This whole review was awful. You spend way too much time talking about unrealistic stuff nobody cares about. Why not talk more about the premium Carl Zeiss lens? Or spend more than 3 seconds talking about the video quality and autofocus on both? These are premium point and shoot cameras. In other words for people who don't want to haul DSLR's around. So then why are you complaining about not having DSLR features? Nobody is going to use this for a professional shoot. 0:34 - Rubbish. No Smartphone camera is as good as even a base model powershot. 2:31 - A camping trip? How often does your audience go camping? 5:18 - You say these cameras aren't 'pants pocketable'. Of course you can. Not everybody shops at Uniqlo you know. 17:13 - No apps - who cares? Time lapse? Who is going to do time lapse shoot with these cameras?
A few Year old now but I love my Olympus XZ-1, f1.8, small and compact, great accessories, great in low light, low noise at high ISOs and just great photos. Having owned DSLRs in the past I would not go back unless I was getting really serious about my photography.
Thanks guys! This was a very useful video. My parents where looking for a new good quality point and shoot, and after showing them this video they bought the RX100 III.
Now this is such a comprehensive review. I have no words. The guy on the right should just write thesis and dissertations on the comparisons between the two camera. Well Done!
It would have been really nice to see what the Cannon touch screen does at 9:39. Looks like someone edited your video on purpose. So that kind of destroyed your comparison and leaves the viewer in the dark on a very important issue. So.......I'll go find a different comparison video to judge which of these is the better choice. Disappointing to say the least, especially on a 22 minute video.
Bought the G7X instead of upgrading to current Sony RX100 generation. Manual focus and auto focus on the G7X is just a pain. Front clicking wheel is totally useless. Focus peaking is a lot less exact than Sony RX100. Autofocus sucks, as I found many missed focus shots. People who buy this class of camera wants (1) ability to control the shot and (2) pocketability. Canon just won't do (1). Still trying to see if I can get better shots before giving up.
For me: Sony wins on EVF, more customizable controls, Zeiss lens (better lens), more angle of screen, easier to use wi-fi. Canon wins with longer telephoto, touch focus, and manual exposure dial, ability to take stills in movie mode (not too important to me though). I went to an a camera store with actual camera pros (unlike Best Buy where they don't know anything) and he recommended the Sony because the lens glass is superior. The EVF swung me to Sony, but I really miss the touch focus. The other aspects of touch screen I actually find annoying because I end up touching it when I don't want to change anything. Based on the many reviews I've read, seems like DSL users who want a second more portable camera go for the Sony while P&S users who want to step up and get better image quality go for the Canon.
You could get through this review a whole lot faster if you didn't have BeardMan interrupting constantly just for the sake of interrupting. What an annoying nuisance.

Got some decent shots of one soaring this way, using a trekking pole / monopod jammed into my waistband to steady the camera, but to allow for smooth tracking. There's a 3rd mission that will have to wait until summer, banded demoiselle damselflies have made an appearance locally. They are really hard to get a picture of. Regular dragonflies will just sit on a leaf and pose, the banded ones don't sit still if approached, so that box needs ticking.....

Excellent video, with the exception of the video having a problem if I am not mistaken at 9:37. I've spoken with quite a few people who do have this camera and believe this is excellent for taking videos.
16mm is basically 5/8". 3/4" would be about 19mm. I have an older Canon S90. It has been great. There are limitations with it and things that I wish were different. But, for something that fits in a pocket the pictures it can take are just fine for me. I agree, G6 is a really great option. check out eoshd, they do really good reviews on video. or if you are able to get your hand on a second hand GH3 in your price range, that would be a good option as well.
+Jimmy Ngai Hello I want to buy a camera to start my vlog. I will shoot videos indoor but also externally while I travel so dimensions are quite important to me . Which camera would you recommend around 500 dollars? Thank you in advance
Both of those fit easily in my pants' pockets. I could most likely put it in there along with my phone and my Nintendo 3ds xl, which is huge by itself. My pockets came with a portal to narnia.. xD
There is actually a significant difference between the image quality of the Canon and the Sony. The Sony is better in terms of photo, video and usability. Check all the comparisons on your computer, best to be seen on high res screen (720p and up). Olivier One only need to listen to videos here in RUclips shot with each cam to hear the difference and compare. Show me one review where they say the Sony has better audio. Bet you can't, because it doesn't. Also, see: ruclips.net/video/pt0nkhbrpQ4/видео.htmlm7s
I'm all for cameras, quadcopter, 3d printers, and computer reviews but wow that seems like your only content! Widen those horizons, and you'll end up doing the same for yourselves personally. Take a few products from Kevin kellys catalog outside your comfort zone. After all tested isn't only for electronics. You're taking the safe route!
