I swear, the Sodor map videos are some of the most rewatchable videos I've seen in 15+ years in this fandom. You grow up watching the show enough times, you love it, so naturally you think about how the island would be laid out, but I don't think anyone ever put it into video form until you did...
Lost count the amount of times I've walked, worked out, driven, eaten, fallen asleep, or just vibed to the Tug taking me on a tour of Sodors railways. And can easilly say I'll be here till either RUclips or I travel to the Other Railway
Hi Unlucky Tug, just wanted to say... I was gobsmacked to find out your channel was deleted. I went to show my Dad your season 1 & 2 retrospectives and couldn't find them. I discovered your channel a few months ago and it's ignited a whole new appreciation for the original show. I was OBSESSED as a child and you've got such a brilliant understanding of why it was complete genius and still stands the test of time. If you can upload those season retrospectives it would make me so god damn happy! Glad to see you back man. Big love to you and the channel! 🙏
This is just my inner child coming out now, but here goes: If i were a multi-billionaire i'd buy a private island ( as closest to size as possible ) and just full on build Sodor for real, all run by rebuilt replicas or preserved classes left of every Steam, Diesel & Electric engine and rolling stock in the show, be it Standard, Narrow & Miniature gauge. Every line, station, harbour, quarry, buffer siding, bridge, road, industrial location, town and castle.... EVERYTHING would be replicated to a tee. We've all dreamed of visiting Sodor, and i actually believe with the right resources and willpower it can be done. But hey, one can only dream, though there's no denying it'd be a paradise. 🏝
This definitely feels a lot more accurate than the official maps. I can only imagine the amount of time and effort it took to piece all this together. Amazing job. Your work and level of quality never cease to astound me.
I think the only thing that needs to carry over from the official map to this one is the placement of Knapford to properly account for the Loop Line and Thomas's Branch.
Love this video, got me much more interested in the geography and mapping of the Island of Sodor, this is AWESOME and you’re one of the biggest experts on the matter and I respect you so much for that AND especially for creating your own hybrid maps.
Happy to have this video back. These, the timelines and the ranked videos were the best thing to listen to on walks or while doing busy work. Love your criticism and ideology. Glad to have you back sir
This could make a nice TV series AU map, as the original has been out for a while now. You did a fantastic job "deep-diving" into the different sets when this video first came out. Let's hope you can still retrieve your old channel, man.
Ah, I remember when this first came out! Still one of my all-time favorite videos from you. Your interpretations of the TVS Peel Godred Branch and Mid Sodor Railway are my favorite parts of this.
I remember watching this whole vid. I treated it like a college exam and payed a lot of attention, when build a sodor ho layout and my own version of it in trainz. I'll use the rws map and this beautiful map
I wonder why they chose Gordon to go on such a small line to rescue Thomas from the mine. That's the only thing that has bugged me from the original series. It would have made more sense if it was James or Edward but I know the story needed Gordon for character arcs.
I'm sure the TV series can chalk it up to Gordon being the most powerful, therefore needed to pull Thomas out. Henry is ill during this time obviously and James is weaker than Henry or Gordon.
You have always done great on these Sodor map videos. While the map in my fan series idea has many differences, this and the other map videos have helped me out with it. Thank you so much Unlucky Tug.
What’s funny is that Skarloey’s railway in season 6 looks like it would be the small railway & season 7 looks like the Culdee Fell railway (it’s very mountainous & rocky)
Yeah thinking about it the Mountain Engines stories could have been done in Season 7 with the sets being reused from the rocky sets of the Skarloey Railway.
