    • @jimflan1712
      @jimflan1712 7 месяцев назад

I think a major clear-out is required for two reasons -
1). Klopp was overly loyal, and maybe also because we had no SD in post, and the end result is that we have far too many players on the books who whilst not dead wood (though we do have a few of those), are clearly not of the standard we need.
2). Slot will want to bring in some fresh blood, and in any case we have clearly reached the end of the road with Salah and also need to sell Nunez and/or Diaz if big offers come in for them. So, we will need to raise money to help get quality replacements.
Matip, Adrian, Thiago will all be released. Then there’s players that are never gonna make the grade at Liverpool, that we should sell or even just release if need be - Rhys Williams, Arroya, Baligizi, Corness, Norris, Koumetio, Stevenson, Ojrzynski and Hewitson.
Then there’s players who we need to move on as they are just not going to be top-grade, and are now blocking the path of more promising players - Tsimikas, Jones (Clarke is already better, McConnell may become better and Nyoni will def be better), Phillips, and Morton - this group of players could raise us £50-60m or more, which will get us a very good player in defence or midfield.
Then comes the first team squad -
Kelleher will want away so I’m assuming he’ll be sold (I’d be delighted if he can be persuaded to stay, but I think he will go so we need to get a good GK back up, and promote Pitaluga, Jaros or Davies to #3 GK).
Salah - a spent force and if we can get good money for him now we must.
      Tsmikas - covered above, sell.
TAA - I think if we can get a lot money for him now (and we should be able to) then we should. I’m not even convinced he will sign a new contract - he might think the time is right fora change and a move to Real (who he would be a sensation for). Here, I just don’t think we can tolerate his defensive weaknesses any longer when we can use Bradley, and although seeing him in a double pivot is tempting I am not sure he has the legs or the fighting mentality for a midfielder in the Prem.
Konate - love this bloke, but he is too injury prone and with Quansah, Gomez and Sepp Van De Burg, I think we have enough for RCB, and can raise a big amount for Ibou.
VVD - get him on a new contract asap. He is obviously keen, and Slot will need him in the transition - both as the player (still one of the best if not THE best in the Prem) and as a leader.
Diaz and Nunez - not convinced by either. Love their work-rate and passion, but the cutting edge is just not there, and we can’t afford 2 Bobby’s in the front-line (par if we are to move to 4-3-2-1). So, if a big offer comes in for either I would sell.
Doak - he needs a loan at a high level (top Championship or even a Prem side) to get the required game time and match sharpness, and also work on some of the weaknesses we saw.
Bajcetic - he can transition into the 6 as his spot by covering for Endo and coming on regularly in 2nd half plus playing cup games.
Ramsay - like Doak, need to get a full season under his belt at Championship level. Another option would be bring him back him and play regularly for the U21s but we’d then need to put Mabaya out on loan …
Gordon - play him as much as possible as an understudy to Mo if Mo stays - it is time now for Kaide to step to the first team squad and he could save us a lot of money because the ceiling on this kid is sky high. If Mo goes, it will be a little trickier, as Slot will use the money to get a top level player in who might not like coming off after an hour in most games.
Dann. - would love to keep him and get him on regularly in 2nd half, but it might be too much too soon, so maybe a loan to a Championship side would be best.
Clarke and McConnell - proper first team squad players now.
Carvalho - keep him and play him as a No 10 (I think Elliott or Szobo will take that role, but Carvalho can be the understudy and bring something different to it as well - he def is more of a goal threat than either of them). If he fails to step up, then we can sell him next summer (same with Doak and Ramsay).
Robbo - I think we can get 1 more season out of him, but I think he will be getting replaced a lot more than he is used to, as his defending is just as poor as TAA’s.

harvey elliot’s best role is from the bench to expose exhausted defenders with his energy and focus on getting the ball forward as often as possible… imo in football now more than ever its actually desirable to be a bench only player, at least for the club, because subs are more important than ever and having that unique profile of sort of ‘go and win the game’ player without a fixed position suits that perfectly

    • @Ruscococo1

Needs to be more productive on the ball and have a better end product, so many times he is in a really good position then shoots the ball way over, in the stadium it's frustrating as he's done it and hasn't grown this last season. I 100% agree with what you said about Szoboslai, and I'm with you on Salah (unfortunately). I love Szobo, but I think he's out of place in the midfield. He was a winger at Leipzig and I think he could replace Salah, or even be a false nine if Mo stays. He doesn't seem to fit in with Endo and Maca, and we have so many young midfielders. I think he's got the size, skill, and precision to hold a prem attacking slot, and I really hope Slot moves him up.

