if you cant have large factory you cant mass produce your product. they are just released their first model and 1st suv model. they will most likely going to drop some affordable model in future hence the expansion.
@@rogerrussell9544 there's a level of product value. if i say 100k for Richard mille watch it would be considered cheap/affordable watch. same thing when i said 50k for lucid it would be affordable for its EV category.
Lucid bringing Cory from Munro into their team gives me some hope. I felt the distraction of building a factory in Saudi Arabia was a pure power move on the part of the Saudi investors. Not truly in the best interest of Lucid, but since SA has a big chunk of Lucid, hard to say no. The positive of SA money is they likely were a key part to bring Aston Martin and Lucid together since SA is the second largest stake holder in Aston Martin. Hearing their "affordable" Lucid model is years away is probably realistic, but will mean the competition will be very tough by the time they get into that segment of the market. I believe the more companies fighting to win over consumers the better it is for the consumer. Going from a niche company to a high volume large builder will be a monster sized challenge.
A company that puts innovation and hard work into their business deserves to be successful! The companies that think about money and get greedy will stay behind. Mercedes, VW, BMW, and many more! They were ahead .. not any more
I wish they had good customer service & better support for the items that are not under warranty until they have good network of service centers across USA. For the segment they are targeting, customer good will will take them to spread the word of mouth marketing.
Please explain why Lucid needs any more production capacity when it is only selling 60% of the cars it is producing now. The industry are saying that demand is weak and weakening further, especially for sedans. If they really are spending money to expand production, they might as well buy more dumpsters to burn the cash more efficiently.
It is mindblowing how much money they dare to invest, with these sales numbers. Let's say they sell the same amount of Gravity's/ Air's as model X did last year in the US, around 20.000 > selling $1.6B > With a profit margin of 20% = $320 million profit. Compare that to their annual cash burn of 2/3 billion. Even if the sales double or triple, I will not see this company being profitable before the end of this decade.
Who are you tonysoprano1454? Lucid is a publicly traded company; either put a link, picture of the proof, or a well documented breakdown of your 10 cent comment to show you statement has any grounds, and maybe then your comment may gain some needed traction.
It appears that the Lucid Air is as luxurious, on the inside as any top brand competitor. Why could they not sell that luxury car with an ICE engine, maybe under a different name, to enable car enthusiasts to enjoy the car but at a lower price, while they continue to get their EV dominoes, in place.
"Lucid Motors delivered only 6,001 of the 8,428 cars it built last year, as it continues to struggle to generate demand for its luxury electric sedans" Lucid is in the wrong market sector for this economy. Normal people cant even afford a $50k dolllar vehicle when interest rates are currently %5-7 let alone the $77k starting price on their Air model , so unless the new SUV Lucid is making is somehow cheaper than their current lineup (which I doubt) then all we are seeing here is a giant pile of investor money being lit on fire as normal families will still not be able to afford or purchase their products. The salary of the CEO vs. the success of the company is an entire other indicator of the direction that this company is headed.
When you look at the luxury EV segment (EQE, EQS and the new BMW i5), there is plenty of room to gain market share. The Lucid Air is very advanced compared to the conservative BMW i5 and the mediocre Mercedes EQE, both are sold from around $80k to $140k and are really behind in interior space (BMW i5 is cramped, the EQE is not much better) and luggage space. Performance wise the Air is much more efficient with a significantly longer range. Interior finish of the Air is on par with the BMW i5 (BMW set a step back in this metric), but only slightly behind that of the EQE.
@@DBGE001 IMO they are all rip-offs waiting to fail... NONE of them know how to do EV car software so they ALL "brick-up" and then its a nightmare as the techs are never properly trained... These cars are for FOOLS !
@@DBGE001 I dont disagree that the Air is a fantastic looking car and likely needs to cost what it does to cover the luxury features and the R&D of the new line. The key difference between Lucid and those other brands is that Lucid's sole source of revenue is selling the Air. Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes all have other established vehicles in other markets that can sustain losing money on a luxury EV. Ford has the money printer that is the ICE F-150 which they can and have used to subsidize losing a little money when they sell a Mach-E or a Lightning. Lucid is running almost entirely on investment money and sales from its primary car, so when one of those two sources of money is barely propping up the company it puts a lot of stress on the other. The question is how long will investors tolerate the company's poor sales numbers. If the company gets a bad reputation for poor sales no sane investor is going to bother giving them more money to burn. Good products should sell themselves and at the end of the day customers pay for the entire show, if you are making something that no one is buying that is simply not a sustainable business. I love EV's and I wish Lucid luck but from the outside it doesnt look good for the company. The optics about their CEO getting fat paychecks while their sales are in the tank is also not helping the brand.
You would think there are more than 6,000 people in this country who can afford a $80,000 vehicle. Just here in SoCal I would guess there are tens of thousands of ICE vehicles over $80,000.

