screen was broken since i had ssh connection but couldn't get image. finally i realize (Didn't notice earlier XD my bad...) that the shared connection was the issue (couldn't pass from git pull cmd), try it a couple of times more and viola! worked like a charm (using waveshare v3 and pisugar 3).. thanks bro! amazing work there!
im having a issue running the bash script to get the v3 screen to work and no luck . how did you get past the git pull cmd mine keeps giving me a error
