Speaking of character variety, I can give Illumination’s Mario movie credit for trying at character distinction with the Koopa Troopa leaders compared to Sticker Star.
They should have made Sticker Star a survival horror instead, Limited resources, Saving important stuff for the bosses, Annoying ally, It has all your avarage Survival Horror stuff... Except the horror... And the fun.
oh, you forgot to mention: JUST before the Bowser fight, you have to fight Kamek again, who turns ALL of you stickers into "flip-flops" AND splits into 3, so unless you get the "slot machine" perfect AND hit all the "flip-flops" timing perfectly, you will waste a WHOLE BUNCH of stickers, possibly your BEST ones because YOU CAN'T TELL WHICH IS WHICH! also, there are no enemies in between those two fights, just a BUNCH of big empty rooms that waste your time!
Having played the first two Paper Marios when they came out, I used to attribute Sticker's issues to its being a handheld game. So many casual/shallow games came out on the 3DS. But the more I think about it, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were re-released on 3DS. So the system could've easily had a game on the same level as the original Paper Mario.

The only cultural impact this game left was when somebody made a comment on the final boss music saying it was the best Paper Mario final boss music and it caused a huge argument that Critikal made a video about.
I just realized something insane I've never thought of before: What are stickers meant to do? Hint: It's in the name. They stick to things. You put them somewhere and then they stay there. In modern board games you use stickers when you want to permanently change a card or something. So why are the stickers in Sticker Star consumable items that you can toss around so easily all the time. The whole main concept of the game doesn't work.

You’re misinterpreting it. In reality, Nintendo banked on Mario and Luigi being Mario’s only RPG series from the 2010s going forward, only for AlphaDream to go bankrupt, laying that series dormant.
The fury this game brings me stays with me to this day. Yeah, there's other games and stuff that have done damage to my favorite media... but sometimes I can find some redeemable or even fun factors. Fun Fact: Your Max HP is also your Attack Stat in this game. Just that it's hard to notice because of how Stickers are handed out because by the time you get enough HP Hearts to notice a big difference, you likely have more powerful Stickers. Yes I did just stumble upon this video.

So I am at least able to tolerate the experience (At least for the first 2 worlds) despite it being in my opinion, the worst game I have ever played. (And I played Sonic 06 and Mega Man X7) Also yeah, that is the reason you one shot earlier enemies.

Late but fun fact about running away from battles: You say that running felt random even once you started mashing, and that's because it is! Mashing does not increase the chance to run away at ALL. All it does is let you know if you randomly got the chance to run away because if the screen darkens quickly you will run and if it doesn't you won't. It is 100% luck and the mashing A is placebo.
I ran out of hammer stickers on the final phase of the final boss. I was going to use the pity stickers it gives you when you run out, but I was forced to use the door sticker and it made me run away instead. Probably the worst boss I've ever had the displeasure of fighting. I'm glad he had his own chapter here.

the thing is. Even if those story and character restrictions were just "suggestions" by miyamoto he is still essentially trying to shame and downplay the writers and character designers. Because they go more indepth with character design than miyamoto does with his original designs. It's like if you make an original series and hire additional writers and artists. They basically add unto your original characters, and the original creator gets fussy that he wasnt willing to go as far in the creative process. So tells the other artists "i dont like this, tone it down because it will make me feel better." That's what the miyamoto situation sounds like to me. They just try to paint it as "miyamoto making suggestions" to try and avoid backlash and drama. So yeah, you can say miyamoto doesnt hate story. He is just annoyed when people make stories that add more personality and world building that involve his ideas. And obviously the restrictions are born out a desire to keep the big man happy. I don't think that Sticker Star hates you. If you want to talk about a game that probably does hate you, then look at Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. That game actually hates me so I'm hating it back as Ubisoft clearly plays favorites with it's consumers and I'm on the short end of the stick.