The Saudis are surely only hanging on, hoping for a take over bid.
Looked at the lightning today on a lot. Super crew cab. Beautiful but too big for what I need. Just bought my first F150 lightning so new to EV. Love your show very informed and one of the best I’ve seen so far. Is there a recommended minimum charge for F150? I’d appreciate any help on this or if you have one that you’ve already talked about I look for it but couldn’t find it.😊
I own two EVs (BMW i4, Lucid Touring) and only charge both to 80%, which is the recommended charging limit. You only need to do 100% when travelling long distances (for example, from state to state). Charging at 80% will preserve your battery life. I've never had a situation with local driving where it's been an issue as far as range goes.

To be honest, you can beat Mercedes, I’ll give you that. But you will never reach Tesla’s level in your life. The Air costs almost twice as much as the Model S and even the stripped-down version of Air is not comparable to the Model S and is still more expensive. It will take you forever to lower your costs and Tesla will not wait for you. They are already planning their next move. So the old good times of zero interest rates are long gone. Now profitability is the most important
@@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney What kind of twisted logic is that? The S & X sold 68,874 units, and Lucid sold ~6,000. Those sales were not production limited either. Lucid made thousands more cars than they could sell. Oh, and Tesla was making a huge profit, vs. Lucid selling at a loss.
Where is the criticism for Tesla when they spontaneously slash prices and destroy resale value for their owners? At this point, I would buy a gravity or and air over a model s and x for that reason alone. I’m sure some people will argue “well they have to be competitive.” Um, it’s called new models! Have more consideration for the early adopters who put their faith in your brand.
As a current EV owner, would I consider a Lucid as a next EV purchase? Possibly, but I want a vehicle with some space/carrying capability and the Air has a small truck opening. If Lucid does come out with a mid-sized "SUV", and can still provide the longest range in the market, it would get significant consideration. Real life 400+ miles in that form factor would be impressive.
@@grizzlymartin1 Tucson has a large aquifer that we have been recharging every possible chance for over a decade now. Tucson also implemented water conservation efforts starting in 1975 and we now use half as much water per resident as Scottsdale uses. They will be fine as long as it keep raining in California, but if California needs more water, they have first dibs on everything Phoenix gets from the Colorado River.
Aston Martin is practically a part of Mercedes Benz group. The latter is running on lots of investment money from Arabic peninsula. The same is to be said about Lucid. At this point, for investors from the same geographic area it made sense to suggest cooperation between ultra luxury brands Aston Martin and Lucid in order to trickle technology to Mercedes Benz later. A 50k USD Lucid SUV can potentially massively increase production in Lucid branded EVs. That definitely makes all the ducks walk in a row for Lucid motors. Providing the considerable depths of above mentioned pockets, Lucid will achieve its growth goals.

Peter always underdelivered dramatically on any forecast or promise he made in past 3 years. He only pumped up the share price for a short time with his statements.
Most manufacturers have stated 2025 year models will be equipped with nacs. I would assume lucid would try to do 2025 as well or face being behind all other manufacturers.
Lucid doesn't play around with low range. EV's should have at least 400 miles of range and Lucid gets that, while Tesla is still stuck on the 300 mile number.
@@Resist4- big range is big weight and especially cost. If the real world DC charger spacing gets reduced to 25-50 miles between chargers, as is with gas stations presently, then a range which exceeds 250 miles isn’t necessary. Interesting that aero of a Lucid is a top consideration, since that helps to reduce weight and cost - very important characteristics when designing a luxury EV.

Tommy Molo's a serious journo with a well earned reputation in the EV Sector, so he can't risk "sullying" his good name by asking unserious questions in the company of an AUTHENTIC ENGINEER like Rawlinson and other Professionals. like what do you want, for the man to be "Black Listed" by the entire Auto Industry...? unfortunately for better or worse, Solid State Batteries rank DOWN there with using Hydrogen as a fuel type, Cold Fusion, and Super Conductivity at room temps.
They need to support charging at the supercharger Network which is the only reliable Network around. Unfortunately the only way to make that practical is to split their 800 volt architecture into 2 400 volt architectures at least from the standpoint of charging and they seem very reluctant to do that. That's essentially how the Cyber truck charges quickly despite an 800 volt architecture. Peter's well documented mutual hostility with Elon is unfortunately an obstacle to this kind of synergy
If you have the opportunity in the future. Try asking them why they haven't entered other EU markets? The demand for the premium class is there. For example, the EQS outsold the Model S and Model X in our market in 2023.
Projected 90k vehicle capacity per year, for the entire plant, over 3 model lines? 🤔🤔🤔🤔. Seems very limited to me. Looks like they would want the gravity to sell 100k units a year just by itself. Good thing the desert money is unlimited. Lots of losses for years/decades to come. Smh.
Exactly, this was the key takeaway from the video: max capacity of this plant at full ramp is just 90k vehicles across 3 models. Nuts 🥜 That type of volume isn’t going to spread the fixed costs wide enough to make a profitable vehicle.

