sacking poch who got them 6 places higher than last season to maresca who’s one of the most inexperienced managers on a 5 year contract is the most Chelsea thing ever
You aren't wrong, but the numbers (and our eyes) tell us Poch had no style. The team presses and tries to turn you over, then it's all hero ball. It wasn't about the season we had, it was about what was coming. Also remember, most fans wanted him out months ago. I applaud the ownership for ignoring the regency bias and doing what they believe was right, even if it is unpopular.
tbh joe i took your presenting for granted at football daily, after the split up and your cameos on the channel nowadays has made me realize that you’re actually a quality presenter and analyst. keep doing your thing mate

As a Chelsea fan I must say you were really spot on with this! It’s very rare to find someone like you who doesn’t support Chelsea but still use real knowledge of football and spit facts, which is a big relief to watch. Keep up the work bro!

haven’t finished the video yet but i’m just going to give some feedback on maresca’s appointment. in my opinion, it’s very easy to get a basis understanding of a situation going on at a club. however, most of time (atleast how it should be) fans of their own club are going to know more about the ins and outs of what is happening. there were good moments under poch and there is no denying the players loved him, but the “spike” in form towards the end was papering over the cracks. the forest and bournemouth games specifically come to mind of results that we didn’t deserve due to performance, but we actually got some luck at the end of the season. compared to earlier in the season when we were playing better but having a bunch of unlucky moments/mistakes. this along with virtually every game being a basketball-style up and down match isn’t sustainable regardless of entertainment.😂 drawing to sheffield and at home to 10 men burnley cost us champions league. whether maresca is the guy or not, who knows, but poch was never going to be the guy long term. i would rather get maresca in and actually allow him to grow with the sporting structure surrounding him. i am excited and hope he has success. also, love the content, joe!
joe i think that d. Datro fofana doesn't need a loan he can be a back up striker.. As Chelsea are in a ffp problem , its good to not buy another striker when we have 2..ik tht they're not very experienced but we can count on their techical abilities.
As a match going fan this is a much better list than expected... in fact I think I might agree with everything you said besides which FB will invert... I see it as a Colwill LB inverting into a 3 with Badiashille and Fofana, and Reece at RB going into the midfield with Caicedo, have Mudryk and Madueke holding the width with Enzo and Cole between them, and then Jackson up front (using the players we have currently).
Yeah, I did mention Levi inverting. But I'm not sure that'll be as a DM. I think he'll form part of the 3 if that's going to happen and James will have to move into midfield (we've seen him do it at Wigan lol). Really interested to watch this play out.
@@joethomlinson_ Colwill getting LB experience this year to help him there out of possession as well as Reece's experience in midfield are both gonna be crucial. Plus Reece in midfield reduces the amount of miles he's putting into his legs not bombing down the wing and will hopefully mean he's on the pitch more often.
Maresca and Kompany will be the underdog Managers next Season. Right now nobody knows if Bayern and Chelsea are being reckless with their decisions or if they're actually upgrading. Let's see...
New to your channel, and i have to say I'm absolutely loving your content. I love the analysis and how you seem like a genuinely sound guy who just loves football. Keep it up 😊
As a die hard Chelsea fan, let me compliment you on your PERFECT list. Seriously, this was so well done. Obviously a lot of us don't want to see Gallagher go, but you clearly take into account the reality of the situation. What you had to say about Sterling, Mudryk, and Jackson's situation and abilities was spot on. Happy you recognized Caicedo’s actually great season. Honestly well done on this one mate.
How have I just found this channel now? I've not come across a youtuber who knows ball like this guy. As a Chelsea fan, I found myself agreeing with every single thing he said.
Would love to buy Joe a pint and talk about football. Appreciate his pragmatism and analysis, think we’d get on well, even though I’m a Liverpool supporter
i’m a chelsea fan, i don’t agree with poch’s sacking but at the same time even when we won games we still played terribly, i personally think the players miss him more as a man manager and person rather than a tactical coach, i think maresca can deliver better tactics and get more out of our players but we just need to give him time and hopefully the owners don’t just sack him when we start to play well again
Chelsea fan here. When Poch was sacked, I shared similar feelings of disappointment in the ownership. However, I think that the end of the season shouldn’t be the only way we remember Poch’s time at the bridge. Progress was made, but we conceded the most goals ever in a season. There is also rumors of his training leading to heavier injuries, and he did not get along with the board. I am not saying I am totally for BlueCo, but Poch understood and agreed on the hectic project. Towards the end of the season, he switched his opinion on everything and was demanding things that the owners already made clear would not happen. Moresca seems very interesting, and I’m excited to see improvements in the defensive areas. Great vid as always Joe! Keep up the good work.
Good to see some respect for Chalobah. Had some injury troubles but one of most consistent Chelsea players when fully fit and think he often flies under the radar.