    • @Smoke-Plays
      @Smoke-Plays 7 месяцев назад

Honestly I think when klopp bought him it was with the idea that he would eventually get moved out to the right when Mo left. He put in solid performances when he played as a rw at RBL.
I think we should sell mo and move szobo out to the right. Then use the money to buy Frimpong and move Trent into CDM.
Then we splash that caiceido money buying one of barca’s 5/6 world class CM’s and buy a good center back to replace VVD.
      Diaz, Jota , szobo
      Maca, Trent, (Pedri/De Jong)
      Robo, vvd, Konate, frimpong
With the sail of Mo salah we could add the 100 mill we know we have and get this done easily.

    On Salah:
1.) Are we sure he wants to play in Saudi Arabia? That’s a complicated topic.
2.) Are we sure he wouldn’t accept a small wage cut?
3.) He would be assist leader of the Prem if Nuñez could score.
4.) On his ability to morph into a “provider” role, why do people write him off as lacking creativity? Is the English Premier League a league known for classy defending? Not really. If the only difference here was that Salah played for Inter Milan, yes he would be a definite sell. I’m just not convinced that the Prem is a very difficult league to break down defensively. Salah can do it. If you are hesitant to call him a genius, maybe ask yourself why that is.

I agree that the season of Szobo was somewhat disappointing, however, I think there are a few factors to note. As you also mentioned, a lot of it was mainly tiredness; with so many injuries and red cards at the beginning of the season he really had to step up and put an inhuman amount of work in -- what he also did. Then, after his injury he couldn't pick up the pace that well. But in his first premier league season it's very much understandable, especially if we consider that he was played in a very different position. He is an attacking midfielder, a Nr. 10 and not an 8. And finally, if the attackers would have scored in the perfect passes he made his confidence and all of our opinions would have been very different -- I imagine it is super annoying when you do all the work but then Nuñez misses the unmissable.

"The transference of skill from the Eredevisie to the Premier League is huge..." Folks talk about this point endlessly as if the Premier League is full of highly skilled managers and is super competitive, in reality, it's only Pep and Klopp who've won the Premier League since 2016-2017, when Antonio Conte was the last non MCFC/LFC manager to do so. In a competitive league, it wouldn't be so dominated by MCFC. It's a risk with any new manager taking over from a club legend like Klopp, but it just as easily go swimmingly. To give Ten Haag credit, he has won a domestic cup and a European trophy in 2 years at Man Utd. Even Pep would struggle with their squad, so drawing critical observations about the quality of Dutch coaches is a but OTT, I'm an LFC fan and I'd have been happy with a league cup and Europa League in one season under Klopp, when I think of how everything has crumbled this season!

Disagree with you. I would keep Daans. Seen what he is capable of, love his figthing spirit ( like Diaz) and would give him mintues next season.
Keep Kostmas Tsimkas as well. Solid back up to have and produces 7 out of 10 most times. He loves Liverpool too much.
We would be lucky if Kelleher does stay best second choice goalkeeper to have.
Endo as good as he has been for us. Underrated it is a 50/50 with him. Szobo too needs to be more influential too but defo Szobo stays.
    Agree with you with Nunez.
At the same time I wouldn’t let Salah go. He produces insane numbers each season and is constant. He has improved his all around game and his passing range is soo underrated as well. But like you said yourself, it would be hard to down £100 million too. It is a massive fee for his age. But I do think we will plan with Salah next season and will be our main man.
Gomez has been impressive to be fair but I think a new challenge would be good for him and need a new replacement for him.

you agree that a player that has 32 goals involvements in a bad season 🤔should go, than let him improve his shortcomings. Yes he missed lots of chances so is Harland the difference is that one player takes penalties for his team to maintain his confidence plus he singlehandedly won us 6 point. U just gonna ignore that he was carrying the team when salah was at afcon having 7 goals in 8 games. U just gonna ignore that he has 16 assists and Liverpool win more games when he is playing. all of that just for u to feel good about yourself.