When you showed the loop at 20:28 I made my own Canon for that part the loop is its own thing its not apart of thomas branch line I believe that when the double track ends at the signal I believe that was were thomas brachline begins by the way this my own Canon and its ok to disagree
I love how you explain the whole map for the model series during Season 1 to 7. From watching the video, their is a lot of stations and towns that is used in the model series, so I am going to see what railway lines are used in the series and what stations they go to. 1) The Main Line calls at Knapford, Lower Tidmouth, Tidmouth, Elsbridge, Crosby, Wellsworth, Maron, Cronk, Killdane, Balladrine, Kellsthrope Road, Crovan's Gate, Vicarstown. At the start of the line before travelling to Vicarstown, their is Knapford Harbour. 2) The Ffarquhar Branch Line which is Thomas's Branch Line calls at Tidmouth, Lower Tidmouth, Knapford, Dryaw, Tonyreck, Elsbridge, Maithwaite, Hackenbeck, Ffarquhar and Ulfstead. At the end of the line their is a lead mine, Ffarquhar Quarry, a gold mine and Ffarquhar Docks. Also their is Ulfstead Castle. 3) The Little Western which is Duck's Branch Line calls at Tidmouth, Tidmouth Hault, Haultraugh, Arlesburgh and Callan. Callan has connections to Toby's line and Callan Castle. 4) The Coastal Line which is Arthur's Branch Line calls at Church and Harwick. At the end of the line their is a fishing village. 5) Toby's old Railway calls at Callan, Lower Arlesburgh, Mccoll's Farm, Maithwaite, Arlesdale and Arlesdale End. 6) The Brendam Branch Line which is Edward's Branch Line calls at Lower Suddery, Upper Brendam and Brendam. At the end of the line their is a Brendam Docks and the Sodor China Clay works. 7) The Peel Godred Branch Line calls at Killdane, Cronk Abbey, Old Bailey's Station and Peel Godred. At the end of the line their is the Sodor Ironworks. 8) The Kirk Ronan Branch Line calls at Kellsthrope Road, Rolf's Castle and Kirk Ronan. 9) The Skarloey Railway Line calls at Crovan's Gate, Cros-ny-cuirn, Glennock, Rheneas, Lakeside and Skarloey. At the end of the line their is the old Iron Bridge and the slate mine. 10) The Mid Sodor Railway Line calls at the Elm Farm, Old Station, Old Bailey's Station, Duke's Village and Valesbridge. At the end of the line their is a Gold Mine and it connects to Ulfstead Castle. That is all the railway lines and stations that are used in the model series. I wonder what new lines they used from Season 8 to Season 12. Their is also notable places on Sodor that is used in the model series than in the CGI series and they are the Sports Field Hault, The Cement Works, The Coal Mine, Packard & Co, The beach station on Thomas' Branch Line, Stepney's Branch Line, The 3 Bridges and Misty Island.
For those wondering, here’s the list of the Sodor rail lines, at their points in the video: 4:05 The Main Line 15:02 Thomas’ Branch Line 25:49 the Little Western 28:38 Coastal Run(Arthur’s Branch Line) 30:57 Toby’s Line 34:36 Brendham Branch Line (Edward’s Branch Line) 37:35 peel godred branch line 39:48 Kirk Ronan Branch Line 41:51 skarloey railway 46:30 mid sodor railway
Even though this video is outdated as hell, it’s still cool and a interesting rewatch. Also one thing I noticed while going through your reuploads was series that haven’t had new installments that I hadn’t watched in a good whole, like MTaKs
4:05 The Main Line 14:56 Ffarquhar Branch Line (Thomas' Branch Line) 25:49 The Little Western (Duck's Branch Line) 28:35 The Coastal Run (Arthur's Branch Line) 30:55 Toby's Old Railway 34:36 Brendam Branch Line (Edward's Branch Line) 37:35 Peel Godred Branch Line 40:03 Kirk Ronan Branch Line 41:52 Skarloey Railway 46:28 Mid Sodor Railway
I've watched this like 20+ times, the video flows so well and your voice is well suited for commentary. I put this video on for back ground noise sometimes because it's so amazing!
A great video and a longer one, so can be broken down into chunks. Fifteen to twenty minutes listening to you talk of Sodor, while I do the dishes, quite enjoyable.
The thing to remember when making maps of places from TV shows is that when they are making shows themselves they have budget and time constraints and because there usually isn't really a 100% definitive map or the lore at that point in time isn't as developed as it is in the present they just go with what they could in terms of story which is why places change so much. But personally this has to be the best map of Sodor ever in my opinion and I think its more than fair to expect odd differences here and there if it works out better in the long run.
I definitely see your point with characters being used on sets where they are not supposed to be. From Season 1, there have been scenes of Thomas and Percy on Toby's Branch Line, particularly the ones of Thomas on Black Loch, the Cliff Side Track and Arlesdale Castle. However, those scenes were most likely used as B-roll footage where the ones of Thomas were not used until Season 3, while the ones of Percy were used in a Season 4 music video.
Tug's maps have been an Inspiration to me with Arthur Line being one of them, I even try my hand at making my own route use Tug's maps as a guide. I did however use some sets from season 8 to 12, I regret it.