Saudi fund PIF investing in EV battery materials/mining and other component sectors and also signed with Taiwanese EV makers for their own EV brand called cheer. establishing these EV for local sector to grow. lucid would be able to grow in Saudi easily with the help of government support and also Saudi they will buy 100k in 10years period for their own country. that factory is more likely for that as an long term thing for them and if lucid succeed with future model they may expand that facility for export in gulf and other Asian countries.
He didn't need more capacity, he needed more customers.
if you cant have large factory you cant mass produce your product. they are just released their first model and 1st suv model. they will most likely going to drop some affordable model in future hence the expansion.
@@stalin1489 Most likely EV and affordable don't go in the same sentence.
@@rogerrussell9544 there's a level of product value. if i say 100k for Richard mille watch it would be considered cheap/affordable watch. same thing when i said 50k for lucid it would be affordable for its EV category.
Excellent Tom!
Great interview. Peter Rawlinson really knows his stuff. Great vision of their future

That’s capitalism. 🤷♂️
I wish they had good customer service & better support for the items that are not under warranty until they have good network of service centers across USA. For the segment they are targeting, customer good will will take them to spread the word of mouth marketing.
That was a great interview.👍
Great news peter I will be buying more lucid stock
I want a Gravity more than I want a house!
Great 👍 job on ur interview very impressive now i know where the money been spent to. Possible that Aston Martin company might buy them too
great questions and interview
I think when Lucid Gravity comes to the production line, it'll have a much better offer to buyers than the Porsche Macan EV.
Lucid Motors CEO was paid $380M salary in 2022
Who are you tonysoprano1454? Lucid is a publicly traded company; either put a link, picture of the proof, or a well documented breakdown of your 10 cent comment to show you statement has any grounds, and maybe then your comment may gain some needed traction.
It appears that the Lucid Air is as luxurious, on the inside as any top brand competitor. Why could they not sell that luxury car with an ICE engine, maybe under a different name, to enable car enthusiasts to enjoy the car but at a lower price, while they continue to get their EV dominoes, in place.
Great video!
Do they need the space to build the 60 year diamond batterys for there next gen car?
I want a lucid gravity. If they can make enough I'll buy one
Saw a preview of one today in AZ. Absolutely beautiful vehicle inside and out. This will be a big seller!
You are looking so good and healty!
Stop sexually harrassing him ! 🤣
Rivian and lucid should combined
The only problem I have, since the beginning, it’s the price.
💯

I still remember Peters promotional video from a couple of years ago. They were doing everything the same as, but better than, Tesla. That didn't happen. No supercharging infrastructure, no battery storage, no mass market cars, bugger all sales, no profit and losing heaps of money every year. The Saudis are surely only hanging on, hoping for a take over bid.
Looked at the lightning today on a lot. Super crew cab. Beautiful but too big for what I need. Just wish Ford was smarter and took a page from Rivian to give the Lightning some ACTUAL grow clearance bonafides. I use my vehicles for off-road stuff. Can’t justify buying the lightning as much as I like it. I’m bummed.

The US Gov needs to invest into electric infrastructure. Currently, it is headed toward 3rd world status.
Taxpayers who don't ever want to own a EV should not be footing the bill. Let the private sector handle it. This is not a communist country.
@@JamesAnderson-lq8tf Currently and over the last century, tax payers that don't drive pay for roads and oil infrastructure. Stop with the moronic comments.
@@JamesAnderson-lq8tf No, I agree, but states should invest into it how they see fit. It's obvious now that EVs will not work well in every climate. What is it with this "not a communist country" crap? I never said it was. Usually communist countries do not have modern infrastructure. They have 3rd world infrastructure, which is where we are headed because of mass uncontrolled immigration.
I own a 2023 Lucid Air Touring. Without hesitation I can say that it is the most enjoyable car I've had the pleasure of driving. Okay, it's actually my wife's car. But she lets me drive it. I drive a 2016 GMC Canyon pickup, and I let her drive that when she wants.
When it's time to sell my GMC Canyon I will replace it with an EV pickup, no doubt. At this point the Rivian R1T is my choice. Maybe Lucid will have a pickup in the works one day? Oh, I hope so. And no, I won't even consider driving that other company's ugly refrigerator. No way.

