    I feel like a Survivor game would work best in video game form where your avatar can explore a map independent of other players (or with your alliance) and you could have proximity chat for some level of secrecy while also allowing others to eavesdrop and leak chat dialogue to others. The voting and challenges would also be fairly simple to implement. Have them set on round timers or something.

      Yeah it seems possible and yet they keep fumbling the bag on all content I don't get it!

      the closest thing i know of is outlaster on roblox the only problem kind of with the criteria you set is the primary form of communication is one on one wispers or full group chat (all text) technically there is proximity text chat but it is never really used also the base servers have a lot of people who are bad at the game or just leave and the restricted survers for players who have at least 5 wins but then it takes like 2 hours for the single game that is going to end

    Towards the end of the video I was going to ask if you thought there were any house rules that could make it better. Then you asked if we wanted that video. Yes, we do

  • @gameshowman1234
    @gameshowman1234 День назад +1

    Couple of house rules we added that helped out the game
    1. Eliminated players are out, but do cast a vote at tribal that can't be removed. Eliminated players can still get Goodwill advantages though
    2. Play till one player has a castaway left.
    Combine those together and you get a great game of people pointing fingers and messing with others.

      That also sounds like fun, heck yeah! I might make a post later asking for house rules to see what people come up with as well as Lisa and I

    Yes we need a video on house rules to add! I’ve experimented with immunity challenges before the tribal council. Like just a simple slide puzzle or balancing game, and whoever wins, you can’t vote for them

      That sounds like a great house rule! We'll be trying some out in a few days time (and then I go away for a conference so the results may have to wait)

      Very true, for some reason they wouldn't let me do my thesis on really liking Survivor, so instead I've had to do computer science

    Along with the Australian Outback card game that you showed earlier in the video, there was also a Survivor TCG by Upper Deck. It only had two sets (one for each of the first two seasons of the show). If you ask me, there was some untapped potential in it, particularly if expansions for later seasons were made.
    Each player makes a deck of cards to use (or uses the pre-made decks via the starter deck set) and gets to pick their own castaways to serve as their tribe. You'd use most of the cards to enhance your scores in the immunity challenges, which would be based on one or two skills all the castaways had different values in (speed, strength, wits, etc.). The player/tribe with the highest score in the challenge wins, then gets to choose who from the opponent's tribe is eliminated. Then the game keeps going until one player has castaways left. It's designed for 2 players, but you can actually play it with more if you want according to the manual (up to 6).

      Alright time to spend an unreasonable amount of money to try and get the Trading Card Game now...it's just so cool with all the history of the show, and just how big it was in the early 2000s!

  • @gameshowman1234
    @gameshowman1234 День назад +1

    Here's the thing. Most of us agreed that you don't have a lot of control over your hand. But one guy decided to do something that completely fixed that. He didn't play anything at all till the final couple of cards before tribal. That way, when you try and steal something from him, he just as many advantage cards as well as action cards. Meaning even if something was taken, he would still have enough to use for the next tribal card. That simple move made all the difference. Keeping your hand size high means you have loads of dummy cards that yes are useful, but nowhere near as useful as an idol or extra votes.

    • @tsilver33
      @tsilver33 День назад

      Youre also supposed to straight up tell people what you do or dont have, or lie about it. While you cant *show* the cards in your hand, you can tell people whats in it. This is especially useful since they give you a few cards that are a little worse than others or encourage not picking on you (inheritance/got nothin for you).
      While stealing isnt a thing in survivor, *negotiating* is! The cards are a means to encourage players to cause drama. Should you keep picking on Jeff? You need his vote to win the game at the end. Maybe you should play the "make an alliance" card and *actually* make an alliance with him. In public. In private you all still conspire to vote his ass out but now he wont know it was you. And maybe hell remember his ol buddy at FTC.

    My dad got me this game and I played it with him and my mom and it was an ideal for three people, but it was still fun. I can’t wait to play it with more people.

      I did a small run with my flatmates and it was pretty fun. Still the same issues as before, but I wonder if it's somehow better suited to smaller groups than larger ones.