This was out of this world! Awesome! I have a couple of notes: 1. I think the Skarloey is allowed to be bigger than what was intended in the Railway Series. Heck, after all in S7 a new branch of the railway is built. Now that I think about it, perhaps in S6-S7, most of the engines (rusty, duncan, rheneas, and Peter Sam) were stabled at Skarloey but Sir Handel Duke and others are stabled at Crovans Gate sheds (which we never see). Perhaps the reason they dont appear much is that they work on a different part of the railway than shown in the seasons 6 onward. With that in mind, I think Rusty Saves the Day can be allowed to exist. Through some kind of reorganization, SIt Topham Hatt after S4 or 5 but before S6 assigns Rheneas and Skarloey their own branch of the railway we perhaps hadn't seen until the episode. At the same time, he assigns Rusty to work only at the quarry, and tries to split maintenace of Skarloey and Rheneas's line between the three of them. But after the events in that episode play out, Fatty sooner or later realizes it was bad idea. By S7 he has reverted all the engines to as before working all over on the entire railway with Rusty once again assigned as maintenance diesel of the railway 2. I think Stepney's S4 Bluebell Railway is an actual branch line on Sodor that is on the Eastern side of sodor that is somewhere near a branch of the Skarloey Railway, perhaps connected to the Peel Godred Branch (perhaps independent in S4, but then increasingly under the control of Sir Topham Hatt). We can assume SIr Topham Hatt owns the line by S5 given he has authrotiy of Stepney. 3. I think there is a link somewhere between Toby's Line (or castle loch loop) and Peel Godred Branch. Here's why: Fergus goes from the smelter's (peel godred iron works) to the castle loch on toby's line all within the same night. If there were a link between the two lines, that would be a logical line place to hide. 4. I think Misty Valley is the link between Toby's Line and Thomas's Branch Line, but not between the quarry and arlesdale, but more like between Hackenbeck Tunnel area and Arlesburgh. 5. The cement works is probably somehwere north, peel godred seems fitting, because Fergus's driver doesn't know the south of the island. 6. I think the line in front of the lake station was regauged after the mid sodor closed as some sort of siding or branch line, before being torn up for the road. The crossing can exist.😄
Yeah would make sense if Sir Handel and Duke were running the first half of the Skarloey Railway during Season 4. Though as I have the Bluebell Railway as the Norramby line on my map, I have Duke running the NG line from Crovan's Gate to Vicarstown. As for the cement works, I'd say either near Brendam or Kirk Ronan is fine. Perhaps Fergus's current driver in S7 was new. And for Duke's Mid Sodor shed I have somewhere near the shared loop of the Skarloey Railway and Mid Sodor on a bypass line to explain why Skarloey and Rheneas were seen passing it.
12:38 I feel like the difficult bend is such a flawed part of the main line because if thomas was able to crash into a bush when picking up speed imagine what would happen if the express went down here at full speed.
8:22 You missed out small detail here and that is that it does stop at Elsebridge when travelling back towards tidmouth but doesn't stop heading to vicarstown.
I have no idea why Tug never had the elsbridge loop line on his map from the start it would explain why we see engines coming from the back of knapford. Edit: It’s also a bit weird to have knapford facing north because after trains depart knapford and are seen passing through the junction to Thomas’s branchline they are consistently coming from the right
Well this was the first of a few videos chronicling Tug’s quest to map out the TV version of Sodor. As time passed, he acquired new information in the form of studio design documents that led to many changes to this map of his.
I couldn't help but notice that Crosby had a goods yard and was pretty sure I saw a shed there consistenting of 2 berths and a turntable. I also like the season 2 version of knapford yard and season 1 version of knapford sheds, Gordon's hill, and wellsworth station. Also I like to think the big Dipper (the viaduct that diesel 10 fell down from) is the off screen viaduct from Peel godred.
Funny this map didn't have the S2 Hay fields, the S3 Logging Halt & that area where Percy crashed in Percy, James, & the Fruitful Day, The runaway siding, that S3 windmill after Lower Tidmouth, The flood lands, & Daisy's shed
Out of curiosity, have you considered doing a video on your own headcanon map of Sodor that includes all the locations you want to see in your version of the series? I’m sure there would be a lot of overlap between the official map and you’re around but I think it could still be interesting
35:34 i think the the reason why lower suddery is called Lower Suddery is for the same reason why there’s an Upper Brendam in the Model series. The hill. Let me explain: its very clear that there is a hill after Suddery in both The Model series and the Book series so the film crew probably read that and thought: Oh so since Suddery is lower than the next station then it most be called Lower Suddery. And as for Upper Brendam it not at the bottom of the hill it actually at the top of the hill and Edward rolls down into Brendam.
