@@Shreder3.0 It literally doesn't make sense Sonic CD happening after Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Tails started following wherever Sonic went after StH2, and in CD there's no fox friend. And before someone says that Sonic 2 came before, CD was at development AS THE SAME TIME, but was released after because the time travel idea scrapped from Sonic 2 was implemented in the game, i.e. delaying development.

Maybe because of the Badnik invasion which caused that every citizen remained locked in their homes) Past: Moonlight Downtown (The city has less buildings and there are mostly normal houses, the highway is under construction. For some reason, the growing city hired Robotnik Corp for the construction. Everyone knows that Robotnik has another purposes) Bad Future: Techno Crisis Zone (Cyber City, a metropolis leaded by the Robotnik Empire. Skyscrapers fill the enviroment at the point of feeling claustrophobic. SWATBots patrol the streets looking for a hidden resistance. Flying cars, blinding neon announces, and a red stormy sky) Good Future: Nighfall Splendor Zone (The city grew up, but instead of investing on Robotnik's wicked vision of an ideal future, they decided to preserve the natural beauty of the place, mixing it with the urban life hustle. The result of that, skyscrapers connected by parks built with glass, a clean sky with stars that shined like before the existance of the city, thanks to the new non contaminant power sources, at the point they can be visible at sunset, and, of course, neon lights everywhere, but without blinding)
Ohhhh, this one Is one of my favorites zones, I'd never imagine you would include it on remixes, I'm looking forward for the past, good and bad future versions!!!

It's because Sonic CD is the true sequel of the first game, and the zones reflect S1 zones (except QQ and WW).

I'm surprised about the jump from Sonic 3 to sonic 1, it almost felt deliberate in some way.
