Sleep Deprivation Psychosis | When Mania Won't Let Me Sleep
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.День назад
In the fall of 2018 I had my first major manic episode, and during that time there was a short period where I did not sleep at all. I’m not sure how many days passed, but I know that eventually, I experienced psychosis due to sleep deprivation that was way worse-and different-than the rest of my psychotic symptoms during this time. So this is my story about how my schizoaffective self managed t...

Acute side effects are side effects that happen shortly after an exposure to a chemical (like a medication) but are temporary (meaning the effects are not chronic). The main context of acute side effects in general comes from radiation therapy in cancer patients, but it can also be used to describe the temporary side effects that happen when one starts taking or adjusting a psych med. But what happens when the hallucinations are heard internally in the same headspace as intrusive thoughts? Well, things get a little dicey and that’s what this video is about: telling the difference betwee...
When Mania Takes the Wheel

In 2018, I hunted down an Up Garage in the middle of industrial Nagoya, Japan to buy my brother a steering wheel for his car. The reason I agreed to this is because I was manic. I have the bipolar type of schizoaffective disorder, which means I experience manic episodes as part of my condition. Sometimes mania is not so good, but for me, most of the time it’s pretty great. Lipid, TSH, valproic, A1C, fasting blood glucose, T3 free, etc. you name it all, we do it all. It’s mainly for establishing baseline, or therapeutic drug levels. Antipsychotics are known to cause metabolic syndrome, so having an idea of where a persons A1C / blood glucose is can be useful

The other interesting thing about the blood and urine tests is they can research physical changes in the body related to mental health conditions as well as look for things like vitamin d deficiency that can cause mood issues. There are a few known physical things that can cause psychological issues that can be found in those tests.

Also with lithium for anyone wondering, you need frequent bloods until you're in the therapeutic range but you still need to get bloods every 6 months or so. This is to ensure you are still in the therapeutic range and also to monitor for lithium toxicity which can be deadly. Along with that, your doctor should be checking you kidney function as lithium does carry the risk of kidney damage in long term use. Checking your levels and kidney function regularly ensures that your doctor can spot any possible signs of kidney damage early and look at other possibe medications like sodium valporate. Not everybody gets kidney damage but it is a risk that needs to be monitored. Source: I used to be a nurse meaning I had access to MIMS (Australia's drug register) and have had geriatric patients who've been on lithium for years. My mum's a paranoid pharmacist who didn't want me going on it initially so I tried other options first. I've been on lithium for almost 4 years so I've been educated by my psychiatrist, GP, mum and pharmacist when I first picked up my meds.

Most of your medicines cause me to have problems. Zyprexa, however, is a wonderful drug. The problem is that it causes weight gain in many people. It caused me to become diabetic. I also have severe headaches from when I tried to kill myself and also people were coming at me. Ambient causes me to hallucinate and sleep walk. I know some of my problems came from my diet over the years and an insane amount of exercise. I stopped having hypnagogic hallucinations when I was given serotonin meds. Again, I've heard the new growth theory. I don't think it's the same. I stand by the theory that my mind was killing itself with bad mental states like depression, and severe anxiety, Your brain rots when that happens. K-12 eff them all. With this bad mental state lifted, my brain stopped rotting and went to different paths--or did. We won't talk about how I was courted by several men. I have other injuries. Apparently, I'm not allowed to complain about anything or succeed, yet I have to work as a maid because I'm low status in society. They changed their minds again and decided I need to work at McDonalds. Snobs.., Ah, when the whores and bad retards go digital. I'm a good retard. The others are rich, pretty, and connected. It doesn't matter how immature they are like Bjork. I don't want to marry. My excuse is that me having kids in the US is child abuse enough. The fact that the thing would be disabled makes it even better.

The first time I experienced anything like that outside my head was so distressing and left me in anguish that I feared having them. Although the meds lessen the blow I still feel that I will not be able to be "used" to them. Also I had to remember that is still just my head messing with me and mindful meditation helps bridge the distance thing.

