    Made it to ~week 8 (2012) before I had to write an essay. I filled my milk cup up over 3/4 full in the chow hall and got ripped apart for it (didn’t know that was a rule). Submitted my essay for “failure to uphold the standard”. Our platoon was on duty the weekend I turned it in so we didn’t stay out for liberty. GySgt woke me up in the middle of the night (Saturday into Sunday) and made me come into the office to read it to him out loud. He RIPPED me apart because I wrote “THIS UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS OFFICER CANDIDATE” too many times. Lol He told me I needed to do it over and it was due the next morning. I’m convinced they had a white board with how many essays each candidate had. I was skating by with zero and my time came. Good memories it seemed some candidates had essays every night.

    Honestly I think the middle-of-the-night fire watch shifts are the best. Nothing happens, SIs aren't yelling at you, you get sleep before and you get some afterwards.

      I disagree, but would be happy to put you on the 0100-0200 watch schedule😂

    Great content. I was wondering if you could make a video on how much time candidates have for individual stretching/ injury prevention. Or how you stayed healthy for the full 10 weeks

    When I went through in Carlie Co 2006, we got on average about 4-5 hours of sleep per night. The number 1 reason for that were essays. But, back then a candidate could be assigned up to two essays per day for any reason. They were always due at 0500 the next day, they must be exactly 300 words (no more and no less), only words of four letter or more actually counted, and each word needed to be underlined and counted. The essays were always in pen so if you messed up a single word you had to rewrite the whole page. God help you if you didn’t do your essay because the Sgt Instructors always remembered and would come looking for missed essays. Often they would look for the missing essay in your footlocker and wall locker, and usually your rack mate’s too.

    Just met with an oso and I am excited to start the journey. Can you talk about leadership in the Marine Corps?

      Good luck. Specifically what about leadership?

    • @dabsyy
      @dabsyy 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@MrJoshHodge This maybe too nuanced for a RUclips comment. Essentially, how to be a good/effective leader when it comes to the Marine Corps. What the corps looks for in an individual. Caring? Strong? Intelligent? Tough?

      @@dabsyy Understood. I will make a video on this. Be on the look out

    I just went to PLC juniors.
    In terms of sleep the worst bit was during SULE week. I had firewatch the previous 3 nights in a row so I was already pretty tired, Then we get to the bivouac site and our PLT SGT assigned firewatch himself instead of letting the scribe do it so I got firewatch again, but it was from 23-00 so i got fucked again. I got like 3 hours of sleep that night because they made us wakeup at 0345 to be ready for the 4 mile hike. I was deadass falling asleep while hiking the entire time. Then we did SULE in the afternoon and everytime i posted security i was snoozing lmfao.