Dude that guy sucks !! Not just that he also exposes caicedo to attacks when they play together. Caicedo plays much better whenever he plays with Conor so yes he sucks man , be honest with yourself
Selling Disasi when he is a more than useful rotation CB? Also, he is overhated cos he was mostly solid this season And you don’t loan both Santos & Ugochukwu, you keep 1 of them for depth especially in the UECL Also, I agree about selling Chilwell but unfortunately can’t see a market for him cos who is going to buy a 27 year old injury prone player on 190 a week wages who got given a 2 year contract & the vice captaincy last year? And for Maatsen, there is realistically no way back for him at Chelsea especially after the comments by his dad
Fantastic video Joe, been a Chelsea fan for 10+ years and always loved your content regardless them Man U ties. This one hit though, keep the videos coming bro!

People clearly didn’t watch Chelsea most of last season we were frantic at the back and dog shit. We didn’t even look that great in a lot of the games in that 5 game run
I agree except switch disasi and benoit and then id also keep some of the loan guys in house. Either that or pull up more academy guys. Its good to have depth and to be able to rotate the squad especially when you have the fitness and injury issues chelsea does
Only thing I will say is my understanding of the maresca system is that there is no bombing forward wing back. One tucks into midfield and the other tucks in to create a 3rd centre back. Therefore I struggle to see how Ian maatsen will fit this. Both Cucurella and James are 100% fits. Also unsure about gusto quality player but can he play one of the two above roles. I guess we will see The other thing I will say in terms of ball playing goalkeepers would you not say that kepa is the most natural fit?
Joe talks considerably more sense than Rory Jennings and Joe isn't even a Chelsea fan. Great video joe. Thanks for making an intelligent resourceful video with good thoughts behind your decisions and observations. Not much i would do differently to be honest. My list of players Ins and outs is below.
I mostly agree with this squad but the only thing i would change is to keep disasi , chilwell, and Sterling. Kepa would be a good back up keeper but i agree with usi g petrovic as the number 2 and bringing a new world class keeper in. I thought broja would have world class forward potential in him but that Fulham loan + injuries killed his growth in becoming a world class talent so shame to see him on the leave category but correct decision. Also to add with the napoli comment i would love to have a lukaku, oshimen swal deal as both forwards have had parts in their career where their despised their clubs actions towards them and this deal would work brilliant for both parties. Also to point out Hakim Ziyech is still apart of the club but we can defo agree sell category and also the likes of bashir Humphreys, mason burstow, angelo gabriel, and new signings estaveo willian and messinho would all fall in the loan category. Poch leaving the club was because of the boards stupid decision but i belive enzo moresca will be a brilliant replacement as he will bring the pep Guardiola style football just like he done at Leicester and could link similar with arteta at arsenal. Therefore with the right business and with out any ffp bad consequences Chelsea should have a brilliant season to look forward to. (I am a Chelsea fan if you think this is biased). UP THE CHELS!!!
Whether you’re firmly ‘Poch out’ or you felt he deserved more time, I feel that nobody mentions the fact that Chelsea are so desperate for stability and cohesiveness. Regardless of Chelsea’s history during the Roman era, the truth of the matter is that we are still a team full of kids (most in their 1st or 2nd full year of senior football). Of course we had some shit results in the first half of the season, everyone was trying to gel together and learn a new managers tactics - that doesn’t just happen overnight. To me, it makes perfect sense that towards the end the season we were playing better as relationships were established and the players felt more comfortable with their duties and roles. I guess this is my long-winded way of saying that I believe Poch did enough to deserve to run it back next year. Before the Poch sacking and the FA Cup Final, this was the first time in a long time that I felt truly confident and hopeful for Chelsea’s future going into the offseason… now we’re back at square one all over again. I’d kill for some stability right now.
I agree with every single decision as a Chelsea fan :D Very good take on the situation and we 100% need that starting GK and a backup striker for Jackson, as Nkunku hasn't been able to stay fit, I do have a feeling we might keep Casadei at the club as he has worked with Maresca like you said and he might have him involved in his plans! :) Great stuff though!
As a chelsea fan i think he is an upgrade. The last 5 games papered over a really bad season imo. People forget that without those games we wouldve been bottom half. There was a lack of identity and i think our personel will benefit from possession based football instead of transitional football and i hope his style will lead to the sales of people like chilwell and gallagher
I agree with your entire list except for one pick: keep Sterling for 1 more season to help Mudryk. If you look at how Sterling went from just a pacey winger (Mudryk currently) to a good dribbler, solid finisher with decent vision, I think that's how Mudryk needs to develop. Mudryk just has pace and flashes of quality here and there, decision-making is often questionable, but all the qualities to become a world-class winger given time and the right advice. Maresca will help develop his game and Sterling as a senior winger and winner at City will also help Mudryk grow as a player. Sterling has been given a lot of unnecessary stick, but one more season to help the team as a senior player, provide cover in the squad, and ideally raise the amount Chelsea would get for him, I think he could leave in 2025 with his head held high and a few suiters in England and the rest of Europe. That makes 21 players in the squad. They then just need to buy one solid CB, ideally mid-20's who can slot straight into the 1st team and be a leader for the next 4-5 years; and a striker to compete with Jackson, ideally (but not likely) Osimhen who can be the main man, help Jackson grow as a out-and-out CF, and also lead the line for the next 4-5 years.
