I'm glad you took your time on these, the conversions and the paintjobs are both great! I love that chipped red armor with the bluish undead flesh and eyes. I'm definitely gonna re-edit that marathon into an extra video too ;-)
Admittedly, it'd be cool to see him perform some metal covers because that outro is badass. However, I realize that it's called Miniac for a reason and that is Scott's passion, obviously. 😅
Hey Scott, just wanna say I don’t even paint minis or know anything about this world but i am hooked on your videos, so much so that I’ve even got my twin into your channel too 💥 it’s very relaxing listening to you whilst I draw or do dishes 😋 keep it up ~
swear everytime i watch your videos i then need to go and listen to endless metal and thinking on all i just heard and or learned. Its like a requirement and the only way to fully grasp the Scott.
@@Miniac Yeah dude I have a full Legion of Blood army that's about 1/3 painted. Converted Dragon knights into Blood Knights and working on the second batch
A paintjob worthy of such great conversions. They came out great. I use chipping medium on my Space Marines and I find it is a bit hit and miss at times trying to achieve the chipping with a brush
I've been part of many communities on RUclips, but the best one ever, is seriously the mini painting community! All the love ya'll creators share with each other, that shit makes little me very happy some how :-) Great video as usual Scott!
With the chipping medium- I lay down the base layer, let it dry and use AK interactive heavy chipping medium. Don't thin it. I usually brush it on let it dry for about 15-20 minutes. After that I apply the base color of the armor. You dont want to wait too long or add too many layers before using lots of water to activate the chippig medium, or you'll run into the issues you had. Great video, hope this helps.
Vallejo Metal Color range has seriously sped-up painting metallics for me. They're fantastic for both airbrush and brush, and you usually get solid coverage in just one coat. The only downside is the lack of tones in the range. Plenty of silver choices but I think there is only one gold option.
Loved your paint work! I was painting minis back in the 80’s for my DnD playing( I’m 48). I just recently got back into it, but not for gaming - just my own enjoyment. I’m working on Black Powder American Revolution minis and I don’t want them to look gaudy or over painted. Your paint style in this vid was an inspiration
Always a pleasure watching you work sir.🤘 I've been in the hobby for almost two years now, and I learn so much from you and Goober and Midwinter on here, I'm grateful for y'all sharing your love of the hobby and skill.
I really enjoy to see the progression of that vampire army. Watching the convertion, the 38 hours challenge and now the slow build up of those minis is really nice. Looking forward to see the progression of the others vampires. :)
I've just painted my first pony/horse and while a one off was quite relaxing there's no way I'd want to do a cavalry heavy army. As a side. Your "challenge yourself" video has sent me down a non 40k rabbit hole. Tried hero forge for the first time. Well pleased. Thanks for the inspiration
They look amazing. I enjoyed the 38 hour paint video, but we didn't really get to diving into each mini quite like this. They definitely deserved their own video where we could see the level of detail and effort put into each of these evil little ponies.
Just a note: gloss varnish is very often used as a base before applying washes on other models (tanks, airplanes, etc) so it's a tried and tested method. I personally don't bother that often since I apply washes more sparingly, but if you have a ton of panel lines, it's a good way of making sure the wash gets where it needs to go.
I play brets. Currently sitting at 60 painted knights. There are 2 sculpts for horses.... I totally agree. I love them, but I get caught in periods where I despise painting them.
Just ordered some Lumineth cavalry and have been painting some old high Elf steeds to experiment with different horse colours and even im getting a bit tired of it!
If they'd make a few different sculpts, it would probably help the tedium. Being a horse fan myself, I find that a lot of manufacturers do little service to the mounts, unless it's an "epic beast".
Glad to be another Patron of yours Scott you do amaizing content and wouldnt get scarred of the problems this field brings with it. only the best from switzerland cheers!
After watching for almost a week it seems I've decided to pick up a death guard paint set and give it a dangle.. Ya wore off on me boss love your channel and painting in general and after stumbling across your channel while cruising for airbrushing vids I'm sold . I like your information level in your videos, super solid content keep it up!! And then the metal touch you've added makes it feel like home... Glad I'm here keep up the good work!!
These look great Scott! also, thank you for returning to normal speak on video. Your articulation reminds me of your first videos, calm and collected. A+
I've painted these chaos knights and can confirm they're fragile and a pain to paint! Plus, you sanded off most of the fiddly bits like the undivided symbol.
A Raw paint more minis! Nice for a change :3 I really like the end result of the cavalry. 15 hours basing metallics... I know what is like, I feel your pain, but even tho I watched part of the process in the marathon video, I really enjoyed watching a dedicated video on this conversions. :D
You can tell he's jacked up, ready to pounce, though i wasn't ready for the full frontal punchline! Glad i turned on my stereo before the vid started. Good job, Scott.
Btw a quirky cpl of vampire flicks you might wanna sample: Blood and Donuts and Near Dark if you havent seen it yet. Slightly related also check out Nightbreed if you haven't.
@Miniac Scott, I can't be the only one that has suggested this but you should really try the Vallejo Metal Color line, they flow like inks and cover like base paints, you can airbrush them or use them on a brush directly from the pot, it could have saved you hours.
Wow so cool to see you go from conversion to finished mini, and you even got mutiple video out of one shoot. So when ya doing your next conversion and paint........I kid, done trolling you about these 😆. Always love how detail your videos are and how you go over each step
hey scott could you plz do a video on painting adeptus mechanicus cause i think they’re really interesting models and would love to see how a pro would paint them
That skintone gave me a good idea for my lord of the rings orcs. Going to try mixing various colours with Cadian flesh and see where it takes me. Also I found out that mixing the final highlights with a bone colour instead of pure white gives a more realistic look because real sunlight also has a warm tone.
I JUST did this lol. I kitbashed a set of 5 Blacknights with Spellcrows Feral Space wolves heads (for that vargheist-y bestial look) and some human flesh tabards. I went red clothe and red armor, very Bram Stokers Dracula Armor.
Very cool. Thanks for putting these videos up, I really appreciate your content and feel bad that I can't support via patreon or anything right now but I really enjoy the work that you put into both this channel as well as the join effort with Trapped Under Plastic. I've always been a miniatures painter and sculptor and I've been heavily into tabletop game design/working on my own skirmish game/miniatures range, but coming across your content has gotten me back into enjoying the painting side and getting more into trying out different techniques and enjoying the process of 'leveling up' more.
Listening to Born of Osiris and it's turning my Night Haunt color scheme into some MAD as f figure it out wild style shit. Keep making videos man. love it
Loved this information such beautiful pieces side note I love my decapitated marine paint more minis shirt. And I back emil's brushed in the first hour for a deluxe set of brushes and one bust
Hey Scott, Quick Question - I'm moving house and want to set up a dedicated hobby desk - In your opinion what are the "Must-haves" when creating this space and what are some of the things you've learned - Also any sources on how to make a lighting box, camera setups for streaming, handy hints is much appreciated :)
Hey Miniac, is there a video where you explain the chipping in detail, and which fluid i need for it? I want to try this effect on my bloodknights too, it looks amazing!
I painted only one cavalry model almost 20 years ago...and sold it and the whole unit and never paints cavalry again. Try using contrast paints to speed up painting of smaller details like fur or bone.
Ied love to get back into games workshop but I’m just not willing to pay that much for models, the prices were high 10 years back when I stopped but since then they have sky rocketed to a level I’m just not willing to pay even second had from eBay. Add to that that most GW Centers have a rule that a model must be 80 to 90% GW product and it means I can’t cheat.
Speeding up the process: plan an exchange with Goobertown so he paints your other five and you paint his. Oh wait. You'll just paint his with just as much extreme detailing.
Enjoyed the video! Now I have to watch the conversion video. :D Up to this point I didn’t varnish my minis, but I’m currently starting a new army and was thinking about doing it, because I will be playing with them a lot. Which (semi) matt varnish do you use/recommend?
Miniac I was thinking a cool video to do would be a mini painting challenge but you can only use nail polish paints and the tiny brushes that come with them to paint your mini :p
Eyy Scot. I was wondering what brushes you used to paint the metal trim, as I saw your video on brushes, which has inspired me to try out Raphaël brushes. I also watched a Squidmar video, which promoted using different brushes for regular colors and metallic colors, as the metallic pigments mess with your regular brushes over time. Does brush soap minimize this? Or should I just use different sets for normal and metallic colors?
First: Greetings from germany scott! Second: A great video like always. Goobertown Hobbies and your channel told me a lot about painting miniatures and the most techniques ive got from you. :) i am a bloody amateur but you and many other youtube teached me a lot :) thanks for that. Third: There is a wolf Head behind you on thet desk that looks incredible. can you please show it in a video :D
Thanks for sharing... I know that word sounds like kindergarten but.. its interesting to see other approaches to an end. On an other note. I want to do the Squidmar brushes... but there is no way in Kickstarter to do PayPal.. ( I don't want to use a Credit Card) I hope they find a way to fix that.
Just a thought, but an oil wash might give them a nice dirty look, fill the recesses effectively and save you time. I'm really starting to appreciate oil washes. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the humour. And watch penny dreadful for some great vampire action 🤘
I'll amplify the signal with others in the comment section: you need to use some vallejo air metallics ! The best true metal paints in the game as Vince Venturella said.
Ok Scott, this is not a comment on your painting skills. We all love them. But i think what we really need now is a tutorial on how to do those gutural screams. Good stuff.
I'm glad you took your time on these, the conversions and the paintjobs are both great! I love that chipped red armor with the bluish undead flesh and eyes. I'm definitely gonna re-edit that marathon into an extra video too ;-)
Finally i see YOU shouting:
"PAINT MOOOORRRE MINIIIIIS"
I can die in peace now:)

