It didn't. Thanaton was physically in the Dark Council Chambers when the Sith Warrior dueled Darth Baras. Thanaton was already entrenched on Corellia before the Sith Inquisitor arrived. However, the Battle for Corellia was in full swing when the Sith Warrior arrived there. Darth Thanaton declared a Kaggath and was physically on Corellia trying to undermine the Inquisitor. There is no way he could have been engaged in a Kaggath, sabotaging the Inquisitor on Corellia, and then leave Corellia to travel to Korriban. Moreover, the events of the Sith Warrior Chapters 2 and 3 happened before the events of the Sith Inquisitor Chapter 2. So it is likely that while the Sith Inquisitor was hunting ghosts, Thanaton had the time to attend a Dark Council meeting on Korriban.

Yoda is probably still quite a bit more powerful in raw Force ability than even the strongest Council member, Windu's superconducting loop is basically the ultimate trump card against most of the Sith on their Council, Obi-Wan and Plo Koon are among the greatest duelists of their era, and if they're bolstered by Oppo Rancisis' battle meditation, who was arguably more proficient with the ability even than Yoda... that's a pretty imposing combo already.

@@QA-ut7dd Your points are valid and correct. I believe, however, that you miss one key point. While no single member of the Dark Council could defeat the Jedi Council, and such factionalism is almost universally their downfall, if there is one thing that could unite them, it would be their hatred of the Jedi. Unlike the hatred of some of the Rule of Two Sith, for whom such a thing was inherited and nearly ritualistic, almost every member of the Dark Council had some deeply personal reason to truly and deeply hate the Jedi. Getting the Dark Council to the same battlefield at the same time would be the hard part. If the scenario is that both sides are assembled, then the undiluted hatred of the Dark Council, focused against a single foe, could perhaps overcome even such a collection of luminaries as you have named.

I hated the sphere simply because those forms of government annoy me due to their efficiency. The people in the Republic had it right, if laws must be passed upon the people, let it be only through a delegation of over 2,000 people trying to agree on things. Bureaucracy is the key to any successful government not drastically overnight stealing power, it can't get anything done, but it is safe. Having 5 or 12 people trying to think of new ways to oppress and seize power, well that is just different context and 12 Angry Men the movie which was 1h35 minutes. 1h35 is what you have to stop laws and regulations that could put you in chains, no thanks.

Seems strange for the Sith, who are build on a philosophy of individual strength and competition, to build a bureaucratic system where spheres may have to cooperate together to succeed. Just seems like these spheres would be doomed to butt heads eventually. No wonder it was later reduced.
Note: Never played the Old Republic games (yet).

The reason it worked was for the Emperor himself. Yes there was competition between the Sith, even at that time. But no one questioned the rule of the Emperor. Those who did perished the next day. Vitiate was so powerful, when he heard that half of the Dark Council, the most powerful sith in the empire after the emperor himself, planned to kill him, he summoned them the next day and killed all 12 Dark Counciler, like they were insects.
Competition was normal and it was even encouraged, but no one could question the Emperor or compete with him. That was a basic rule which almost all followed and those who didnt died not long after.
The Emperor Vitiate had unimaginable power due to his Ritual on Nathema.
