I interpret the Pink Steven to be the embodiment of Steven's power coming from the Gem. All that held in power, once being Pink Diamond, now being just Steven. Normal Steven is just the human side that has started to grow up and mature and build a personality. He needs the gem because it is apart of him, he is the fusion between human and gem.
I wouldn‘t name Steven a fusion because in the episode in which Pearl, Garnet and Amathyst took Steven away from Greg, they showed us he wasn’t a fusion in despite of what Garnet thought

I mean technically Rebecca has stuff planned out (according to the art book) plus plenty of untouched information and stuff exists. I know we’re getting a movie but when a new season comes they’ll still be stuff to work out. Yeah this is what SU was renewed up to for the initial plot but we’ll just have to see what happens :/
Well we still have homeworld to deal with. And I'm pretty sure after thousands of years the diamonds aren't going to be completely good right away. Also the cluster and the forced fusions are still a problem... And there's multiple gem colonies right? So we might see some of those. There's a bunch of stuff that can still be done!
So looking on that ending, it is a bit disappointing that the Diamond's are getting off with just a slap on the wrist. They were necessary to cure the corruption, and there really isnt any being in gem society to hold them accountable. So we just have to see where Era 3 takes them since Homeworld still has a resource problem. ON another note, Steven now has an army's worth of gems on Earth now, which means there should be a threat big enough to require it. Plus with however many gags over the season of Beach City being "Like 15 people" They could have gems move into town and we could see some that actually wanted to interact with humans like Rose did. Plus there's still the partial unresolved notion of Bismuth being the gem who Poofed Lapis to bring some drama into things.
Regardless of any else there is to come of the series, I still find this the sort of finale of Steven universe as most of the important stuff of the series is done and there was a resolution to the diamonds and Steven being his own true self with the powers inherited by pink

Why are they singing something as upbeat as *Drive Your Van Into My Heart?* Yeah, it's their manager's song, but there are other songs in his discography. *Comet* would be a better fit imho.
Mt assumption has been that they were playing an encore at that point. Sadie was still done up in her horror look, so they must have still played their original content. Plus, it's the old hometown show, so you have room to go offbrand to tribute your manager if ya want. Plenty of theme bands have played outside their normal sound for special shows. ...Also, I have the headcanon that they practiced it in secret to surprise Greg with.

People say this was all rushed, and to an extent it was but it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. It was a great episode and a great "finale".
