  • Hey gang! Here's a quick video opening my first vintage watch! Can you guess what it is before watching the rest of the video? By the way, I recorded this on August 13th and only now had time to upload it.
I got this watch via www.thosewatchguys.com/

So if you remember reading the last "journal" entry regarding my trip to Las Vegas, here's a quick update and why I've been MIA THIS time :p
The wedding was here on Maui a few weeks later. My ladyfriend came to stay with me (from the mainland) and to be my date for the wedding. I was the best man and I nailed the speech. People have said that it was the best best-man speech they have ever seen! I was so stoked to hear that! I said it all from my heart. I wrote nothing down and I made it fun. It was about ten minutes long haha! Congratulations, Levi (he's been in a few of our adventure movies).
I spent the next few weeks spending time with her then disaster happened here on Maui. A hurricane south of Maui caused a massive wind storm here with no rain. Eighty mile per hour (128kph) winds were happening on that side of the island and it sparked massive, quick fires. People didn't stand a chance. Many, many didn't make it. Most of historic Lahaina was decimated. It was a huge shock and extremely tragic.
Elena left a few weeks ago after spending 40 days with me. I hope to see here again soon. She's very, very important to me and I really do want to cultivate that relationship. If it's meant to be, it'll happen. If not, I'll keep chugging along and doing my thang :)
Right now I am all about getting back to working out and eating well, selling whatever I don't need, making and saving as much money as possible and fixing everything I need to fix. I now have more time for vidgeos and the boys will return! Much love and I miss you guys!

Happy to know you are well considering all those events. I suspect your watch has a loose cannon pinion at least, seeing how the hands are moving when you push/pull the crown and also that date changing at a differnet time each time. It could explain why it looses so much time. Check if the second hand is keeping good time. If it's the case, you have a loose cannon pinion (which is not that hard to fix for a watchmaker or for an amateur like us, but with the correct tool)

That's about what I would expect with a watch of this age. I recently restored a childhood watch I lost as a teen: 90s Movado Museum. The dial and hands were misaligned. Debris all under the crystal. Scratched to hell. I resolved all those issues, and it's helping me relive the 90s as a kid. I'd risk it all for an old 62MAS or Sub, either from Tudor or Rolex. Nice to see you again. Can't wait to see this piece sorted out.

Good to see you not crispy and all your armfur still in tact! Love the Civic btw, great to see it in a "not molten" state, my own lovely EK is slowly returning to dust, heart revs still like new but the rear wheel arches are making their own vents, awesome rear brake cooling nowadays but I need to learn welding very soon. Yours looks so shiny shiny bling bling.
The King Seiko is just the opposite of my crusty EK, looks great but it's inside needs some work, hope they fix it soon. Looking forward to your full review of the KS.
It can take a while (that's what she said...) but Kurt is always coming... back. ;) Good to see you man!

Glad you're doing good but I have heard some pretty disturbing stuff about what is going on in Lahaina with people being arrested for filming, people burning boats that are docked & anchored and the governor apparently wanting to seize the land? WTF is going on there because no one seems to be talking about it in the mainstream news at all!

I have bought a 50 year old tissot that immediately needed service when I got it, but it was only 50 bucks on eBay. Hopefully you didn’t pay too much

I always wanted to compensate myself for never getting a decent watch for my bar mitzva. So several years ago (5 or 6) I started browsing e-bay for a Seiko circa 1968. Finally I found a Lord Seiko from Japan. I don't know if it was serviced before it was shipped to me, but as far as it's working condition - it's perfect, no issues at all. I am very lucky, I guess.

I think in a way you were lucky because a watch of that age probably needs a service and now you get one for free, or just the cost of postage if you had to pay.

Hello, glad to hear you again. My thoughts go to the people of Lahaina, I feel sorry for what happend at Hawaii. It is heartwrenching. Next Topic: I wouldn´t put money in the Vintage Market out of principle. And as a thought, if I had bought it, I would have tried to change the movement, with a new NH35, of course I am not familiar with your King Seiko, so, its possible that the sizes not match a NH35. Nice Caseback. And good choice to let it service by the seller.
Stay safe if possible and take care.

It just needs a proper service. These KS movements are some of the best Seiko made back then.

These are the Seikos that were scaring the Swiss so badly that they stopped doing Chronometer competitions. Cant have Japanese watches be more accurate than Swiss.

If you want a vintage watch...please visit web stores from watchmakers that do YT content. They repair and service the watch on camera. Usually they have a store.
One of the best that I've seen is Vintage Watch Repair
For $1k you have serviced original that is checked by a professional (who does YT ok- you see a service), with high rez multiple pic with opened movement, case back underside with reference codes and specs.
These Watch guys are an absolute joke. Even their name is just not the place where I would give $2k-4k for a watch.
I mean, how many watches do they sell... if they didn't know that this one performs so badly, especially with the date?
Now, the watch needs to go back. They gonna give it another service... It so bad. This is not the way.
They are so great.. they responded immediately...yeah no shit.
    Unacceptable

Oh, and don't simp too much on the girl ok.
I got spammed by putting a web link. My bad.