Just bought my first F150 lightning so new to EV. Love your show very informed and one of the best I’ve seen so far. Keep up the good job I do have a question, my son-in-law owns one and he says I should only charge the battery to 80% so I don’t overcharge the battery is this true or is this fault.? Is there a recommended minimum charge for F150? I’d appreciate any help on this or if you have one that you’ve already talked about I look for it but couldn’t find it.😊
I own two EVs (BMW i4, Lucid Touring) and only charge both to 80%, which is the recommended charging limit. You only need to do 100% when travelling long distances (for example, from state to state). Charging at 80% will preserve your battery life. I've never had a situation with local driving where it's been an issue as far as range goes.

Gravity brings you down.
Gronday, Tom. Casa Gronday.
Nope. We actually talked about that on this trip. It's pronounced Grand, not "Granday".
@@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney Nope, former Casa Grande resident here. The town was named after the Case Grande ruins which are located in the town of Coolidge. The ruins were named by a Spanish explorer and pronounced with a Spanish accent "Gronday". However, many locals started calling it Casa Grand but Casa "Gronday" is the formal and correct pronunciation.
But Lucid outsells both Mercedes and Tesla in head-to-head sales (Air vs Model S and EQS sedan).
I am just curious. Have no plans for buying EV.
You need to put glass canopy in every trim that you offer. TESLA has that in their cheapest cars. Gives them an advantage.
LETS GO LUCID LETS GO AMERICA! (yes I know they’re backed by the Saudi’s8
How when their stocks have absolutely collapsed? Not to mention most people don’t want EVs.
You can do better benefits for the company if you take less salary
As a current EV owner, would I consider a Lucid as a next EV purchase? Possibly, but I want a vehicle with some space/carrying capability and the Air has a small truck opening. If Lucid does come out with a mid-sized "SUV", and can still provide the longest range in the market, it would get significant consideration. Real life 400+ miles in that form factor would be impressive.

But just don’t know where the southwest is going to keep getting their water. Especially Arizona. Yikes!
@@grizzlymartin1 Tucson has a large aquifer that we have been recharging every possible chance for over a decade now. Tucson also implemented water conservation efforts starting in 1975 and we now use half as much water per resident as Scottsdale uses. Casa Grande and Phoenix Metro cannot say the same, and they get a lot less rainwater than Tucson.
Gorgeous car I think it's really going to be a competitor for Tesla. Great more upscale demographic. I bought a lot of stock to hold for at least 3-4 years.
After Gravity I think they're planning a lighter, smaller, golf-like car. That will go well with their plan of bringing down the cost for the average consumer.
Is this company going to be the Solyndra for battery cars??!!! Solyndra had $570 million of taxpayers' money and built thousands of solar panels they couldn't sell and had to warehouse and they were totally trashed when the company went belly up!
Let's see what the burn rate is for this company with minuscule sales and how long they can keep it up before the CEO taps out??!!!🤣🤣👍👍👍

When is Lucid having NACS on their cars?
They will transition, but haven't announced just when
Most manufacturers have stated 2025 year models will be equipped with nacs. I would assume lucid would try to do 2025 as well or face being behind all other manufacturers.
If Lucid want success they have to bring
to US market small SUV with 300mi EV range
If they did a small SUV, it would probably have a 450 mile range.
The full size one (Gravity) will go about 450 miles. @@stevenjudd2383
@@Resist4 re: "Lucid doesn't play around with low range". exactly, "low range" is a feature for those building Power Wheels not Lucids (no slate to the Engineers at Mattel and Fisher Price). 😉
Why expand, nobody is buying the ones already made.
Nice interview but I wish you'd ask to about going to solid state batteries.
There's really no need to ask that now because there's really no solid pathway to start using them and Peter wouldn't be able to answer that honestly
There's nothing like being a contrarain!
👍👍👍
I thought Lucid was going bankrupt?
No, that's not the case - at least in the foreseeable future
They cant sell the cars the make now. So whats the point of making more?
Why are they expanding when the demand is dead. Who they gonna sell to Santa Claus. LOL.
Lucid needs to buy Tritium for their EV charging technology!!
Bankruptcy soon. Expensive sedans was dumb idea.