    Just bought the game in England (US vpn and cost about $35). Played it with my parents, one who is a fan of Australian survivor, and it ended up being a lot of fun. We had to restart a few times, as the first time round Dad attempted to play his hidden immunity idol as I was saying "Welcome to Tribal Council", and we ended up playing with a few changes e.g. not stealing a card every round, just closing our eyes to vote as that was easier. Considered bringing in a dice and offering up a 1/6 chance of immunity for sacrificing your vote, but for a new survivor fan it was already quite complicated.

      @HenryHickmanSurvivor  2 дня назад +1

      It's one of those games that seems like a lot of fun to build on, like adding more rewards, advantages, immunity, it's a very flexible base! No clue how they think people who aren't fans will love it though...

      @@HenryHickmanSurvivor That's exactly it. Similar to Exploding Kittens where they have other versions you can add and booster packs you can add to your game, this would really benefit from future expansions where they introduce 2/3 more teams, new advantages and new elements to the game. I doubt they will ever do this, but it is really interesting to think about how they could expand the game in the future.

    I thought it was so much fun. I played it with 4 other people and it took 4 hours. If all of you are Survivor fans, it's great because you can really take your time between rounds strategizing and forming/changing alliances. I think having two lives in the game and double eliminations allows for a lot of the dynamics to shift each round as opposed to a quick majority coming together and just taking two people out with no chance to recover. And the amount of extra votes the game had actually is a huge improvement because it requires a LOT of awareness as to where all of the votes are going to ensure you are safe (ESPECIALLY at double elimination tribals).
    My two major gripes are
    1. What you mentioned about having to burn your idols and advantages immediately. I was pretty confident I was safe at the final 4, but played my idol anyway because I didn't want someone to take it at the final 3. Then I had no agency at the final 3 to actually take who I wanted to the end and only made it to the top 2 through the skin of my teeth. I guess one could argue it wouldn't be fair to idol my way to the final. 🤷🏼‍♂️
    2. The tie-breaker clause is more often than not too powerful. The other board game had that mechanic, too. They should have come up with a fair way to break a tie vs. "Oh, I just so happened to draw the tribal council card, so now I have all the power."
    I ended up losing 2-1 but still enjoyed it thoroughly. If you're a fan of the show, I recommend trying it as long as you can let go of the ways it doesn't line up with the real game.

      @HenryHickmanSurvivor  День назад +1

      4 hours??? That sounds amazing! I think they've marketed the game wrong tbh. It isn't a 30-60 minute party game, it is a multi-hour strategy social game, almost akin to a murder mystery experience, and if they leaned into that more I think it would be a lot more fun

      @HenryHickmanSurvivor I agree. They wanted to make sure it sold well, so they pretended it was something it wasn't.

    Somehow, this feels like the best designed of all the Survivor spin-offs that you've had to play for this channel? Is the bar that low or is Stockholm Syndrome kicking in?

    The Survivor Withdrawal is hitting Henry so hard, all in all this was not awful, Survivor should be a really easy game to make tbh
    Like just online with proximity chat, 1-4 minute timers per section, lobbies with 12-18 people

    If you want a good effectively just Tribal Council game, I would look for Dead Last. Its everyone gets a colour and voting cards of every colour in the game. You have 4 minutes to talk with everyone on who to vote for. If you are in a majority voting, the target is out. If you are out of a majority voting, you are out. If you are a majority target but you play your own colour, you get to eliminate someone who voted for you instead. If its a tie, all tied targets are out. Its a really fast and furious party game that gets better with the more people you add

    I’m definitely buying this for my parents. But speaking of the compartments in the urn, did you hear that during 47 Sam claims he was actually able to count the votes in the urn when he went to vote? I thought it was very disappointing that you had made your video just a week out two before his interview with Rob was published.

    • @HenryHickmanSurvivor
      @HenryHickmanSurvivor  2 дня назад +2

      I'll be a bit careful with a comment on Sam. I'll start with I am sure he's telling the truth from his perspective. However, it has been confirmed production puts dummy votes into the urn so people aren't just dropping into an empty urn. Whether they put a dummy vote in regardless of if someone has lost their vote is the real question. I'm a bit surprised Sam got away with it either way, smart thinking on his end but I would expect production to tell him to quit it, so it did shoot my eyebrows up off my face for a second there!