I think your preference is pretty old fashion, old school. I think the majority of the viewers will be more "modern" its unfortunate that your preference like touch screen and manual control does not sync with improvement in technologies ...
Because Sony are better. Canon keep using old sensor tech, Sony are beating them in every category for image quality. Check dxomark to see how lacking Canon are, even the new 7D Mark II has a worse sensor than entry level Sony cameras.
The RX 100 mk. iii is a great camera, I truly enjoyed working with it even though it was just for a couple of weeks. A bit expensive for what is. imho. time will tell what happens when a real competitor arrives. :)
Hi guys im shooting with my iphone can ask any suggestions on a camera that would be a step up on a mobile phone, i want to practice manual mode thanks
whats with that one camera angles video quality, is that a webcam? lol. Besides that, great review, thinking about buying the sony myself for vlogs I just want to find a good deal on it
no.. both of them are point and shoot camera.. no interchangeable lens.... but for around 600 USD these are the best you can put in your purse and carry everyday.
yeah, but not poketable.. I can fit my rx100 in my jeans pocket, no sweat.. try to take your a6000 to Rio de Janeiro... risky.. not as discreet as the rx100 :)
νικος γιώργος "Otherwise great video" really??? The tester totally blows over the ease of the touch screen to focus because "he's not really into that." It's a major aspect of the camera dude! He was trying his hardest to show how difficult the ring is to use as a focus when all you had to do was touch the screen!!!
You're right about the "he's not into that" its funny, but the touch focus is a given. If someone decides to build a ring that acts as a focus ring they should build it to work as it was supposed to work not hinder performance. But even big companies make mistakes.
i'm sorry, you need to get schooled about the powershot G line. They came out more than 15 years ago introducing competitive enthusiast compact cameras to compete with european brands. The G7x is the next iterative to compete with Sony. Remember when Sony had it's proprietory Sony Memory card? It failed hard! Before the RX, tell me the last Sony camera-only you would say was industry worthy? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_PowerShot_G
kinachahue www.wired.com/2010/08/sonys-transparent-mirror-cameras-repackage-1965-canon-tech/ Many manufacturers have borrowed from one another at times of their past, which is a result of innovation.
I know, I like Canon, just teasing a bit. They have lagged behind the last few years though when it comes to simple things like 60p in video on their dslrs and crappy dynamic range in their sensors.
DSLR? Mirrorless is better in the APS-C range and has completely leapfrogged the DSLRs. With the exception of the 7D Mark II IF you are shooting wildlife and sports, otherwise even the 7D II loses to the Sony a6000 for image quality. Besides that, these 1" sensor cameras are perfectly adequate and far superior to smartphones.
This is soooo boring! If you just remove the "mmmmm" from the conversation, the whole video could be significantly shortened. Be concise and add value. Just because this is considered a point and shoot, does not mean that we need someone to read out loud the manual. Think out of the box and provide commentary on complex shooting situations where one can relate. Maybe you should have called this clip "Read Aloud Manual".
What really annoys me about your 'tests' is that the guy on the left seems always to be so patronising and argumentative. Remind me of the 'FUJIGUYS" where the oriental man does all the talking and the white guy is a waste of space.
Who really cares about shooting manual in video! Holy crud have you seen the auto video mode in the Canon. Look around every young person shooting a Vlog is using the Canon. Go ahead and throw down the extra money for the Sony!
Who's the a-hole who edited the canon's flip screen portion of this video?
This whole review was awful.

Why do I always get the feeling that they hate each other? No chemistry at all 😕😂
What the hell happened at 9:38 in this video when they were talking about the canon tilt screen?
I've actually told them but I doubt they even caught that mistake.
A few Year old now but I love my Olympus XZ-1, f1.8, small and compact, great accessories, great in low light, low noise at high ISOs and just great photos. Having owned DSLRs in the past I would not go back unless I was getting really serious about my photography.
Thank you. If I can give some constructive criticism, you should cut down the banter and focus on what we are watching the video for.
What kind of yoga pants do you wear that the rx100 can't fit in your pants pocket?
Thanks guys! This was a very useful video. My parents where looking for a new good quality point and shoot, and after showing them this video they bought the RX100 III.

This seemed more like a G7X review more than a comparison
Are these guys filming using a webcam? Serious its 2015 this is supposed to be a professional channel.
arbit3r the quality was fine
Bought the G7X instead of upgrading to current Sony RX100 generation. Manual focus and auto focus on the G7X is just a pain. Front clicking wheel is totally useless. Norm (2015) -- "I definitely prefer the smooth ring".
I looked at similar format cameras when I was camera shopping recently. Admittedly I had a lower budget, but compacts are pretty impressive. I ended up with a Bridge Camera, as none of the compacts in my price range had a view finder, and that was a must have for me.