I've seen video reviews of Sticker Star where the person doesn't know too too much about the game but this video takes the cake, you made a video about why Sticker Star is bad while basically knowing nothing about the game. @@Eric6761 1. He says that people who find modern PM well written actually mean they found said game funny and nothing else. A generalization that is very disprovable and just shows this guy tells how well a game is written solely on whether or not he laughs at the jokes. 2a. He constantly knows very little about the battle system and misunderstands a lot of aspects of it. There is strategy in sticker star's battle system with stickers like the Baahammers (to put enemies to sleep). POW Blocks (to crumple enemies and deal extra damage), Super Boots (extra damage for your next jump attack) and Tails (reflect some oncoming enemies and projectiles). Not to mention the Thing stickers like the Sponge and Powder Puff to soak up powerful attacks to the Boom box to increase your damage for the next few turns. 2b. He says that because you only get coins from battles (you don't just get coins, you can get stickers too, with some enemies dropping exclusive stickers) it's pointless to do them since you'll be "Stuck in a loop" and then later on ironically cries about having a lack of funds in order to buy Things in Decalburg and Door stickers in Outlook Point when fighting enemies would solve that. Not to mention he completely excluded the fact you get a lot of extra coins at the end of a level depending on the amount of enemies fought your first time through. He did this because he either didn't know this was a thing or he used a fallacy called cherry-picking where you exclude evidence to strengthen your point. 2c. Not ALL of the bosses require a specific Thing in order to be beaten. Goomba King is so easy that you can use anything at your disposal. Tower Pokey is the only boss that I can say requires a specific Thing but the fact the fight takes place in a baseball diamond should be a clear giveaway that the bat would be needed because no other Thing accessible up to that point in the game relates to Baseball. Gooper Blooper can be beaten very easily without the sponge with what is accessible to you up to that point in the game and on top of that is one of the easiest bosses to kill in one turn (side tangent: At no point is an Infinijump require for anything in Sticker Star and him making that claim makes himself look really dumb). Mister Blizzard can be beaten with 5 big shiny Burnhammers and really nothing else, this is excluded from the video because of either ignorance or cherry-picking again. Bowser is a very difficult final boss and may give people troublr, when they don't have a basic understanding of the battle system and the sticker they have at their disposal. If you cover all your bases (which can be done without knowing what is ahead) you can beat Bower without needing any specific Things. The final phase of Bower is also possible with Things but is actually difficult and not very worth it. 3. The "Puzzle game but every puzzle piece is the same size/shape" analogy is dumb. Every time a Thing sticker is required for a puzzle the game gives you a pretty clear hint on what is needed. It might not give you a map to the Thing required (which would trivialize exploration) but the game giving you an idea on what you need narrows it down by a lot, with it most of the time being narrowed down to just one specific Thing. This same thing applies for the non-Thing puzzles in the game (hints are given), like how to get to the treasure chest in 2-1 is hinted at in 2-4 (which he is leaving out because of cherry-picking again or he doesn't know what he is talking about). He also complains about how if you wanted to have Thing stickers ready for any puzzle you're bound to have to use them in a fight. This point completely excluded running as an option either because he forgot or is excluding it to make the bad point sound better, This is another example of cherry-picking evidence or ignorance. Is this enough of an argument for you? lmfao
@@gonzofett333 okay, the First point is more subjective, so I give you that but about the battle system: It's inherently flawed, as you said you can get stickers but at the same time you might not get it and making coins necessary for things makes It scarce, about the "Things" they're hidden way too well for their own good and too complicated, like there are bosses that are doable without things but they're way too tanky which makes stickers burn or way too hard however most fights require things to even progressive, the game wants to beat a fight in a certain way, there's a specific way the game wants to and about the Tower, it gives you an indication on the thing in the fight which means the game expects you to have the foresight to actually take the bat with you and you're picking your own experience as a base when you probably knew everything out of the hand lmao
@@Eric6761 The battle system is not perfect but I wouldn't say it is inherently flawed. It may not be as in depth as previous games but you are given reasons to fight enemies. On paper getting mainly coins from battles doesn't sound like much but it's the amount of coins you get that is the defining factor. You can max out the coin counter by the middle of World 2 if you fight most of the enemies something I found out and did early on in the games lifespan. When it comes to Bosses and puzzles, the Things needed for them are not off the beaten path and 9 times out of 10 you'll walk right by them. The Scissors, Fan, Faucet, Trumpet, Soda Can, Light Bulb, Baseball Bat, Bowling Ball, and Refrigerator are either in plain sight and virtually impossible to miss or you walk right by them in order to progress on any given level. The Vacuum, Fishhook, Radiator, and Goat are the exceptions and are somewhat out of the way but can be found fairly easily by exploring the levels. I know that not everyone is great at puzzle solving but if that is not your strong suit then don't play games that incorporate puzzle solving and most certainly don't blame the game for the fact that it is not a strength for you. As a kid I didn't have much issues with the puzzles and could figure out what was needed from the hints given, everyone is different and may have more trouble but not everything is the games fault. No shade towards this RUclipsr but I think that if you are reviewing a game you should do more that just a one-time playthrough of the game because it come off as either lacking knowledge or purposeful cherry-picking
Don’t know haven’t played. I sold this game to GameStop because it is sooo bland compared to the original trilogy. However, the new release of TTYD on the switch has me on a more hopeful note!

If you look at some of the Koopas in each shot they are in, some are either, short, tall or chunky. Which is kinda paper Mario styled.

Miyamoto is on record saying he dislikes Sticker Star and was incredibly disappointed in Bowser's portrayal in particular.

