Arrow spine is important, but I’m not so sure for these reasons. Consider rather 1) perfect arrow flight and 2) shaft buckling at impact with an animal.

Definitely don’t disagree with you that those two are important also, the scope of this particular was just arrow spine effects on velocity. If there’s already velocity difference due to spine variation, arrow flight can’t correct that, and the buckling on impact will be destined to be different from the release of the arrow.
