Do releases like this matter at all for retro video game collecting? Also, I got my NA special edition pre-ordered 🎉
No not at at specially since the cartridge doesn’t do anything
I think it will create more interest. I don't feel this will be hard to get so it has the chance to be randomly picked up on shelves.
Nah lol
@@777superlightwater Have you been living under a rock for the last few years?
I think it creates a short buzz, which probably favors investorinos selling in the two coming HA sigs etc. But otherwise, I don't think This is what's gonna kick it into gear
Missed opportunity not to make the the cart playable/compatible with NES. IMO there is a market for Nintendo to manufacture and produce new carts for NES/SNES in situations like these but thats just my 2 cents.
Japan gets working controllers, we get a shelf ornament. Japan wins this round lol.
CGC gonna be grading a ton of these real soon😂
Could be a good ploy from Nintendo to get the older generation collectors onto their newest platform too.
Now that's thinking right there. How do we get a 40 year old with no kids to buy a switch?
*Nostalgia bait*
Personally speaking I get a ton of enjoyment playing retro games on all my retro systems. Usually anything from the 3rd generation of consoles to the end of the 6th generation of systems. Occasionally I will play stuff on my modern consoles such as the switch or PS4 but usually it's my retro stuff.
This release I'm pretty excited for because it's perfect for someone such as myself who enjoys playing these types of games and testing my skills against my friends who have interests in the same types of games as myself.
I don't really think this will change NES game prices. I think the more casual gamers who enjoy NES games because they have nostalgia for them as a kid and got their kids a switch would probably just play classic NES games on switch online or maybe they still have those NES classic mini consoles somewhere probably collecting dust.
But for people like myself who have an original NES, SNES, or my personal favorite a Sega Saturn we just continue on.
This is all coming from a 28 year old who has no nostalgia for any of these retro systems. I just enjoy playing them because of the fun gameplay I get from them and I view any game I buy retro or modern and no matter what condition it is, Brand new or Used , if I have never played it , it's still a new game to me. :)
I already pre-ordered it at my local GameStop yesterday; I got home from work took a shower and got on RUclips and saw that this was coming out and had to run to GS right away.
Got my preorder in a few hours after making this video! Had to wait for the Canada ones to go online
Great idea of ordering the deluxe then buying the digital version so you can keep it sealed ima do that too.
Some people do the weirdest things with their money.
@@leeartlee915weird = good in this case right.......🥺?
@@justinmaertens31 Uhhh, guess it all depends. If you think it’s good, then you think it’s good. My thoughts on owning sealed video games has been well documented on this channel.
The cartridge will probably be like the fire emblem one they did a few years ago.
GameStop exclusive?
Can you use the cart on an actual NES? Pretty cool idea by Nintendo imo
There is a piece of small text that says "replica game pak not playable", so no, it's literally just a display piece
I dont think it will affect the retro market for hardcore collectors but for gamers on a budget that settle for just having a similar piece maybe. I know I purchased the NTSC edition and the japanese version for the controls :)
we all know Greg ordered 10, picks the best 1 to grade and returns 9
Returns 9!? You sell them for 3x on eBay..... 😏
Playing alone can be very boring regardless if its a NES or PS5 game. Actually i prefer to play the classic games from 8 bit or 16 bit era due to the difficulty and replay value!
I definitely think it will rekindle interest innmodern games from the same IPs... as for buying retro games, I kind of doubt it will have any significant impact. Maybe some... it does keep nes games in the mindshare of consumers, so ya never know. Maybe the odd guy will pickup a retro cart, but I doubt it will have any significant impact.
I just love seeing the retro put back into the spotlight, even if it's just for a moment haha
I agree with everything you said except the age range. I’m 37 and grew up with NES. 40-45 is skewing slightly high. Maybe 36-44
I'm 30 myself and grew up with it but I know that's not the norm haha.
Yeaaaa, you're probably right. I'm probably skewing a bit high on that estimate.
NES came out nationwide in the US in 86 and was discontinued in 95. It sold millions until 94. The key demographic in America would been kids at least 5-15 or older during that time. They would of been born from 79-89. That would make most of us NES players between 45-35. So your both about right. Got mine in 89 and I'm 40.
Bro, all I gotta say is: 1889, two world wars, many economic crashes and yet, Nintendo remains.💪🏆 It's not going anywhere man. Keep ya head up and play on! How lucky we are to be alive today and just play such magic from such a creative company like the Big N! 💯😎
#NintendoForever
Haha they really are the unstoppable 🐐
@@GetTheGregDarn tootin' sir! Lol Other companies should take note. 😉
bro, most of us out here living check to check flipping cushions for gas money so we can buy a slice of ham.
Sounds like you better only buy one copy
What does this do to the value of Dunkaroos?
Does this affect their legacy?
Def still play Mike Tyson’s Punch-out & Zelda/2 on NES still today. Can you beat Mike Tyson easily every time?