Part 3 of the Blood Knight saga is here!
Is part 4 going to be an actual game, Scott? Hmmmm?
Your growls are actually pretty brutal!
Great to see you have a video where you are painting minis that isn't a marathon. ALSO LOVED the PAINT MORE MINIIIIISSSS

Thanks, D! You got a Legion of Blood army in the works?

When you have no good jokes but Scot has liked practically every other comment.
It worked!
After a 15-/+ year break, this pair of videos single-handedly has me building and painting again, thanks for your passion!

It makes me feel a lot better about my painting speed knowing that someone that is far better than me spends so many hours just doing the metallics.

Gloss varnishing before washes 100% improves how washes flows into recesses, it also helps with contrast paints.
Speed up painting all that chaos trim by airbrushing all the metallics in their various colours and basecoating the red over the top.

Outro recommendation: scream Paint More Minis and animate a Chaos Noise Marine to do the metal riff.
Why do I have Foreigner running through my head? "Well, I"m... Hot-blooded! Ridin' my horse!" "Paintin' too long... I got Double Vision!"
Nice man!

That was sick seeing you scream your outro!
would you consider doing Artel “W” Minatures?
Thanks for sharing... I know that word sounds like kindergarten but.. its interesting to see other approaches to an end.

Reeeeee new episodeeeee. Love you Miniac(No homo)