I am absolutely going to use your map to do a side project I have been thinking about. you have gone in such detail that 90% of my work is done! I just need a couple strong detailed maps of the main towns and It would be nice to have that magic railroad entrance with the gold dust bit somewhere near Vicarstown because I need the island accessible but specific on how its accessed to the outside world. my head canon also agrees magic railroad is not canon but I also love the idea of the railroad being accessed by some “supernatural” means. allowing engines built on Sodar the freedom to export but not the option for outside engines to import. something simple like a tiny well hidden siding leads you to the buffers that take you both to main land and to that portal tunnel that lady was stored in
Again, I would suggest seeing if you can get a partnership with nebula, at least for your longer form content about the RWS series real world connections.
10:17 I agree, Gordon’s Hill is better as a set of rather steep curves than as a single very steep slope. It makes it its own thing instead of a blatant copypaste of the Lickey Incline. Also the show version is what I grew up with, so I’m hella biased.
21:13 I headcanon that Animate (machines with faces) locomotives are occasionally reassigned to different parts of the railway for a short time, both to give them something else to do and so they can remain in contact with other Animates that they are friends with. So whenever someone is shown working somewhere besides where they’re supposed to be, I just write it off as them being on temporary reassignment and stop trying to make it fit with everything else. Saves me a lot of headaches.
About Lower Suddery, I like to believe that the reason there isn't a Suddery Station is because there *is* a Suddery, but it's just north of the Lower and doesn't have a station. I only came up with this just now, but I like the idea.
I swear, the Sodor map videos are some of the most rewatchable videos I've seen in 15+ years in this fandom. You grow up watching the show enough times, you love it, so naturally you think about how the island would be laid out, but I don't think anyone ever put it into video form until you did...

If you can upload those season retrospectives it would make me so god damn happy! Glad to see you back man. Big love to you and the channel! 🙏

It is so fascinating seeing you map out the entire geography on Sodor from the tv series.
This is just my inner child coming out now, but here goes:
If i were a multi-billionaire i'd buy a private island ( as closest to size as possible ) and just full on build Sodor for real, all run by rebuilt replicas or preserved classes left of every Steam, Diesel & Electric engine and rolling stock in the show, be it Standard, Narrow & Miniature gauge. 🏝
commit crimes by putting people into the engines
@@ThomasAndRandomRobloxGames don't
I mean if Hitler could motivate an entire country from depression and doubt about themselves, then so can you make the real life Island of Sodor!
I mean you could make the face models and just put AI into animatronic parts inside it.
@@BlindingLightDo not bring Shed 17 into this plz.
I would also put the rest of the island on, and it wouldn’t look much different from this map.
He has made a couple of revisions since the first time this was uploaded, and I'm sure those will be Re-uploaded soon as well
As far as I'm concerned Tug's map IS the canon map for the TVS.
Have I seen this before?
Yes, yes I have.
Am I going to watch it again?
You bet I am 😂
I love the effort you put onto your maps, looking everywhere throughout the series to get everything as accurate as you can
Love this video, got me much more interested in the geography and mapping of the Island of Sodor, this is AWESOME and you’re one of the biggest experts on the matter and I respect you so much for that AND especially for creating your own hybrid maps.

It’s nice to see old fans of him along with the newer fans
33:23 you can tell how old this video is, because the wiki dosen’t call it Ballahoo anymore, now they just call it the village station.
I was worried that he would be taking a break for a while, and I hope everyone gets the message.
This could make a nice TV series AU map, as the original has been out for a while now. You did a fantastic job "deep-diving" into the different sets when this video first came out.
Let's hope you can still retrieve your old channel, man.
Glad to see this video is back! Honestly this is probably my favourite video that you've made!
Ah, I remember when this first came out! Still one of my all-time favorite videos from you. Your interpretations of the TVS Peel Godred Branch and Mid Sodor Railway are my favorite parts of this.
12:10 this shot, and others, is why I love the look of season 7 so much, simple and cozy lighting, it’s just nice to look at
Never thought I’d see this in my notifications again, this is gonna be a bit of a nostalgia trip
The version of this video that was on the original channel was my first Unlucky Tug video. Great to watch it again.
