Stryper's name is taken from the Bible Passage Isaiah 53:5 "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." It's referring to the wounds borne by Jesus during his Passion. Stryper mostly sang about Christian-related topics.
They are still rocking after all this time! Their new disks are just as good, but this album was what earned them worldwide notoriety even with groups and fans that weren't Christian! Check out the live footage from their Puerto Rico concert.
Yes Stryper was big in yhe U.S in the 80s. But ehile they could sell out 2000-3000 seat Arenas here as an opening band...it was Madison Square Garden size arenas in Japan...they were selling out stadium dize vrnues of 9000+ over there
I actually did see them at Madison Square Garden on the To Hell with the Devil tour in '87. With Loudness and TNT opening. Still have my shirt I got that night! haha!
@@krtaust5 What's weird is that I also saw them when they came back around '04 or '05, and they played a medium sized club in Boston. That place had a capacity of 1,200 people, and it was amazing to see them in such an "intimate" venue. (I actually caught one of their bibles they throw into the crowd that night). I think they were testing the waters a bit to see how well they'd go over because they've played much bigger venues since then. And they still sounded PERFECT!
Great band! They're still around 40 years later and can still sing and play like that!!! More please!!

Michael Sweet and Oz Fox are 2 of the greatest guitarist to live, in my opinion.

The lead singer/guitar player Michael Sweet just did an album with George lynch.