Honestly even with this video I still think the original Mario movie is the worst piece of Mario media as at least this game 1. Felt like Mario and understood at least an ounce of what Mario is and 2. Didn’t nearly kill anyone(Bob Hoskins nearly died several times during the movies filming)

I don't think that Sticker Star hates you. If you want to talk about a game that probably does hate you, then look at Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. That game actually hates me so I'm hating it back as Ubisoft clearly plays favorites with it's consumers and I'm on the short end of the stick.
I think this is one of if not the worst Sticker Star review i have ever seen on this platform lmfao. I've seen video reviews of Sticker Star where the person doesn't know too too much about the game but this video takes the cake, you made a video about why Sticker Star is bad while basically knowing nothing about the game. The premise of this video is very ironic when you think about it lmao

1. He says that people who find modern PM well written actually mean they found said game funny and nothing else. A generalization that is very disprovable and just shows this guy tells how well a game is written solely on whether or not he laughs at the jokes.
2a. He constantly knows very little about the battle system and misunderstands a lot of aspects of it. There is strategy in sticker star's battle system with stickers like the Baahammers (to put enemies to sleep). POW Blocks (to crumple enemies and deal extra damage), Super Boots (extra damage for your next jump attack) and Tails (reflect some oncoming enemies and projectiles). Not to mention the Thing stickers like the Sponge and Powder Puff to soak up powerful attacks to the Boom box to increase your damage for the next few turns.
2b. He says that because you only get coins from battles (you don't just get coins, you can get stickers too, with some enemies dropping exclusive stickers) it's pointless to do them since you'll be "Stuck in a loop" and then later on ironically cries about having a lack of funds in order to buy Things in Decalburg and Door stickers in Outlook Point when fighting enemies would solve that. Not to mention he completely excluded the fact you get a lot of extra coins at the end of a level depending on the amount of enemies fought your first time through. He did this because he either didn't know this was a thing or he used a fallacy called cherry-picking where you exclude evidence to strengthen your point.
2c. Not ALL of the bosses require a specific Thing in order to be beaten. Goomba King is so easy that you can use anything at your disposal. Tower Pokey is the only boss that I can say requires a specific Thing but the fact the fight takes place in a baseball diamond should be a clear giveaway that the bat would be needed because no other Thing accessible up to that point in the game relates to Baseball. Gooper Blooper can be beaten very easily without the sponge with what is accessible to you up to that point in the game and on top of that is one of the easiest bosses to kill in one turn (side tangent: At no point is an Infinijump require for anything in Sticker Star and him making that claim makes himself look really dumb). Mister Blizzard can be beaten with 5 big shiny Burnhammers and really nothing else, this is excluded from the video because of either ignorance or cherry-picking again. Bowser is a very difficult final boss and may give people troublr, when they don't have a basic understanding of the battle system and the sticker they have at their disposal. If you cover all your bases (which can be done without knowing what is ahead) you can beat Bower without needing any specific Things. The final phase of Bower is also possible with Things but is actually difficult and not very worth it.
3. The "Puzzle game but every puzzle piece is the same size/shape" analogy is dumb. Every time a Thing sticker is required for a puzzle the game gives you a pretty clear hint on what is needed. It might not give you a map to the Thing required (which would trivialize exploration) but the game giving you an idea on what you need narrows it down by a lot, with it most of the time being narrowed down to just one specific Thing. This same thing applies for the non-Thing puzzles in the game (hints are given), like how to get to the treasure chest in 2-1 is hinted at in 2-4 (which he is leaving out because of cherry-picking again or he doesn't know what he is talking about). He also complains about how if you wanted to have Thing stickers ready for any puzzle you're bound to have to use them in a fight. This point completely excluded running as an option either because he forgot or is excluding it to make the bad point sound better, This is another example of cherry-picking evidence or ignorance.

@@gonzofett333 okay, the First point is more subjective, so I give you that but about the battle system: It's inherently flawed, as you said you can get stickers but at the same time you might not get it and making coins necessary for things makes It scarce, about the "Things" they're hidden way too well for their own good and too complicated, like there are bosses that are doable without things but they're way too tanky which makes stickers burn or way too hard however most fights require things to even progressive, the game wants to beat a fight in a certain way, there's a specific way the game wants to and about the Tower, it gives you an indication on the thing in the fight which means the game expects you to have the foresight to actually take the bat with you and you're picking your own experience as a base when you probably knew everything out of the hand lmao
@@Eric6761 The battle system is not perfect but I wouldn't say it is inherently flawed. It may not be as in depth as previous games but you are given reasons to fight enemies. On paper getting mainly coins from battles doesn't sound like much but it's the amount of coins you get that is the defining factor. You can max out the coin counter by the middle of World 2 if you fight most of the enemies something I found out and did early on in the games lifespan. When it comes to Bosses and puzzles, the Things needed for them are not off the beaten path and 9 times out of 10 you'll walk right by them. The Scissors, Fan, Faucet, Trumpet, Soda Can, Light Bulb, Baseball Bat, Bowling Ball, and Refrigerator are either in plain sight and virtually impossible to miss or you walk right by them in order to progress on any given level. The Vacuum, Fishhook, Radiator, and Goat are the exceptions and are somewhat out of the way but can be found fairly easily by exploring the levels. I know that not everyone is great at puzzle solving but if that is not your strong suit then don't play games that incorporate puzzle solving and most certainly don't blame the game for the fact that it is not a strength for you. As a kid I didn't have much issues with the puzzles and could figure out what was needed from the hints given, everyone is different and may have more trouble but not everything is the games fault. No shade towards this RUclipsr but I think that if you are reviewing a game you should do more that just a one-time playthrough of the game because it come off as either lacking knowledge or purposeful cherry-picking