I like the fact in all maps (RWS, TVS; Models, & CGI), Edward's Branchline is the most consistent with some minor difference in all three era's.
Even with All Engines Go Edwards branchline is similar
I absolutely like the effort you put in this video.
I remember watching this whole vid. I treated it like a college exam and payed a lot of attention, when build a sodor ho layout and my own version of it in trainz. I'll use the rws map and this beautiful map

TFC probably knew Thomas had been teasing Gordon, so he sent for him knowing it would humble Thomas.
3:26 real life locations change appearance, especially industrial ones, so it's often no stretch at all.
This is you most rewatchable video imo
Agreed.
You have always done great on these Sodor map videos. While the map in my fan series idea has many differences, this and the other map videos have helped me out with it. Thank you so much Unlucky Tug.

By S7 he has reverted all the engines to as before working all over on the entire railway with Rusty once again assigned as maintenance diesel of the railway
Sir, this is a Mcdonald’s Drive Thru!
There’s also a Tesco shop in Wellsworth.
and a fish n chips shop near elsebridge
Hi Unlucky tug you make amazing videos
Sodor never has consistent geography
12:38 I feel like the difficult bend is such a flawed part of the main line because if thomas was able to crash into a bush when picking up speed imagine what would happen if the express went down here at full speed.
I seriously hope there is a speed restriction before reaching the difficult bend now that I’ve read your comment.
In the episode Gordon runs dry in the c.j.I series Gordon mentions crunck station while he is pulling the express so maybe he stops there
Hey tug, thanks for uploading the videos.
8:22 You missed out small detail here and that is that it does stop at Elsebridge when travelling back towards tidmouth but doesn't stop heading to vicarstown.
Can’t wait for you too reupload your updated map
Thank god its finally back!
Awesome can you upload the other ones the updates there awesome.
As time passed, he acquired new information in the form of studio design documents that led to many changes to this map of his.
when you get to heaven god says "the express does not stop here"
Absolutely Outstanding
I couldn't help but notice that Crosby had a goods yard and was pretty sure I saw a shed there consistenting of 2 berths and a turntable. I also like the season 2 version of knapford yard and season 1 version of knapford sheds, Gordon's hill, and wellsworth station. Also I like to think the big Dipper (the viaduct that diesel 10 fell down from) is the off screen viaduct from Peel godred.
Id love to see you use the tv canon map you made and use this one to fill the rest of that out to do your final definitive tv map
26:47 Yeah I call that Arlesburgh too.
Can you also make a way for us to watch the prior 2020 stuff, and the livestreams?
Always wondered where the station Thomas stops at in the opening credits, is.
Yay the map video
9:56 I have a theory about that. I think it stops there most of the time but skips it during rush-hour
The Enterprise train from Dublin to Belfast does a similar thing with Lisburn.
Some trains in the US do that too
@@DoubleHCreations yeah, some services skip certain stations that depending on the time of day. I think it’s a worldwide thing with railways.
Personally I placed Town Square as the first Suddery. I just hate the idea of it being Tidmouth in the CGI series.
this map is very helpful!
I am absolutely going to use your map to do a side project I have been thinking about. you have gone in such detail that 90% of my work is done! I just need a couple strong detailed maps of the main towns and It would be nice to have that magic railroad entrance with the gold dust bit somewhere near Vicarstown because I need the island accessible but specific on how its accessed to the outside world. my head canon also agrees magic railroad is not canon but I also love the idea of the railroad being accessed by some “supernatural” means. allowing engines built on Sodar the freedom to export but not the option for outside engines to import. something simple like a tiny well hidden siding leads you to the buffers that take you both to main land and to that portal tunnel that lady was stored in
If Sodor was real, I would use this video to plan my day out!
Love all your content. keep it up good sir!
The map is very Consistent with the TV series I think this is the best map set I same as season 1 to 7 map which is very fantastic
Funny how in the TVS the Mid Sodor was shifted east to connect Thomas' Branch & the Skarloey Railway
My guess for why Duck was seen on Bulgie's Bridge is he has to make an occasional stop on Thomas' branch line very rarely
This idea has since been disproven by the release of David Mitton’s map.
Eh, I placed Bulgy's Bridge near Tidmouth Hault and a line connecting Tidmouth Hault to Elsbridge as shown in Percy's Promise.
looking good keep up the good work
I can't believe it the Unlucky Tug!😄 I'm your biggest fan dude can I ask you something?