I seen what Nunez can do and can’t do. Nunez causes chaos with his pace and unpredictability in attack . He won us 6 points yes but did cost us points too that’s the reality.
Nunez got lots of basic things wrong too can’t simple stay onside and misses many sitters too. Also you need to remember klopp this season played a very attacking football which is why he does have 32 goal involvements.
If you ask me will he won is the premier league or the Champions League, the reality is no he won’t.
But it Arne Slot thinks he can improve his abilities and his end product, than I’m happy to back the whole and support them till the end.
It’s just soo frustrating watching Nunez at times

The difference between Slot and Ten Hag, De Boer and Bosz is that they were from Ajax, which is by far the richest club and (apart from De Boer) they had a squad at the start of their tenure which should win the Eredivisie. Slot came in after Dick Advocaat barely got us into the Conference League qualifiers. Slot went on to nearly win it with limited investments. The year after he did invest and we won the league. This year we only lost to PSV who were exceptional. We got more points than last season. Slot isn't like De Boer, Bosz and Ten Hag.

  • @tomspreadbury2915
    @tomspreadbury2915 8 месяцев назад +5

As a Liverpool fan here's what I would change from Joe's answers:
Sell Kelleher - since we're expecting he will force a move. At this point in his career he should be starting for a mid table PL side, and he seemed to angle for a move last summer too.
Sell Gomez - not because he's bad but because it looks likely we will sign Geertruida, who, like Gomez, is a utility man across the entire backline. He's younger, better and more reliable. With him in the side under Slot he'll be getting a lot more minutes so we'd probably be better off selling Joe to another PL side for £40m or something like that.
Keep Carvalho - Part of the reason he's out on loan is he's an AM, Klopp doesn't use AMs. Slot does. Expect to see him rotate at AM with Elliott and Szoboszlai
Keep Salah - too good to sell even now. He's in bad form, but you wouldn't be saying sell based on his pre-injury performances. Yes he might be playing too many minutes - it's a good thing Slot loves to have a lot of wingers then. Salah will be rotated a lot more under Arne than Jurgen which may preserve his performance levels for longer in the long term. I agree if we get £100m offers we should consider selling, but we should squad-plan without the initial intent to sell.
Sell Diaz - his family is angling for a move away, he's on a lot less money than other first teamers and while he's been great, he still hasn't met expectations. We can get a large fee for him and use it for the rebuild. Additionally, Slot will most likely use Gakpo as a left winger, so Diaz may want to get more minutes elsewhere
Keep Doak - he was getting PL minutes this season. Slot loves to use and swap wingers. A definite keep as he might be the long term heir for Salah. The reason he hasn't played much is a serious back injury.
Keep Danns - because I think we should sell Darwin, and he's already too good for the championship.

I don't agree with selling both nunez and salah at the same time, likely either sell neither of them and work through a full season under slot or sell one (and prepare to lose the other)
There's bound to be some transfer activity in defence and it doesn't make sense to do the same in attack by reducing starter options to 3. You argue szoboszlai can fit into the attacking position when necessary, but he's still mainly a midfield option and liverpool will need at least one or 2 options off the bench to the attacking positions.

Besides the Salah situtation I'm still not sure about Nunez on one hand I want to see him try it under Slot in a new system - I think that he is similair to Giminez in a way as a real targetmen. Szobo has also provided at least 50 game winning passes, most have been wasted upfront. I have also noticed that Salah would very rarely pass to Szobo, heck knows why. In the Bundesleague they played very slick , creative soccer, lot of passes, no selfishness, in such environment Dom strives. I would love a more traditional #9. We have so many creative players, or players able to get the ball forwards, so a man to get on the end of that would be perfect. Jota if he's fit, but imagine someone like Toney on the end of Trents crosses...