That Madueke penalty incident gets way more attention that it deserves. It happened once and it's not like it's some completely unheard of thing in football
Watch out for Reece James to shock us all by actually staying healthy. Ricardo Pereiras injury problems were just as bad in the previous few years and I have a feeling Enzo’s style of play contributed to his lack of injuries last year. Reece playing as an IWB could save his career
How I see it is - more modern proven tactics but with a less experienced manager. Poch is full throttle physical game plan which didn’t fit this squad who I think would prefer a more technical coach. In that sense sure it fits but can he deal with the Chelsea pressure we can only wait and see
Surely Maresca will now be under immense pressure to finish better than Poch because otherwise I feel like Chelsea fans will be asking questions about the appointment. Also, with his football, if Chelsea are not winning, Maresca's football is very difficult to watch at points, I feel as if there may be a chance the fans turn on him, especially with how prickly he is.... Let me know your thoughts!
This feels exactly like when Blackburn hired Brian Kidd which ended in tears. Chelsea need 5 players. Osihmen,, Alphonso Davies, Arauju,, Pickford and Olise. Sell Sanchez, Maatsen, Broja, Lukaku, Sterling, Kępa, Hall, Disasi, Ziyech, and unfortunaelty Chillwell, Chalobah and Gallagher if needed. I could accept losing Gallagher if we bring in Osimhen and get a marquee signing. I'll cry if he goes to Arsenal or Utd.. Loan out Casedei, Gilchrist, Santos, Angelo, Matos, Stutter, Castledine, Hutchison, Willian, David Fofana and Washington, and let our new hotshots train with the first team like Kendry Peaz, Kenedy and Messinho,, We're close to having a competitive squad to push the top 3.
Suspect the Sell column needs to be caveated with Sell (if you can)... it will be very dificult with the financial situation for the club to sell any players that will book an accounting loss. As such I can see the likes of Sanchez, Kepa and Sterling remaining because you are unlikely to be able to command fees of £22m, £10m and £30m respectively, on top of the wage packets that other clubs will need to give them
Im not totally sold on anyone that's not Jose Mourinho. I am unsure about Moresca and rightfully so because the guy is unproven. But seeing as how he signed a 5 yr contract, I hope this means it's a rebuilding process. I am backing this guy all the way regardless of my doubts. I am a Chelsea fan and id rather be proven wrong about my doubts than be proven right.
It’s a risk but it’s a risk that could work, with Pep leaving end of this season or next he could fill that gap with similar tactics. Or he could be completely found out and be the next potter. Using Leicester as an example is difficult because his tactics need the quality of player to play it. Either way I think the other Enzo will be a totally different player under Maresca.
Then of Course if the owners had any sense they would have kept Poch for the whole of his contract if he doesn't finish higher than 6th again and won no cups then they would have an excuse perhaps then to let him go and if they were smart they might have courted Pep to come to Chelsea for a new Challenge Then Everyone would have been happy
I'd be gutted if we sell Conor but that's not even the main issue. The fact that his price tag still didn't budge over 50 mil after the season he had hurts me. If you're gonna sell a talented English player who's had a brilliant season, you gotta sell him on a high price
The owners don’t care who the best players are. They have blown away so much cash that every academy player needs to be sold off. Others players would have to be sold at a loss so that’s why they are staying, regardless of ability
I didnt support the Poch sack but its done and i like what Maresca did with Leicester. We just manage our expectations but there is a chance of this union working. Now to ur list. I think you sent too many out on loan. We need depth in some areas and not only quality but quantity. So i would keep Ugochwuku. He has been with the team and when he played he was far better than we thought he would be. He can be a good backup for our midfield especially knowing a good offer for Gallgher will see him go. I would keep Datro. Even if we get another established striker, Fofana has tasted the league and is better growing here than keeping Deivid or another youngster. He will get sufficient gametime from bench and with european games. Now if we sell Sterling and do not buy Olise, then Hutchinson should stay. I would not sell Disasi either. History has shown us that all defenders from other leagues struggle in their first season. Rudiger did, Silva did. Give Disasi a chance under a different coach. Even with Tosin coming in, i will keep Disasi.
