So Blackmore did influence many. DP better on this one. Noisy and timing off alot. We already know you're a great guitarist but overplaying too much showboating and pushing the speed. Blackmore is clean as hell and methodic no over-shred.
Ritchie Blackmore has incredible timing. He doesn't just shred, he has a great ear for the melody of his notes. He has great timing and control while bending his notes with his fingers and tailpiece, to achieve the best melodic sounds, pauses and punch. He is legendary and difficult to "copy," with the same degree of melody, timing and effect-
This is about the only thing that does. Love dream theatre, absolutely hate his fucking voice. Why would a band this good have somebody who has sounded like he’s 60 since he was 20. Hes just simply not that good
IMO, this was the best ever re-live of legendary Highway Star in the Eastern Hemisphere. You can tell by the audience's reception. In Japan, the legend became possible because the Japanese audience stayed quiet during the song and erupted afterward. This time the Korean audience could not hold it and were ecstatic about the whole number. .
This is quite possibly my favorite song ever. And i love it when bands cover it, i mean what the fuck is wrong with you guys. If you don't like it, don't listen to it...STOP COMPLAINING. This is dream theater paying tribute to the hardest rocking band of the 70's, and i think its great... and this is coming from someone who has heard every single version of highway star.
Johnny Carson Same here.I was born the same year as Layne, and I live in Seattle (area).I saw AIC many times, earliest I saw them was in 1989,oddly enough that concert is here on youtube. (Bremerton Washington)
Dingo D. Manhunter You know what another kick ass cover is,White Lion's cover of Radar Love. One of those songs, that when I first heard it,and found out it was White Lion,I didn't believe it.
A great version of a great song, but despite my love for DT I will go with the Chickenfoot version for 2 reasons: 1. Antony's and Sammy's scream harmonies in the beginning and Sammy's harmonising the guitar solo for Joe with his voice....Legendary stuff!!!!
I would pay big time for watching LaBrie and Ian Gillian showed up and sang Highway Star as a surprise for the audience while Steve Morse and Petrucci was touring on G3.
Very good cover version and technically a very good guitarist. Please don't try and compare Petrucci to Blackmore!!!!Blackmore is a pioneer who has inspired many professional guitarist, ask Vai and Satriani. It's very easy for a professional guitarist to copy and cover songs, Blackmore is a great composer, big difference. He was shredding and using feedback in the early 60s.Say no more.
Blackmore was a pioneer no doubt about it! As were and are many others . Without guys like this guys like petrucci Satarini and others may not be around. But just because Blackmore came first does not mean he cant be out done or out preformed. As good as blackmore is Petrucci is better. And just as Blackmore did inspiring many Petrucci is doing the same Now with the new era.
+Jim k The day Petrucci writes a song like HighwayStar, Smoke on the Water, Black Night, Burn, Manon the silver mountain, Child in time etc. I will lift me head. But to this day he has not managed. Blackmore wrote dozends of it and is together with Page and Iommi the Mozart Beethoven and Bach of Rock. Petrucci is a typical shredder who can shred (look Ma I can play fast) but can not write world class song even if you hold a gun to his head. Statement which is true to 99% for all shredders.
That was freaking great! They played at a touch too fast to the point where it lost some of the groove and I couldn't hear the base at all which is the most underrated part of that song but the keys in the guitar were spectacular.....
That was awesome. I saw DT in ‘93 in Columbus, OH. I was this huge fan at the time and left the show really disappointed. The whole thing was like watching four separate guys auditioning for Juilliard - musically perfect but missing...something. If they had played this, I would’ve left with a profoundly different opinion of the show. They’re amazing musicians, to be sure. I guess it probably didn’t help that a few guys in the crowd got into a fight outside the door and the police tear-gassed the crowd as we were leaving, so there was that, too. Oh, well.
Its just a cover and I like it very much. Dream Theater is a great band, but we cant compare then with Deep Purple. I guess this is a big mistake, we all are always comparing, and that isnt the idea when this bands make this covers, maybe they do it just to got some fun!!!
Well, they can sing & play and all. Anything they want indeed. But the only Purple who can't be reproduced, covered, imitated or replaced - never was and never will - is Paice.
Now I want to listen to Made in Japan again. 🤘🏼 Mike Portnoy is such a great guy. He does Paice and Bonzo nearly 1:1 with the same feel etc - just magic. Need to listen to some Dream Theater one day 🤷🏼♂️
Dream Theater is undoubtedly the most underrated pop band of all time. It's a pity they can't compete with the super groups such as Madonna, Justin Bieber and One Direction.
Robert Keir For a minute there I thought you where going to compare them to musicians...thank god they are not in the same league as those « super groups »
Robert Keir less people on earth know what real music is .. But many people follow unreal music.. And we must be proud being among that less people. JB one direction they are entertainer I won't include them as real musician.
+VinnieVic Jones I frankly don't care about overall personality contests. The bootom line is what do you think of their cover? I thinks it's hard-rockin' gorgeous. DT does a nice job too but they should fire the soundman. He has no idea of how a guitar band is spos'd to sound. It ain't SNARE...... everybody else.
+JohnQpublic - Blackmore appreciation is a matter of taste, not expertise or "magic". To his credit IMHO is that he resists overplaying and goes for the gut but all things considered both Petrucci and Satriani are at the very least Blackmore's equal. Plus, lately Blackmore is way out on a limb subjugating whatever artistic integrity he has left to his uber hot Candice who might just be capable of wrapping Ol' Nick himself around her finger. Portnoy is unquestionably a great drummer but I seriously doubt he is responsible for the drum heavy mix because his 4 favorite drummers believed in the Band, believed in Music, and deeply understands dynamics and is not some schoolkid newcomer with only himself on the brain. Additionally, drum-heavy mixes have been the rule rather than the exception ever since the 70s anti-guitar reactions to solo guitarists and especially after Punk, New Wave and the whole Hip Hop craze. Very few remaining guitar bands or covers of their songs get proper treatment from most soundmen. It's what is so tragically humorous about Jimi's quip "Turn that damned guitar DOWN!" Apparently a lot of soundmen didn't get the memo it was humor and not a commandment.
A it is not very good for his vocal health to copy someone else’s sound. He is the Best James Labrie there will ever be. Also I would assume singing like that night after night would be hard. In short not healthy (not saying how he sings is great now either) also he is James Labrie not Ian Gillian
Love how the crowd loses it when he hits those classic Blackmore licks...metal fans know where they came from.. respect
Rush huh, remember triumph.. I am from the burgh too.. i am 66. State of mind.