Can I beat Tyson easily every time!? My man..... I don't think I've ever actually beaten Tyson ever😅
I did grow up playing MTPO but never went back to grind it as an adult. Very rarely we would get runs to Mr Sandman but I don't think we ever got to Tyson without password.
Got 2 coming
About time Nintendo did this! Mario Maker was also a title that reintroduced the older Mario games in a new and inventive way. Remix and now NWC too! Brilliant!
This will probably give NES a short burst, but I don't think we'll see all dads flock to Ebay. And I if parents play this with their kids, I think it'll create a lot of memories of bonding, but not necessarily linked to the bleep bloop game, because kids have options so easily available and that are so vastly different from 8bit games
It's true. There really are just endless options today. Perhaps once those kids become 40 themselves they'll feel some weird urge to look through Nintendo's history.... That would be like the year 2060 aha.
Video game collecting in 2060... What is that going to look like hahaha😅
@@GetTheGreg yeah. It's ofc impossible to predict. Personally, I think Mario Maker will be one of the stronger long-term "real" reintroduction titles tho. I know kids loved that!
Really great stuff!
Really great comment!
I saw this yesterday and knew you would make a video about it lol. I almost asked if you were gonna.
Haha sometimes I have to hop on the relevancy train 🚂
Thanks Greg. Just pre ordered. Super psyched!
Did you go for a Japan one or US? The more I'm thinking about it, the more I think I should buy both ahah....
@@GetTheGreg I got the US version. I know you want both, so do I. But I have so much retro game stuff…I’m at the point where if I don’t have space in my game room to display it or play it why buy it. God help me if ever move to a bigger house😂.
Haha dude, I'm in the exact same boat. My girlfriend already complains about me having stuff everywhere because it doesn't all fit in the "game room"😅
World Championship N64 Edition!
Mushroom mix-up tournaments are going to go haaarrddd.
Yes!!! Already pre orderd.....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
If the Nintendo switch online nes collection didn't cause a bump I don't think this will. I would say that the headlines of super Mario selling for big bucks drove it more than that. Actually before 2020 the nes classic and Snes classic were driving prices down. Earthbound was headed towards under $100 for the first time in years. But alas, it's more than just nostalgia driving video game prices.
Yea I remember distinctly earthbound actually going down after the SNES classic came out... And then yea, eventually reaching new all time highs haha.
Question for you . What's your favorite site to get your games graded . I personally like Wata I know a ton of people hate them. But I find their site easy to navigate . The prices are in-between the other two competitors and I like there cases . But what's your's favorite.
Right now I use mostly WATA and a bit of CGC
@@GetTheGreg Do you ever get any negative feed back for using wata.
Tons. Many people hate me and what I do hahah
@@GetTheGreg people just like to bring people down. And hate because they can't do what u do. Just keep doing you. You're videos are great
Hey Greg, I really like listening to your content while I’m working, but I noticed your Heritage auction live streams volume is really low for your voice and I struggle to hear you keep in mind. I also drive a garbage truck that’s super loud.
Thanks for the heads up! I'll make a note to raise the mic volume next Tuesday.
It is super quiet
I keep it low to ensure I never peak the audio haha. I always raise it up for video editing, but yea, no option to do that for the live.
Don't worry boys, it'll be better!
Love this surprise release by Nintendo! I snagged 2 myself. Great video, buddy!
Very nice! Looks like the eBay resale is hovering around $100 right now. Will be interesting to see if this is actually coveted as a collector thing or just junk haha
@GetTheGreg LOL at scalpers! These are still available to pre-order at retail. I'm sure they won't be collectible for years because the majority of people are buying and keeping them sealed. One day, perhaps, but FOMO gets me every time, lol!
Yea, I don't have much actual expectation for it to be valuable haha, I just think it's cool as heck!
@@GetTheGregMe too, buddy! 😊
I preordered the Deluxe I almost preordered the Digital
I so wish they would just do a new NES Remix… or better yet, do a SNES Remix.
Hopefully my single purchase will signal to Nintendo that people want content like this
I‘m 44, so definitely „target audience“ 🤪 and I‘ll try to get at least 2 over here in Germany to hopefully get at least one in mint condition and I‘ll also try to get my hand on a Japanese release.
I'm taking an insane gamble by only having one ordered so far haha. Can't wait for best buy to send it in a bubble mailer
Great Lagacy analysis of why people care ^_^v
Makes me want to try to beat Zelda 2
Bought 3 US versions and 1 Japanese version. I have a problem.
You are all excited to pay for demos of 40 year old games... And then complain about Nintendo being greedy and lazy.
0:24 PAL version, but same contents
Yea, I wasn't bothered to edit that after the fact aha
The famicom controllers actually work? That’s sick.
