Your advice/lesson is solid. Rewatched this video and your other trout videos. Caught my first trout yesterday and I did out fish everyone else. I landed 4 on powerbait and lost 4 at the landing on spinner, but still had more action than everyone else. Thanks for the video!

Half a nightcrawler threaded on a hook with about an inch hanging off is my all time favorite bait. In my 60 years of trout fishing nothing else comes close. Size 6 eagle claw hook.

I limited out here in NY,fishing the Rondout Reservoir at the foot of the Catskills. We went at midnight for opening day. I know you know your stuff Leo and I know YOU know spring bass love these lures. Try a 3/16 oz mini chatterbait, we landed a 18'' and 21'' Brown Trout held over from a few seasons ago. They swam right by my live shiner for the chatterbait.
I noticed in one of your videos of the trout fishing that the brown trout had slits cut in their tail is that something the fishery does to the trout to distinguish between naturalized and stocked trout it could’ve been just those few fish that had the slits in their tails

Very very good leo ,i have often found that finesse is a very effective tool to have in your Arsenal, yesterday I caught seven trout over at French Creek ( Scott's pond ).

Hey Leo later this month you should consider going to west valley creek near downingtown Pennsylvania I went there recently and caught almost 10 fish the fish being brook trout and rainbow trout and some rock bass😂tight lines and good luck this trout season😀😀😁

I use a similar combo an okuma celilo trout 6ft6 and shimano sienna 1000 and I use it for lures because it’s a taller ultra light rod

No problem! And yes -- that is correct, D G. If you are planning on catching and releasing Trout, the optimal situation would be to not even take the fish outside of the water. But when handling it, always with wet hands. Tight lines!

Jordi Romero I think theyre extremely sensitive to air and they also have a layer of slime on them that protects them from bacteria. If you touch them with dry hands it wipes that layer of slime off

I am a trout novice, I only catch rainbows not browns or brooks even though brooks are a type of char...
I have found the exact opposite tonbe true of stocked trout here in PA. Finese has little to do with success......"new" is what is important! I have literally caught dozens of "trophy breeder" fish on the LEAST finese setup possible. 2-3\4" to 4" jerkbaits are killer. Finese is okay....but for any pressured fish....a reaction strike is MUCH more effective.
As I have mentioned in this video, Jason -- finesse and light gear have to do with two factors: (1) how finicky the fish are; and (2) how pressured the body of water is. But those are, of course, factors for *hungry fish* (I should have been more specific). I know exactly what you are talking about, though, and folks tend to use Jerkbaits and big Spoons for reaction strikes. That is a whole different story when it comes to Trout fishing, and I will cover that topic in the future. Thanks for sharing!

When you talk about how once trout are caught and released it makes them harder to catch again. What I observed on opening day at the Pennypack were a lot of people catching 10-15 fish (and more) and then releasing them. Is it poor sportsmanship to continue fishing after you reached your limit on opening day? Shouldn't we be letting others have a chance? By the time I got there (late afternoon) no one was catching anything.

Leo, I love you, but some of the things you're saying simply aren't true. Brown trout are extremely aggressive. They eat crawfish and I catch them on bass tackle. Mono has a time and a place. If you want a slower fall rate, it's perfect. Sucks for spinners though. Too much stretch. Also, if you want to catch more trout, throw something they haven't seen before.
My favorite lures for trout are 1/16 oz Chatterbaits, Trout Worms(mini Senkos, $0.77/pk at Walmart), and ned rigs. No one throws these things in my area. They drink the 4lb fluoro, 3 lures for the last 30 years Koolaid.

I dislike when people catch a 20+inch stoked trout because it really doesn't take that much skill. They eat almost everything and they haven't learned. Not as much finess needed

Joe Weissinger $7 a lb for trout at stores keeping two trout pays for the stamp an I can catch 20+ on a good day totally worth it they will die anyway in the summer.