@@camturp2197 jealous or what? The style may not be your favorite but that shit works
Hi james
I believe one of his inspirations is Gillan, so it makes sense
FANTASTIC COVER (from a deep purple hardcore fan !!!)
fantastic vocals - fantastic guitars - organ - drums !!!!!!!!!!!!
thats it !!1
You can't be a hardcore Purple fan if you like the vocals in this garbage.
@@tideivlife1 🤦🏻♂️
Bass?
@@brianbianchi8028 and bass...
@Peter O Chickenfoot much better and Sammy gets the lyrics right.
Jordan went for the "Made in Japan" solo rather than the studio version :)
They played the whole "Made In Japan" that night if I'm not mistaken.
I'm a deep purple fan since 1970 and this one is nicely done !
iannis anarys Drums are all wrong so not convinced. Joe Lynn Turner's is the only one who comes close to Ian Paice.
Hefty Alan Joe Lyn Turner is a vocalist not a drummer

Nobody does it better than Gillan on Made in Japan, but this is definitely a good effort.
I always considered the Made in Japan version rather lackluster when it comes to the vocals.
The guitar solo on made in Japan is the best though. This solo is exceptionally good though.
Actually nobody does it better than Glen Hughes!
@@Antares-dw9iv Well he kept messing up the lyrics, but Gillan sounded very good that entire concert otherwise.
Mike patton with fnm
Highway Star..Made In Japan version..covered by Dream Theater in South Korea..\m/
This is one of the greatest covers I've ever heard in my life. Dream Theater for life!
McSmijens1 don’t you know the cover from chickenfood? Take a look and listen to that stuff
Gota agree Chickenfoot awesome cover. Check out Satriani on the Jon Lord keyboard solo. Then Blackmore. Love it.
At least Sammy gets the lyrics right.
Go listen to the Glenn Hughes/Steve Vai/Chad Smith/Lachy Doley version. It’s beyond incredible.
Ok, now Deep purple turn plays Pull Me Under
Ok. Now DT create a genre.
Knowing purple...
They probably can pull it off.
@Kevin James you did get the joke, right?
the simger is doing fine in this cover lol
@@alieffauzanrizky7202 what do u think?
Just imagine how awesome this band would be if you could actually hear the bass player!
There are so many things that makes the bass "unaudible" rather than only volume. The tone is one of the main reasons why u dont hear bass
3:21 if u say that u cant hear the bass here then there's something wrong with your ears
A Classic Hard Rock song made by Legends and covered by other Legends.
hard rock? this is pure heavy metal.
@@TheErikpramos i think he is referring to original version. But yeah I agree with you even the original version of deep purple its pure heavy metal.
From a Purple fanatic, well done take a bow.
Even Petrucci was smiling at the crowd's reaction during the original solo.

He was jamming some new off timings 😂😂🤘🤘🤘🤘
