This band has made a lot of cool songs. It's great that this song is titled "Subtle Change" while having multiple abrupt, dramatic transitions in style and sound. It's just a shame this band lost their lead vocalist, his deep growl really filled out the sound.
@@drphdmd7064I love their first 3 records, with this one being an absolute masterpiece. The new stuff just isn't grabbing me though. Jake's voice really brings their sound together.
I have been really enjoying watching you evolve into a metal head over the years! my mom really was into reaction videos and you would always would have stuff that my mom didnt know and would never listen to so watching her reactions as you reacting will always be something I will always remember fondly. after she passed I couldnt take watching reaction videos except for yours. Deftones was one of the bands that she actually liked. I want to suggest to you one song by them that I havent seen you react to by them as it was the first song I ever by them that hooked me in. Be Quiet and Drive. it actually was the acoustic version. then listen to the album version. it still gives me goose bumps. other then that I would suggest fear factory. I have a good feeling you will like :) Thank you for being you!
What up Geebz! I really like your breakdown on rivers of nihil. They are an amazing band. So much skill and talent. I'm looking forward to seeing them live one day soon hopefully
I _reeeallllllly_ love the writing with Rivers of Nihil. They have more softer sections with that phenomenal bass, and then the heavy sections go balls to the wall with drums and pounding guitars. Add in the sax, and the ethereal elements and you have such a unique sound that I just _LOVE!_ Glad to see you enjoy some bangers, Geebz! Hope your work is going well; take care man!🤙 Keep on rocking!🤘
Storytelling, man. The LORE! That's where it is. I just got with a badass prog metal band and that's what we're searching for, to tell OUR story, in a way others can resonate with. Rivers of Nihil/Opeth both major inspirations and influences
I'm a simple man, I see Rivers of Nihil and Geebz in the same title, I click right away. If you don't plan on doing more reactions/analyses of them, I highly recommend you check out their work. They are such a breath of fresh air. Plus it takes a special kind of talent to blend sax into this so perfectly
I got to see Rivers of Nihil 5.11.24 in their hometown Reading PA with Carnifex, Cattle Decapitation, Humanity's Last Breath, Zenith Passage, and many more. And oh my god they were amazing live and they had the biggest pit of every band during the 11 hour festival!
Aloha Geebz. It's been awhile since I last checked your content. Glad you're still giving us your wisdom. I wanted to share with you a band I just discovered and have become obsessed. There's no other way to describe it. I might be turning into a teenager. Who knows. It's called: "The Warning". Some people call it Baby Metal, as they are three young sisters who play rick and sing. Personally, I think they rock. And I'm an OGT Tool fan. Their production values and sound ate top notch. They have a long video on YT, a show in Mexico City from 2022 that's just awesome from beginning to end. You should check them out, and invite another army into your channel: TWA (The Warning Army). They've been together for 10 years, 3 indie releases plus one major record release on 2022 and another this summer. They have opened for Halestorm, Guns N'Roses, Foo Fighters and Muse, among other acts. And are slowly getting bigger. They are better live. From that Mexico City Show check Animosity, then Dust to Dust (or 23), and then Evolve. Actually, you could pick any song of the setlist from that CDMX show. They are mostly 3-4 minutes songs. You won't regret it and The Warning Army would love your take. Enjoy!
Maybe then, but their newer stuff just ain't on this level and feels really uninspired in comparison. Just my opinion, but I tried to give it a chance tho
saw them tour a couple years ago (w/ Entheos & Conjurer) play this album IN FULL... (WITH sax)... matched the recording ONE. FOR. ONE...... SO GOOD!!!!!!!
Haven’t dove into these guys yet, have heard a few tracks in passing that caught my ear. This one tho! That little bit of horn in there was sooo cool! You haven’t missed a beat brother!! Awwwright!!🤙
I know I'm a bit late here but if you're open to unsolicited recommendations, I can't sing enough praise for Leviathan from White Ward. Prog Blackgaze with Jazz flair and it HITS.
