Western Gailes - The Golf Club

The club was built to help the members escape the smog and bustle of Glasgow. Four enterprising Glaswegians knew that building a course by the sea would mean no more golf on frozen turf. They approached the Duke of Portland and asked to rent his land with the dream of year round golf.
Western Gailes changes as you play it. Rolling links land awaits your opening holes before you move into the captivating high dunes of the second half of the front-nine. Exposed to the shoreline for eight holes. The land of the back nine settles somewhat, but pot bunkers and tributary burns provide hazards to negotiate.

Western Gailes was the last round of our two-week tour of Scottish golf courses and we may have saved the best, or at least one of the best, for last. We had a great tour of the starter hut and even saw a bag tag from a course from here in Louisville. This video is excellent but it doesn’t do complete justice to the beauty of the course. ANOTHER must play course on future trips! Two-weeks isn’t enough anymore.
