As a NZ'er. There's this kids book saying how the kiwi lost their wings. Something about the gods needing a creature to eat out the plague in a forest and doing so with their future generations.Then the kiwi volunteered and that's how we got the kiwi today.
Thought it'd be fun to share a lil story. :)

@day4162 Hi. The book I was looking for was made in the 1960s. But I did some looking and there is this book called "How the kiwi lost its wing" by Alwyn Owen (2008), an updated version. Sorry for getting back to you late and hope this helps. :)

The strange, flightless kiwis all look much the same. They have a stout body covered in soft, hair-like plumage, a slender, curved bill, and no tail. Unlike larger flightless birds, kiwis have 4 toes on each foot. These nocturnal birds are native to New Zealand.

Those poor kiwis are going through so much because of what humans have done to their environment, Oh God please help them as you help ever other bird or animal, or man.