Depakote levels have to be checked too. Like she said a lot of the medications used have to have blood levels checked to see if they are within "Therapeutic Levels" Also some of them can affect different organs in the body (like the liver) or even blood sugar levels and those are checked through blood draws and blood tests. And many times the patients also have medical issues like diabetes and/or hepatitis or other illnesses and many times the patients don't know it because of their psych issues. Psych wards don't only treat psych issues, they also treat medical issues the patients may have.

I've been on lithium for my bipolar since I was in middle school. I'm now 29. It's the only medicine that has kept me stable and functional, and I've been able to live a normal life without severe mania, rapid cycling, or psychosis. I still get breakthrough depression, mostly related to my c-ptsd, but it's allowed me to be normal. I have two kids, and I was on lithium during both pregnancies with no negative side effects (there's a 3-5% chance that lithium during pregnancy can cause a specific congenital heart defect, but I had prenatal echocardiograms done during both pregnancies at 24 weeks, and neither of my kids had the defect. If they had, there would have been a need for my kids to have corrective surgery after birth, but the surgery is really common and tends to have a really low risk for complications.) I need to get my blood drawn every few months, but as long as my level is between 0.7 and 1.0, I'm fine. I think people demonize lithium a lot, and I know that it's not for everyone, but for the people who have bipolar or similar mood disorders who can tolerate it, it's almost like a miracle.

I've noticed that I can react to extreme movement commands(like forcing an extremely quick movement of my whole body) during that state(when i do the same thing outside of that state, i hurt myself just from the movement alone). Similar to, how during stupor, people react to extreme sensory stimuli. never tried doing so during stupor cause i always panic too much to remember.

It's so important to you to get tested to make sure your lithium is in a therapeutic level, for you.I had a psychiatrist who refused to have me tested, and my parents just fired her. I genuinely didn't even end up needing the medication, (as other treatment was successful for me)and she totally had me overmedicated. So if you're on a medication like that, and your psychiatrist refuses to have you do a blood test, you need to get a new doctor. Even if you're not in a psych ward. I ended up having a lot of issues, because of the fact that she refused the blood test. It was only when my parents got a second opinion, that they realized how dangerous it was. They thought it was strange, which is why they got a second opinion. As they had seen that be the recommendation online, because they looked into the meds I started when I was a kid/teen. So make sure this is being done! As well as look into the meds you take. ❤

Well, I took an IQ test when I was spitting my pills out, and it was grim. I received a 116 on the IQ part with serious issues. Some of the global tasks were too difficult for me. I do guard some of them to keep my dad away. I study, read, and write for my brain. I take meds and am watched. Lithium and the others rewire the brain. plus, depression and other diseases like to damage the brain, so we don't know fully, which is which. I'm not sure it causes growth, just new pathways. I'm allergic to lithium, it turns out, so... Anyway, I was in special ed . I guess I mostly made Bs in High SchooI, even though I was so behind due to special ed. I was also pushing my body to the limits abuse-wise. No, I wasn't on drugs. I couldn't stop moving, didn't sleep for days, starved or feasted. I did laps around the city. I should have competed in cycling because I am a cardio queen or was. If I wouldn't have joined the army, I would have probably gone off in a few years and just medicated or watched by a doctor. Unfortunately, I have the face of my mom's abuser or did when I was thinner. I had issues with one of my sisters who I tormented after I came back home in sixth grade from dad's. She got her revenge. I said sorry. Her doctor doesn't want us together or for me to bring anything up for a while. she's too busy with a family now anyhow. Most of us do commit a crime and then they figure it out, which is sad. Mom tried to have me committed, but my dad stopped her, and the rest of the family said they'd cut off funds if she did. I love my mommy. She doesn't love me though. It's not something I cry about. She wouldn't let me in at night. She had no problem with babysitting. She made a big deal about me taking meds when I came back, or I couldn't see my siblings. Look, it was a mess. Hey, she pickled her brain with alcohol and had no problem when it came to draining my bank account. wah, wah. I love you, mommy. I hate you daddy.