So far the Bridge camera has worked out pretty well, it's ticked off two photo missions, one, getting a picture of the local Heron, it's quite skittish, and is easily disturbed, so the 30x zoom on the new camera meant I could stay back and get the shot I wanted. 2nd we had three pairs of Buzzards move into one of the local country parks, and this is where the viewfinder came into it's own, I could sight over the viewfinder to track the Buzzard in flight, then acquire it in the viewfinder and complete the zoom.
Regular dragonflies will just sit on a leaf and pose, the banded ones don't sit still if approached, so that box needs ticking.....
can you guys do the same video but with the g7x mark 2?
There's a reason why the Sony ring is not clicky: you can use it in movie mode without your soundtrack becoming all "click, click".
I have own the S90 in the past, and currently own the RX100mkIIII. I really like the EVF on the Sony, flip screen is super useful from the way I take photos, photo tend to be on the cooler side. But I really like the touch to focus capability on the canon, also prefer the click to change focal length, maybe I'm just use to it cause I used the S90 for quite a while.
It started with some confusion about which one had the 'Zeiss' lens, and think that Sony, as a very progressive manufacturer have kept the main architecture for several editions of the RX 100 series for a long time, which is a measure of its quality..
correction, sony did have a few dslr before developing their slt technology, with the slrs which they inherited from purchasing konica minolta, having the letter a followed be 3 digits i.e a100, a200, a700, while the slts having only 2 digits i.e a33, a65, a77. Both of them utilized the same mount and lens system.
Hi there, can you tell me the battery lifetime for shooting videos? (a couple hours?)
In case any one is interested the canon is much better at auto focusing in video but the sony is better in manual mode...
What's the cheapest camera with a 4k camera or similar to 4k? Or at least to record a good quality video?

If choosing between the g7x and rx 100 mk2 instead of mk3 what do you think would be the better option?
Excellent video, with the exception of the video having a problem if I am not mistaken at 9:37.
I've spoken with quite a few people who do have this camera and believe this is excellent for taking videos.
so did adam cast you guys your own maltese falcon?
If you don't like the video move on. stop complaining about free content.
Feels like you want Norm to look tiny. Was his camera positioned a little high?
Where could one see Normans photography? Does he have photography unrelated to tested?
One of your best reviews guys! The chemistry was really good in this one!
16mm is basically 5/8". 3/4" would be about 19mm.
I have an older Canon S90. It has been great. There are limitations with it and things that I wish were different. But, for something that fits in a pocket the pictures it can take are just fine for me. I may have to look into one of these newer small cameras since a larger frame one just wouldn't be practical for me.
Nice, I would really like your opinion on which camera is best for video if I dont want to spend more than 600$?
If you're looking for DSLRs, maby you should go with the Canon 600D, a "Starter DSLR".
Have a nice day :)
A Panasonic G6 is pretty much a GH3-lite and is great at video.
Sony a6000 or a5100 with a kit lense, which isn't too bad but you can always upgrade later
I agree, G6 is a really great option. check out eoshd, they do really good reviews on video. or if you are able to get your hand on a second hand GH3 in your price range, that would be a good option as well.

DriveCancelled i was actually more focused on the video yesterday about sony's "Walkman"... Haha
Weird niche products like that are going to be the things Sony waste money on that tank the areas they are actually good in @_@
The RX 100 mk. iii is a great camera, I truly enjoyed working with it even though it was just for a couple of weeks. A bit expensive for what is. imho. time will tell what happens when a real competitor arrives. :)
The G7X fits in my front pocket of my jeans with no problem. Strop wearing skinny jeans and you will be OK.
+Richard's World .....LMAO
I can confirm the G7X uses the exact same sony senor.
sony rx m3 is about $180 more expensive than g7x in my country. so i go with g7x
$240 more expensive here! I kinda want the rx mk3, but not with that price tag...
Hi guys im shooting with my iphone can ask any suggestions on a camera that would be a step up on a mobile phone, i want to practice manual mode thanks
You should look at the G1X mkII
You guys should do a Sony a7S review!
That manual lens on the G7X is terrible :o
Can you guys do the Lumix GM5?
biased ass review...
+Jayson Ray I AGREE
+Jayson Ray different opinion = bias? yep, it's internet idiocy
True. THE MOTHER OF ALL POINTINGSHOOTS IS " Not good for video"
😑🔫
lets see a new tested office tour!!! :-P
whats with that one camera angles video quality, is that a webcam? lol. Besides that, great review, thinking about buying the sony myself for vlogs I just want to find a good deal on it
does anyone know of any camera that has these features:
-connects to phone and can pass photos to phone without needing a PC
-under $150
can you change the lens on the canon?
no.. both of them are point and shoot camera.. no interchangeable lens.... but for around 600 USD these are the best you can put in your purse and carry everyday.