I like the mix of this song, drums are in the front some. i was in a pawn shop and i saw those exact headphones in a sealed box. I didn't get them, i did pick up a squier fender acoustic guitar... because when i saw it i heard king crimson's peace a theme in my head. time to learn how to play the guitar.
I would like to make a recommendation that is totally different from what you've done so far, but I'm sure you'll appreciate it and love to discover something really unique. It's - Ivo Papasov - Bulchenska Ratchenitsa (Bride's Ratchenitsa) Steve Vai has a documentary of a song he did in tribute to them after hearing Ivo Papasov and his band and got inspired. Hopefully I'll see you give it a listen some day! :D
I've always pronounced it like knee-hill, and I think it's the proper Latin pronunciation. But I've heard the band themselves pronounce it like Nile. So I guess just pronounce it however you want lol.
Hello from Europe (Austria). I really enjoy your channel and your reactions to different songs. I work as a music teacher at a middle school and we recently watched one of your videos. 😊 Could you do me a favour and react to „Arch Essence“ from Monuments feat. Spencer Sotelo (Periphery) . It’s such an amazing and breathtaking song, I cannot stop listening and I’m sure it´ll be your cup of tea (coffee) too. Cheers 🤘🏼
Funny you should say that it's a part of a longer piece, because it absolutely isn't lmao, this song basically just cuts off abruptly and doesn't lead into anything.
Saw them live supporting Lorna Shore. Boring. Lost all nuances. Dont really like the growl on record that much but they lost all live. Rather good on record though.
I saw them supporting Between The Buried And Me. I'd be lying if said I wasn't a little disappointed, but in their defense, BTBAM blew me away. Plus RON had lost their lead singer so the bassist had taken over that role, but he had dropped out of the tour for family issues. They had a guest vocalist and the bass was on backing tracks. But again, BTBAM was top notch and Thank You Scientist killed it as well, so the show was worth it.
This is possibly the best track on one of the most complete metal records ever made. Thrilled to see you break this one down.
i agree, this for me has the same effect as when i heard blackwater park for the first time
Rivers of Nihil (Nile). Such a great song, that sax and solo in the middle is epic.
This band has made a lot of cool songs. It's great that this song is titled "Subtle Change" while having multiple abrupt, dramatic transitions in style and sound. It's just a shame this band lost their lead vocalist, his deep growl really filled out the sound.
It is, but gaining Andy is pretty damned awesome.
They're falling back to a more grounded sound to compensate. Growing a new sound will take time.
@@drphdmd7064I love their first 3 records, with this one being an absolute masterpiece. The new stuff just isn't grabbing me though. Jake's voice really brings their sound together.
This is the song that got me into Rivers of Nihil, glad to see you get after it!
Love the song. Lots of cool not so "subtle" changes. The sax is amazing. That ending though. 🔥
This album is a really, really great piece of work. Just phenomenal stuff- probably their "Blackwater Park".

Never clicked a video so fast, this song is outstanding.
beautiful song and one of my favorites, --hauntingly gorgeous as you said Geebz!!!!

They brought the sax player with them when they toured for this album...such an amazing performance to witness live from this band! \m/
Howzit Geebz, long time no see! I saw this pop up on my feed and I had to click, welcome back brother!
This is my favorite song on one of my favorite albums of the past 10 years. It's so amazing from beginning to end.
So hyped to see this, best album of 2018 IMO.

This album was my go to during a very pivotal point in life

Yes! Been hoping you would get to this one since I mentioned it way back when you first did this band. Their most progressive track on that album.

This is my favorite album of the past 10 years next to Promises by Pharaoh Sanders and Floating Points, and Hear You by Toe.
Permanent playlist band for the last 5 years. It is odd hearing someone discover something that is so all the time at my house.🤘
Thank you Geebz
So pumped to see this one

Another good track to check out from them is 'The Void from Which No Sound Escapes'.... ugh soooo good.