There’s not exactly many quality right winger in the market now, and there’s none, available or not, who is capable of the numbers salah produced in the last 7 years. Yes he’s getting old, but he’s still fit enough to play at the highest level. Even if the saudis offer liverpool 100m, I struggle to think who can really replace him. Adrian is a keep. You’d need to buy another third goalkeeper otherwise which wouldn’t make sense. Adrian plays a bigger role in the club than people think, as a Spanish speaking veteran he isn’t really there to play week in week out, he has a big impact off the pitch (especially for non-english players like Lucho and Darwin) which will be very important with a new coach and new staff coming in!
As for Bobby Clark, Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho, I expect them to stay in the squad even though we’ve got plenty of depth in that double pivot. Loaning them out to a PL side to get experience could be good but Clark has already proven himself and deserves some minutes (especially in cup games) Morton deserves some minutes after his amazing season at Hull and Carvalho could excell in that 10 role under Slot.
Salah I thought the same a while ago, but since his talks about a contract extension I actually don’t mind him staying. There were starting bids of €100m from Saudi up to almost €150m and I thought SELL as quick as possible but him staying one more year in a new system could help our ‘rebuild’ and I’m sure Saudi won’t mind spending those 9-digits a season later. Also, I think Salah could have an interesting role in this 4231 not only as a RW but also as a 10 or even a 9.
And my biggest disagreement, JAYDEN DANNS! Instead of buying a new striker, I believe Danns will be that guy! Under Slot he can thrive in that 9 role. Technically gifted, great finisher, works a lot of the ball and just looks so passionate! Has it all to become a phenomenal striker. Slot puts a lot of trust in the youth!
If we do receive an offer worth > €75m offer for Darwin we could think about selling but I believe he could still be great and we should keep for atleast one more season. It’s a new head coach, new season, new style so who knows what’ll happen!
With the rest I completely agree, great content! :)

@@scottyh1238 I know. That’s why I said > €75m. I don’t want him to leave (yet). He’s got something to prove to a new manager in a new system and I’m sure he will. But yeah, if some crazy club goes on to bid over €75m than we should no longer hold on to him.

@AntJay-hp5gp He’s more than just a translator smh, older players are needed because they help develop youngsters with their experience and knowledge.
And there’s a difference between a third goalkeeper and a midfielder. Adrian knows he won’t play a lot of minutes, but he’ll be there to help others. You can’t just put Milner and Hendo on the bench all the time, we offered them to stay but they didn’t want to lose their game time to youngsters

    • @Larsd69
      @Larsd69 8 месяцев назад

@AntJay-hp5gp I did get your point tho… As I said, I know Milner and Hendo had to go because they wouldn’t get minutes. They shouldn’t have that role as mentor because they still want to play football. Adrian doesn’t mind not playing so he can have that mentor role. Plenty of players have adressed that the likes of Adrian and Thiago have helped them towards becoming better footballers. So Adrian does play a role in this team without having to play.
That’s something you can’t do with on field players, they need minutes, that’s why I said there’s a difference between a third goalkeeper and a midfielder.
When you look at all top teams, third goalkeepers are just experienced veterans 90% of the time. Because they still feel like they have a role but they’re not at the level anymore to perform at the highest level. You can’t put young goalkeepers as your third option and expect them to sit on the bench game after game. They need time to improve, that’s why players like Marcelo Pitaluga and Harvey Davies are on a loan instead of on our bench as our third goalkeeper
      City: Scott Carson (38y)
      United: Tom Heaton (38y)
      Chelsea: Betinelli (31y)
Arsenal f.e. have a 22 year old as their third goalkeeper. He’s played 0 minutes for Arsenal this season which is bad for his career. I guess this was because Raya was on a loan but I expect Karl Hein to leave in the summer.