No
+Jayson Ray you are right that was so damn bias
Damn, so many wrong information.
A 35mm camera is actually 24x35mm. A 1inch sensor is a 1inch sensor...
If it isn't 1 inch, it's false advertising.
LoverOfPhotography It's actually not one full inch. Look it up before you speak.
just get a sony a6000..cheaper, outstanding quality, big sensor and still light and portable
yeah, but not poketable.. I can fit my rx100 in my jeans pocket, no sweat.. try to take your a6000 to Rio de Janeiro... risky.. not as discreet as the rx100 :)
***** #discriminate
+Makuna Matate
If an area is that risky, shouldn't be there with any camera.
The sony with better tiltscreen would be great!
this conversation make me feel boring
PLease DO REVIEW G7x mark 2 vs sony rx100 mark 3/iv
So you never told us how is canon's video vs sony's.You left out the most interesting feature of the two cameras.Otherwise great video.
ahh.. that's because canon g7x takes bettet videos. also it holds its own even against the sony a7 (search for it on youtube)
νικος γιώργος "Otherwise great video" really??? The tester totally blows over the ease of the touch screen to focus because "he's not really into that." It's a major aspect of the camera dude! He was trying his hardest to show how difficult the ring is to use as a focus when all you had to do was touch the screen!!!
You're right about the "he's not into that" its funny, but the touch focus is a given. If someone decides to build a ring that acts as a focus ring they should build it to work as it was supposed to work not hinder performance. But even big companies make mistakes.
SONY ARE AT THE CUTTING EDGE AT THE MOMENT THIS LATEST CYBERSHOT RANGE ARE AMAZING AT A GREAT PRICE. FORGET NIKON AND CANON.
I wish we could afford better cameras lol. So many epic moments filmed by toasters :p
Why a clicky focus ring?!
Are you wearing the Apple Watch? ;)
Jordan May Asus Zenwatch.
That background noise!
I
i'm sorry, you need to get schooled about the powershot G line. They came out more than 15 years ago introducing competitive enthusiast compact cameras to compete with european brands. The G7x is the next iterative to compete with Sony. Remember when Sony had it's proprietory Sony Memory card? It failed hard! Before the RX, tell me the last Sony camera-only you would say was industry worthy? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_PowerShot_G
roundingcorners Kind of ironic then that they have to use a sony sensor because their technology is 15 years old.
kinachahue www.wired.com/2010/08/sonys-transparent-mirror-cameras-repackage-1965-canon-tech/ Many manufacturers have borrowed from one another at times of their past, which is a result of innovation.
I know, I like Canon, just teasing a bit. They have lagged behind the last few years though when it comes to simple things like 60p in video on their dslrs and crappy dynamic range in their sensors.
If you want good camera tech don't fool yourself get a DSLR great zoom movie mode and pics ... If your gonna take snaps use your smart phone.
DSLR? Mirrorless is better in the APS-C range and has completely leapfrogged the DSLRs. With the exception of the 7D Mark II IF you are shooting wildlife and sports, otherwise even the 7D II loses to the Sony a6000 for image quality.
Besides that, these 1" sensor cameras are perfectly adequate and far superior to smartphones.
that dork thinks he knows something about cameras and he is laughable.
success kid!
Biased BS, and you edit the flip screen portion of the canon?? How much is sony paying you?
Sony FTW
too much rambling. please give bullet points
The problem with the sony is when u close the evf it powers off.
good info ..thanks!...presentation?...too much fast talk and mumbling especially at the end of sentences.
Best to just put your money into a Sony camera.
For vlogs etc the audio on the Canon G7x is way better. Examples in my channel soon.
one sided biased worst review ever....
Eeeerrrrrrrrm.....aaaaaaaah........eeerrrrrrrrm these are both cameras......errrrrrr
Fab. Sold. 👍🏼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
What really annoys me about your 'tests' is that the guy on the left seems always to be so patronising and argumentative. Remind me of the 'FUJIGUYS" where the oriental man does all the talking and the white guy is a waste of space.
oi beleza galera faz um video para dizer se a sony RX100 é boa
If that chinese guys corrects the sit of his glasses one more time i will shoot myself !!!!
The G7x fails in many points.
these guys r not vibing, lol
Who really cares about shooting manual in video! Holy crud have you seen the auto video mode in the
Canon. Look around every young person shooting a Vlog is using the Canon. Go ahead and throw down the extra money for the Sony!
G7X all day
Estoy harto de videos de tipos hablando, quiero ver que hacen las cámaras.
Stop saying "erm" so annoying!
