Thanks Rex. I love playing podcasts! And it's so much easier playing them on my watch--paired with my AirPods while I'm at the gym! No more lugging the phone around so I can listen to podcasts--yippee!
Can you just control the podcast app on your phone using the watch? So the podcast is playing on my phone and I have pause and skip controls on the watch, without having to actually download podcast to the watch itself?
Yup, should work for a Series 3 as well as 4. Podcasts download to your Apple Watch to listen to without a cellular or WiFi connection. You can only download Podcasts to your Apple Watch when connected to the internet, charging and placed near your paired iPhone. It can take some time to download a podcast to your Watch, so be patient! Once you play a full (end to end) podcast episode, watchOS and iOS removes it from the Apple Watch to make room for any new or downloaded episodes.
what happens when you tap the cloud icon? Also check your Podcast app settings in Settings > Podcasts and look under Episode Downloads. Verify that Download Episodes is set to something other than OFF
Hi Andrea, we don't know the reason why Apple did this--but you cannot listen to Podcasts (or Music) using the Apple Watch Speakers! So currently, you need a Bluetooth device to listen to podcasts. We think the reason is due to the size of the watch speakers--they are just too quiet and tend to provide a much lower quality sound experience. So we think that's why you can hear phone calls via the built-in speakers but not music or podcasts (which should have excellent or at least high quality audio!)
Serge Ghio - had the same problem but finally figured it out. Make sure that you are a subscriber to the podcast that you are attempting to sync to your phone. Also when syncing ensure that your watch is connected to power and near your phone. And then download the podcast to your podcast app on your phone. After that you should see it show up in the watch app on your iPhone.
As long as there is space on your watch to download podcast episodes, you should be able to listen to podcasts while away from your iPhone. You must use watchOS 5+and have an iPhone 5S or higher with iOS 12+
It syncs the shows and most recent 3 but can I have it install custom ones? I’m working through the backlog of 99% invisible

Amanda Whittenberger can you only listen to podcasts on Apple Watch with a Bluetooth headset? Or can the watch play the podcast through its speaker?
SkyDigital I’m pretty sure it can play through the speaker. Not sure about Bluetooth, but I assume so. I’m getting my phone tomorrow and let you know!
Doesn’t work at all
Can i use apple watch with Samsung phone?

Yes, just like with music.
Thank you
Are podcasts available offline on the series 3 Apple Watch as well? Or just the series 4?

AppleToolBox Thank you for your response!
i want to download the specific episodes of especific show and not download the latest 3 episodes or 10
My watch never downloads the podcasts they’re always a cloud next to it
what happens when you tap the cloud icon?
Also check your Podcast app settings in Settings > Podcasts and look under Episode Downloads. Verify that Download Episodes is set to something other than OFF
AppleToolBox I’m having the same issue pushing the cloud does nothing
The watch only downloads the episodes while charging and near to the phone, the same goes for music
Are you able to actually listen to a podcast from the watch itself? Instead of a Bluetooth device!?

I think we all know the reason why the watch’s internal speaker is not an option! ............AirPod sales!!!!!
I can't get this to work. It should be simple, but it ain't...poor design and UX/UE Apple

For real! I did just what this guy said. Bullshit. Bullshit. I am so angry with this damn watch.
This guy sounds just like Dave Ramsey
Can I listen to downloaded podcasts away from my iPhone on the Apple Watch Series 1?