It will the most stupid thing that the recruitment and owners could do Another Huge mistakes just like their ones selling players to Man City and Liverpool I Wonder if Chelsea fans could name those players
i hate hate hate this move for the club im sure maresca has good ideas but poch felt like he was finally clicking with the squad and learning how to get the best out of everyone (look at caicedo and cucurella especially) and a complete change of system feels like it could do more harm than good
with maresca i feel like he'll really like enzo fernandez and we'll finally unlock the best of him. I haven't watched a ton of leicester but i have a feeling enzo will get a ton of playing time.
sacking poch who got them 6 places higher than last season to maresca who’s one of the most inexperienced managers on a 5 year contract is the most Chelsea thing ever

Lovely!
Interesting shout…
Looking fresh in that Barca kit joey 👌what year kit is that ?
As a Barca fan, i can surely say that the shirt looks absolutely fab on you !
I’m glad Joe got his own channel I wonder if your old mates from football daily got their own channel??
Really enjoy these videos, im a aston villa fan, would like to see you do a video on our squad
That Madueke penalty incident gets way more attention that it deserves. It happened once and it's not like it's some completely unheard of thing in football
Joe GOAT of youtube football!
I don’t think Gallagher will be technical enough to play JDP but I’d rather not sell him ngl
Watch out for Reece James to shock us all by actually staying healthy. Ricardo Pereiras injury problems were just as bad in the previous few years and I have a feeling Enzo’s style of play contributed to his lack of injuries last year. Reece playing as an IWB could save his career
Chelsea gotta focus on those injury issues, it's been a major problem this season .
Sterling will stay unless Chelsea brings in a talented wide left player
Sterling has experience with the system....Mudryk may struggle...
A really balanced outlook....rare to see on yt
Loving the Barca top m8🔥
How I see it is - more modern proven tactics but with a less experienced manager. Poch is full throttle physical game plan which didn’t fit this squad who I think would prefer a more technical coach. In that sense sure it fits but can he deal with the Chelsea pressure we can only wait and see
Joe: slags Barca at any given opportunity
Also Joe: wears a Barca kit
Monumental upgrade on Poch!
Chelsea all season:11th
Todd boehly:👍
**Ends 6th**
Todd Boehly:😨
Beautiful video, beautiful energy.
The barca kit looking too good on you 🔥
not sure about this appointment tbh... sure he got Leicester promoted but he almost bottled autos!!
From certain corners - yes. But internally maybe not. It depends how much he's willing to work with the co-SDs.
Thanks for doing this!
No bias but straight facts Joe. I absolutely agree with everything you said
Controversial opinion but Chelsea should try and buy zinchenko and Jesus from arsnela
Top video uncle Joseph!
I just can't keep watching after you said Gusto is REMARKABLE and one of the BEST young full backs in the WORLD 0.0
Any link for the tier list?
As a Chelsea fan, I 100% agree with your analysis.
As a Chelsea fan, agree with most of these picks - Maatsen should 100% be our first choice LB
Please do one of these for Brighton when they appoint
damn that barca shirt really looks proper on you joe
Chukwuemeka will be the Dewsbury-Hall role
As such I can see the likes of Sanchez, Kepa and Sterling remaining because you are unlikely to be able to command fees of £22m, £10m and £30m respectively, on top of the wage packets that other clubs will need to give them
You look really good in a Barcelona shirt Joe
14:58 too advanced? He was constantly too far back, when he was stepping for one of 2 central defenders
I think you forgot Angelo Gabriel who was on loan at Strasbourg and Gabriel Slonina, both probably to be loaned again tbh
I didn’t include every loanee otherwise would have been 45+ players haha
@@joethomlinson_ fair enough 😅
New manager not an upgrade at all. Absolute joke decision
Can you do one of these in forest and arsenal pls!😅🎉🙏
As a Juve fan, haven't heard the name Maresca in more than 20 years.
was he good for you lot?
Haha! What a throwback!
Chelsea should keep Gallagher at all cost, if they let him go they'll regret it
It will the most stupid thing that the recruitment and owners could do Another Huge mistakes just like their ones selling players to Man City and Liverpool I Wonder if Chelsea fans could name those players
@@michaelrowe3511 these were Jose f ups
i hate hate hate this move for the club
im sure maresca has good ideas but poch felt like he was finally clicking with the squad and learning how to get the best out of everyone (look at caicedo and cucurella especially) and a complete change of system feels like it could do more harm than good
I think they might be able to get top 6 next season with this new manager.
Joe gets about 8 times more views on this channel than FD does now 😭😭😭
It's time for Chelsea to be firm in selling players who play sometimes well, sometimes badly, like Sterling Mudryk, who is chilwel out Borja
I love Chelsea man. They are the gift that keeps giving. Pure entertainment
with maresca i feel like he'll really like enzo fernandez and we'll finally unlock the best of him. I haven't watched a ton of leicester but i have a feeling enzo will get a ton of playing time.
