You can't take your own blanket anymore, your sweater shirt can't be a hoodie, you can't have your own stuffed animal anymore, only some hospitals let you bring your own toiletries.... Just remember no hard cover books....
I have been following you for a while but today I have watched several of your videos. Sometimes hearing another person make sense of what's going on inside of you when you can't is nice. Or when you wonder if you are making it up. Or having someone to relate to. The perk of all these with you is that you have a great personality and watching your videos isn't anxiety producing like some of these other channels

Mental health is culturally different in different countries. We shouldn't really use labels, but it takes time to reach this point. I think you should see yourself without a label.

When I went to the hospital in 2020 they did the same thing with my medicine. They took my medicine and locked it away and gave me the same meds from the hospital pharmacy.
This is a great list for going to a hospital as well especially with the limits of visitors since COVID.

It makes sense that hospitals would do that too! Didn't think about it until just now. Thanks for sharing!

This was such a great list! And I love how you presented it by holding up examples of the items. It was also interesting to hear about versions of the recommended items that you can't bring in (like clothes with strings, wire bound notebooks, etc.) because you could use those to hurt yourself.
The bee cards are awesome and I wish I had a set! Also I laughed out loud at "no one wants to wear a hospital gown when everyone else is wearing normal clothes" XD And I enjoyed seeing the notebook of pictures that your dad brought you, which is super sweet & seemed like a really helpful thing to have.

There was ONE PERSON on my unit that did not have his own clothes and I felt so bad for him. He had two gowns on (since you know they have open backs) and it was definitely something I never want to go through.
That notebook with pics made such a difference, even to this day I sometimes flip through it so I never forget where I was back then, so I can remember how far I've come.
Thanks so much for the comment!

I colored so many mandalas and can decorate a whole wall with it. The staff kept printing new coloring pages because lots of people colored. It´s one of the nice memories while being hospitalized.
So bring a coloring book and colored pencils, just in case they don´t have it.

I was in the habit of going to the psych ward and had to break it. My last experience was tragic, there were some screamers on the ward.

Both my school counsellor and my therapist have both been talking about how they may put me in the hospitals psych ward, they don’t communicate with each other. They wanna admit me for my self-harm issues, and my suicidal ideation. I’m considered high risk to myself, police know about my condition. Because i’ve attempted suicide before it greatly increases my risk factor. So i’m kinda getting prepared in case one of them admits me. It’s frustrating that it’s so safe in psych wards, it makes it so much harder self-harm. Guess that’s kinda the point though. 😅

What I strongly reccomend is getting a go bag together with your essentials like clothes and toiletries and whatnot, so that if you do have to go, you have the stuff you need and aren't scrambling. I have a bag like this in my closet and it's a comfort.
I have been known to complain about my own stay, but like you touched on, psych wards do have a good purpose of keeping you safe from yourself, and that's what it did for me and I am grateful for it. (It also gave me time to think which I also needed).
I really hope that things improve for you, and that whatever path you go down, that it works :)

Is this for pediatric wards? The majority I worked in you couldn't bring anything but a book into a hospital ward setting. You have to wear there clothing they supply, etc?? Or is this list for stand alone psych hospital

    • @SchizoKitzo
      @SchizoKitzo  2 года назад

For me it was an adult locked ward. I believe it was a standalone. I’ve had several friends of mine end up at different hospitals and I did speak with them on the matter. Obviously this list won’t go for every psych hospital, but many places do let you bring a lot of your own stuff, at least where I am from.

How exactly are you playing games with playing cards if you were in a straight jacket in a padded room by yourself.