Yea pretty sure they are full on joycons
Greg, if Nintendo went bye-bye, Mario wouldn’t be going anywhere. Someone would buy up that IP in a second. Face it, we are stuck with Mario.
In my hypothetical, assume they can't just buy up the IP or whoever does completely ruins it haha
@@GetTheGreg hmmmm……
who would anyone want to own it?
where would anyone want to own it?
Why! That’s when.
those of us that are a little younger have absolutely no nostalgia to the NES...personally N64 and Gamecube for me. So for those games selling for thousands unless it's something historical and still relevant today like Mario I don't see how prices can sustain for the rest.... like literally the multi thousand dollar sells mean nothing to me on those older systems... look at atari wasnt there a huge bubble and now nobody wants them?
I personally think majority of NES games will just fade into obscurity as years keep passing too, actually. NES has over 700 games, so yea, most are already very niche/esoteric outside of people who deeply collect for the console.
It's kind of the same with any collectable hobby. The vast majority of stuff is low value/worthless, and the hobbies revolves around the stuff that is actually sought after.
Just look at N64 or GameCube even. It's like 50 games on each console that people endlessly talk about and the rest of the games are like $10-$30. But I assume the Mario's, Zelda's, and "hidden gems" will last for many, many more years
So what you're saying is that once the boomers are gone, I can finally afford a mega man 1?
It’s hilarious Greg is pretending he isn’t buying a Japanese copy.
no it wont impact the market
What about a wee bit?
this is just bizarre to me, people complain how weak of a switch year this is, and this is nintendos response?
I absolutely agree with you on that, but I'm such a Homer for nostalgia that I eat this up 😅
Taking into consideration that it's very likely Nintendo was going to announce a switch successor this year, it's dumb complaining about a weak year. Now, it's only weak in number of releases. Getting paper mario and Luigi's mansion, even if they're remakes, is pretty good in terms of quality. Now, this NWC actually has me excited. Quick games are really fun
@@andreysegura2510 Yeah but you forget something, first not everyone wanna play gamecube games, secondly, they charge them at full price, thirdly we know now paper mario is even 30 fps, not even 60fps as the gamecube, it would be like me being amazed by the "tales of symphonia" remaster, that was 60fps at gamecube and now 30, because it was in "1080p" and then still have to pay full price. And it amazes me how nintendo fans literally tells people like me, who cares, better graphics is a great trade off- okay so now "graphics" matters more than gameplay for Nintendo fans. See, this is the issue once again, you have nothing to offer the kids but gamecube games, fine, but then dont charge full price for them- luigi mansion 2, 60 USD , really?! yeah, lets go from Luigi mansion 3, to 2, and charge them full price again for this gamecube game! This is just shitty behavior from them, greed as well. Dont wanna hear about dveelopers crunching when Nintendo literally keep doing this to their mostly "kid audience". Full priced gamecube games, because they have nothing to offer, and probably cost nothing to make.
Also, still no pokemon games on the NSO- wtf?! would have been perfect for people to play in handheld. Also, and this isnt nintendos fault ofc, but all "nintendo youtubers" who kept making the videos about a zelda windwaker/twilight bundle ending up not being true kind of sucks.
See, I fully understand having a weak year before the switch 2, but they could have made it a better year- they have an insane NSO library IF they want to share it (...mostl ikely holding some stuff off for switch 2, I get that). This christmas is gonna suck for most kids, adults like us are fine, we can just play on our ps5 or pc. I mean, FF7 rebirth, Dragons Dogma 2, Yakuza 8, Helldivers 2,Persona 3 remake, Metaphor is coming soon etc. But Nintendo? you wanna play some gamecube games, from two generations ago? or princess peach? geeez, im glad im not a teenager just owning the switch this year. Wishing for Luigi mansion 2, when you already own 3, is insane to me, for any kid.
@@quezcatol Yeah, sure? I guess? No one will force anyone to buy GameCube remakes. Don't want them, ok, don't buy them.
Luigi's mansion 2 is a 3DS game originally.
You'd have to be quite ignorant to claim these games cost nothing to make, as they're remakes, not emulated.
Finally, I don't see any kids complain about these games. It's grown-ups like you that complain and then say you care about kids.
you are just reusing your words over and over, you already mentioned why people wont buy old games like 3 times and im on the 6 minute mark. You are clearly not a collector, This stuff i love alot. i ordered 2 copies , one to open and play and another to keep. I collect games and i still buy doubles . one complete and one loose copy. I still play my nes, when i was young i did not have money so owning the original copies feels like an achievement and little did i know people were going to collect, i been buying and collecting since 1995 when the games were cheap i got me a side job during my off days of school just buying from the bargain bin. But i feel like i needed the whole artwork and that is why i started buying complete sets. has nothing to do with value for me, long story short i own about 6000 games 15 complete consoles/handhelds and 30 arcade machines (original arcades no 1 up stuff)
That's awesome. I hope I can get a big collection some day!
